Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 http://www.nbc4.tv/news/5029990/detail.html I can see the flames from my work. SWEET!!! Gregg "If it's still going on tomorrow I will bring the camera for some Fire Photo:TR" C.
BelizeIt Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Well the winds has been blowing strong all day! So the fires can spread rather quickly! If you own a home in a High Risk area, then you had better cut back all the brush near your home, or it's to late for you! Insurance or not, Nothing is worth having your home catch fire! So many of these Home Owners think it won't happen to them, until it does!
DATman Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 It really isnt sweet. All my friends live in that area, and i'm worried sick right now. I know that some of my brother's friends had to evacuate, and some of them are getting ready to, JIC. Also, my school is right there, and I am worried about it too.
ebl Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I took about a five-mile walk earlier. From Camarillo, you can see the smoke and the glow of the fire. It's going to be interesting to see where this fire goes. Hopefully, out, but not if the winds keep up. Eric
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 This morning the fire is over 7,000 acres and it is heading right to my work. The streets are lined with fire engines and the fire is starting to come over the hills towards where I am. Should be an interesting day. We are waiting to hear if we are going to be evacuated or what. Kristi "not liking this fire stuff when it is so close" C.
Wes Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 My parents had to evacuate at 2AM last night. So did my girlfriend and her family. This is very very freaky.
coasters 4 me Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^That sucks. These seem to be happening all the time.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 Yeah, I still can't believe how quickly this thing spread. It's basically from the 118 to the North, the 101 to the south, The Valley to the East and almost to the 23 to the West. Gregg "It would be a shame if I couldn't get to work today ... " C.
Token Yankee Guy Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 What's with California always getting forest fires.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 We are the next area to be evacuated. My boss and I walked outside and the smoke is all billowing and it covers a big area. Hopefully they let us go soon so that we are not trapped. Kristi "would rather be at home watching it on tv that at work watching it out the window" C.
Teddymonster Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 What's with California always getting forest fires. Smokey the bear doesn't live there...DUH!
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 Well, the main thing is we had a lot of rain last year and the brush is all overgrown. It was really hot and windy yesterday and that is the perfect condition for fires. It is bad out there right now and they keep saying no containment is in sight. Kristi "ready to leave" C.
phazan Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 im going sfmm and disneyland this weekend. the fire wont effect my trip will it?
Wes Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^ Disneyland, no. SFMM, maybe. Traffic might be a bitch if the fires aren't contained soon.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 We were finally evacuated from work. When I left I could tell the flames were very close to coming over the hill by my work. The smoke was thick driving and ashes are blowing at our house. Unfortunatly Gregg has to "attempt" to go into work. I have to wait til tonight to find out if I go in tomorrow since I go in so early. Kristi "glad to be home" C.
Hattuchili Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^ oh, that sounds very bad. I hope you are all still okay? I am glad, we never had a big fire like that, here before! --Sören
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 Out in Moreno Valley there was a fire that burned 3 chicken coops ... about 90,000 chickens. Anybody up for a bbq??? Gregg "Trying to keep it light" C.
Nrthwnd Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Kristi and Gregg, your family, and everybody in that area take care of yourself. Up here in BC, we know all too well about forest and brush fires, etc. Our thoughts and good wishes are with you all, in the coming days. bill/Nrthwnd (Addendum-dum - Wish we could send you the TON of rainwater that's fallen and {currently} falling on us, here in Vancouver. Darned mom nature. )
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 ^Thanks! Thankfully we live north of it and it would have to burn for awhile to get to us. Gregg just left for work, camera in hand. I am sure he will get some good pictures while he sits on the freeway. I am waiting to hear if I have to go to work in the morning. The winds have picked up and it has burned over 17, 000 acres now. It is REALLY bad. The hills are so dry. Kristi "never a dull moment in Southern California!" C.
DATman Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Well, a lot of my friends are going to be evacuated, i think, and the fire is close to my house too. Also, we could see the flames from our school today
Wes Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 At this point, my parents are back at their home. They were setting some back fires near our neighborhood, but everything seems under control in their neck of the woods. My girlfriend has been out "fire hunting" (her term, not mine), and just basically driving around, trying to see where the smoke is coming from. She doesn't think she'll be able to get back to her home tonight, but things seem to be improving. It doesn't look like anything in Oak Park is gonna get burned.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 ^glad everyone with you is safe. The Las Virgenes Canyon is now a flame and close to houses. SHould be interesting to see what happens tonight.
ebl Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 This is going to be one nasty fire season. We had so much rain earlier in the year, so an awful lot of vegetation was able to grow---and now dry out. Eric
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 ^You are 100% right Eric. All the hills are SO dry. Easy fuel for fires.
SharkTums Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I'm kind of bummed we might have to cancel our huge Special Olympics Cycling Tournament on Saturday. We have smoke and ash that's made its way up to Santa Clarita...we're waiting till noon tomorrow to make the call.
