simon8899 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Anyone knowing who made the Frisbee and TopSpin? Some aspects look like they are designed based on the HUSS design but other parts of the rides look like they are knock-offs...
Taylor Finn Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Thanks for showing us a park not often seen. Pretty decently sized all things considered!
Barge84 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 You should of called up no fun Thad to hang out...he couldn't stop talking about his local park on the Scandi trip. I'll go back when they open a new coaster.

Splash Over, the Top Sin, might also be from Moser.

edgeboy Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I was actually just there for my first time about a month ago. Fortunately for me, Storm Chaser was running. I've been on the original at Knott's before it was removed, and in a strange way, this one is a bit more physically intense due to the smaller circumference. I may be in the minority, but while I wouldn't call The Dragon good, I didn't think it was as bad as most people made out. Personally, I thought the worst part of the ride in terms of roughness were the bunny hills right out of the station. Compared to that, the loops and helix were not as bad. Maybe it's because my expectations were so low for the ride, I was "pleasantly" surprised it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But I can't deny that it sounds awful, though. I do have to agree it was a very pretty park, and a good mix of themeing, flat rides, and gardens/ponds/scenery. The employees are very friendly, and being Iowa, many of them are retired seniors. In fact, I'm pretty sure the entire staff on Storm Chaser when I rode were over 60, if not more. I personally wasn't as impressed by the food, but there are a lot of fast food options just outside the park (and you are allowed to leave and return as long as you show your receipt), as well as a Casino/Racetrack next door that offers a buffet. Didn't get to try it, but it's a good option to know about. Oh, and the best/most unusual thing about that park, IMO... they hold Bingo games right on their Main Street. Bingo rules!
diggerg56 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Great report. I live about 90 minutes away from Adventureland but only go once every couple years or so. I really do enjoy Tornado but I'm more of a thrill seeker when it comes to other things so I tend to visit bigger parks. Adventureland does have a certain charm to it even though as mentioned it is kind of stuck in the 80's in some ways. Sorry, can't do a lot about the boring drive. It certainly can be boring. Like any state, there is some nice scenery if you know where to look.
thrillrider Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 It's kind of weird, but some parts of the park look like a major amusement park and some parts look like a mom and pop operation. The area by the tornado looks almost like a six flags park.
AdventureJack Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 This was a great report! Glad you liked my home park. Yeah if only they took out Dragon and put in a new steel coaster. Hmmm maybe in a few years.
thrillrider Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 I don't think that they need to take it out, but maybe they should think about getting a new train without otsr's. It could possibly be a good ride.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Why not add a new coaster? Maybe a Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster or Mauer Sohne Spinning Coaster?
thrillrider Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 Why not add a new coaster? Maybe a Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster or Mauer Sohne Spinning Coaster? This would be perfect for this park.Even a boomerang coaster would fit into this park (as much as I dislike them) very well.
AdventureJack Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 A small compact coaster would be great for the park. Sources are saying that the log ride is out next year so that would be a great place for one. Also, here are some stunning photos of Storm Chaser from Alands Facebook page. The first one is so green.
Geauga Dog Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Wow, that first pic is awesome! I just noticed it doesn't have the UFO top like the others do.
thrillrider Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 Wow, that first pic is awesome! I just noticed it doesn't have the UFO top like the others do. I noticed the same thing. I hope the log flume stays. That type of ride is getting rare.

fraroc Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Dragon looks like it would definitely benefit from getting some new trains with lap bars. I think it suffers from the same problem that Revolution at SFMM has, unnecessary OSTRs.

Shavethewhales Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 So we've got a discussion going on in this thread and this one http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67166&p=1561976&hilit=adventureland#p1561976 Can we get a dedicated Adventureland thread?
AdventureJack Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Can we get a dedicated Adventureland thread? I wish!
AdventureJack Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Can we get a dedicated Adventureland thread? LOOK! We finally got one! www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=54282&hilit=adventureland+iowa
AdventureJack Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Nothing major this year. They did install two new "Star Wars Battle Pods" into their main arcade and I heard those are pretty fun. You can head on over to the discussion thread to check out a picture from their Facebook page and watch a video. Also there are a couple pages and reports talking about them adding a "family coaster project" next year in the place of the log ride.
thrillrider Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 I hope they keep the log flume...it was a blast.
wildcatroc Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I hope they keep the log flume...it was a blast. I agree. Their log ride is fantastic and it would be a great loss for the park.
