Hey everyone!

 

It's that wonderful time of year again! Theme Park Review is proud to announce that we are once again working with Give Kids The World to help raise money for Coasting For Kids 2015! This year's Coasting For Kids event takes place on Sunday, June 7th (Sunday, June 14th at Valleyfair).

 

What is "Coasting For Kids"? It's a fundraiser hosted by Cedar Fair, with the proceeds going to Give Kids The World, a wonderful organization that helps children with life threatening illnesses. In short, it's riding roller coasters for a GREAT cause!

 

Robb & Elissa have asked me to again help coordinate this year's Team TPR effort, and I am more than happy to do so! Team TPR will consist of TPR members raising money while riding roller coasters. But we need riders! And this is where YOU come in!

 

We need as many TPR members as possible who are willing to ride a coaster (or coasters) at a Cedar Fair park for six to eight hours. You'll register your donation page at the links below, and get as many of your fellow TPR members, co-workers, family, friends, Facebook friends, Twitter followers, etc to donate to your page. Top riders who get the most donations will get some cool stuff, too!

 

Team TPR Members will also be able to choose and create one of FOUR custom signature banners with a direct link to your donations page! (See below for instructions)

 

Below are the links to start your donations page for the Cedar Fair park you wish to be a rider at. Simply click the link, go through the registration process, make SURE you affiliate yourself with Team TPR (or, if it doesn't exist yet, we ask you to please create it), and then reply to this thread with a link to your donations page so we can help promote it!

 

There is a tax deductible, $25 registration fee that will fully be donated to Give Kids The World. That fee will also include your event T-Shirt, ERT on one or more roller coasters (TBD) on June 7th, plus food and drinks the day of the event. You do not need to worry about park admission. All participants will be required to pay the $25 registration fee and raise a minimum of $75 in order to participate.

 

Those who have participated in the past will tell you this day is a ton of fun for a great cause, so I recommend that everyone participates!

 

Again, Coasting For Kids 2015 is happening on Sunday, June 7th at a Cedar Fair park near you! Register below to help raise money for Give Kids The World. I've heard too many good things about this event in the past couple years to pass it up again. I'll ride the Racer 'til the wheels fall off to support what GKTW's doing. TPR's all about having fun at amusement parks, and this is our chance to give that experience to families who could really use it.

You should be fine. He usually lists them as "needs to be created" until someone from TPR has offered to be the point person for that park.

By "point person", do you mean team captain, and if so, what are the responsibilities with that?

 

Also, do they have to be a certain age and do they have to have experience with the event?

^ I would say that the "point person" just ends up being someone the day of the event that can be in contact with Robb to text photos from the event. In my experiences, there's not really a "team captain" per se. The main focus of a Team TPR at any given park is to just have a great time, make some new friends with fellow TPR members, and support this wonderful cause to help children in need. The coaster riding, to me, has always just been an added bonus!

 

So I wouldn't worry about having to be a team captain, especially if this is your first time participating in the event.

 

To clear up your earlier question about the first post still showing that teams need to be created: please keep in mind that while I plan to be very active in this thread to keep it moving and build some Team TPR momentum, I will not necessarily be able to update the team statuses, donation tallies, etc. every single day. (I do have work commitments and a new baby at home, after all! ) All I politely ask is to be patient. Some weeks I may only be able to update that first post once or twice. Other weeks, I may be updating it every other day or so. Bottom line is we are keeping up on things, and the updates will happen. In fact, after this initial surge the last couple days, I'm hoping to have things updated later today.

Okay, the first post in the thread has now been updated! It looks like all 11 parks now have a Team TPR created, including ones with no riders yet. I'm not sure if GKTW carried over popular teams from last year and created them, or if maybe Robb did. (Just curious, for those of you that signed up already and joined a Team TPR, did you create it, or was it already available to select?) For those signed up, check the first post and make sure everything looks good where I've listed your individual information (name, TPR screen name, and link to your personal fundraising page). If you see any errors, please let me know!

 

Itineraries for the parks usually take awhile to get finalized, so I wouldn't expect those just yet.

 

As the old saying goes, every journey begins with a single step.....Team TPR is off and running and has already raised $474 for GKTW!

As GCI mentioned, Team TPR was already an option, even for parks that didn't have any TPR members signed up yet. It looks like it was created as a default team in advance. However, since no one is in control of the team pages, there doesn't seem to be a way to edit the team page with any custom pictures or text. Perhaps that's something a team captain would have control over, but I'm not totally sure how GKTW has that all set up.

So, I remember that last year Cedar Fair implemented a new re-ride policy, and I was just wondering how that affected the "marathon" portion of the event. Not that that's the main reason I'm doing this, I'm just curious.
