Kingsdominion804 Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 (edited) Have any of you guys/girls been to pkd (Paramount's Kings Dominion)? If so what did you like about it and what were your dislikes about it? PKD is my homepark so the thing I like most about it is Volcano, The Blast Coaster (inveted intamin launch coaster) & Tomb Raider: Firefall (floorless/suspended topspin). What I dislike most about it is the parks atmousphere... They are really lacking... BTW pkd is getting Italian Job: Stunt Coaster in 2006 witch IMO will really suck! Edited September 25, 2005 by Kingsdominion804
coasterfreak101 Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Ok, here's my thoughts on PKD: 1)I've only been on Scooby Coaster, Taxi Jam, Avalanche, and RY (Forwards). Out of them, I go with RY cause I like the race feature and all! 2)IJ next year shouldn't suck, considering that you CAN'T SAY THAT before you've seen the layout! This one is going to be totally original, so "Don't judge a book by it's cover" 3)Overall, I like PKD, they have 75 developed acres and over 200 total developed/undeveloped for anyone wondering how big it is!
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 ^Well yeah I forgot to add that I still haven't rode it yet so I can't really say that just yet... but from what I have heard it was kindof a let down to some pki fans so thats the only reason im saying that... For Tomb Raider, it's an awsome ride but the themeing was rushed from what it looks like... The ride effects are what makes Tomb Raider an exciting ride and let me tell you... without them, the ride would be noting...
SonOfBeastSucks Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Italian Job doesn't suck, you should be glad they are getting another coaster.
cfc Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I finally bought a PKD season pass for next year (to go with my BGW pass) for two reasons: 1) I'm taking some friends to Howl-o-Scream and Fearfest in October (so it made some twisted financial sense), and 2) PKD is going to get the Italian Job coaster (looks like fun to me). I think the park is steadily improving. That being said . . . 1) Anaconda--"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition" (especially to design a rollercoaster). 2) Avalanche--In the Congo section? I had no idea that snow sliding down a mountainside was a serious problem in equatorial Africa. (But it is a fun ride.) Lots of pine trees in the Congo, too, it seems. 3) Themeing--Yep, they have a ways to go here. 4) Hurler--One word: "ouch." (I do like the Grizzly and Rebel Yell, though.)
ShannonSomerville Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I always start the season off with a trip to PKD. Last weekend,I went there to get my Season Pass. I live only about a hour and a half from there. Also,I love Drop Zone. Tomb Raider:Firefall is pretty decent, too. Volcano is still one of my favorites. Hopefully,I plan to go to FearFest sometime in October. Take care SES :o
SharkTums Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I really like Kings Dominion! I do feel bad for them though as they've been getting all of these 'prototype low capacity coasters'...hopefully Italian Job will improve on that...here's what I feel: - Hypersonic...ok haven't ridden it since 2002 but I always really liked it! - Volcano...LOVE IT - Stand up...amusing - Evil Arrow Ride...die - Rebel Yell...really good - Hurler...eh - Grizzly...eh - Avalanche...love it! - Mouse...eh - Kiddies...eh - Outer Limits...AWESOME!
alpengeist04 Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I would say I like PKD, but I can't say I love it. My favorite rides being Tomb Raider, Drop Zone, Volcano, Avalanche, and Hypersonic(because of the launch). Though I'm not crazy about the Italian Job coaster, I will be going next spring to ride it.
momo1tx Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 This being one of my local parks, I have one question: Why does everyone hate Anaconda? It's a pretty good ride, and I don't find it rough at all, except a little on the helixes. I actually like it more than most rides there.

I will say one nice thing about Anaconda--that first drop under the lake is pretty cool. I just wish it wasn't attached to some twisted mass of metal that leaves me with a throbbing headache and cauliflower ears. To each his or her own.
Teddymonster Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 - Hypersonic...ok haven't ridden it since 2002 but I always really liked it! - Volcano...LOVE IT - Stand up...amusing - Evil Arrow Ride...die - Rebel Yell...really good - Hurler...eh - Grizzly...eh - Avalanche...love it! - Mouse...eh - Kiddies...eh - Outer Limits...AWESOME! Okay, I am SOOOOO glad that at least one person doesn't loathe Volcano. I've always liked Volcano. It is one of my favorite rides at PKD. Anaconda is definitely NOT an easy ride to like, being as it kills your neck and temples, but Shockwave is the worst ride in the park, IMO. I hate that damn thing. Like I told people before, I was contemplating sneaking in to PKD at night and dismantling it with a monkey wrench and some WD-40. Oh, BTW...Drop Zone kicks major ass, and that is seriously one of the reasons I would go to this park if you've never been before. P.S. Ever since Outer Limits (and other Premier launched coasters) got the lapbars installed...sheer greatness. Too bad Paramount dropped the Outer Limits logo, and kept Flight of Fear.
MagnumForce Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Volcano- Love it Hypercrappic- terrible Bobseld-Love it Flight of Fear-Love it Shockwave-The Japanese got revenge for the A bomb Anaconda-It's a Arrow Mega Looper, whats not to loathe? Ricochet- Really really good mouse, but still a a Mouse Grizzley- Fun ride, love the lateral air in the Tunnel Hurler-not nearly as good as Carowinds or Thunder Run at SFKK Rebel Yell- Thunder Road at Carowinds and Racer at PKI are better Drop Zone- best Intamin Giant Drop out there. All in all it's a nice park, better then PKI not as good an atmosphere at Carowinds and it's still a Paramount park which at it's current point in time is worse then Cedar Fair (mind you my local Six Flas is the best seasonal park in the country.)
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Volcano - Awsome ride, forceful launches and the themeing... Anaconda - awsome ride but one rough part... Flight of Fear - awsome ride but the lines are too long... maybe 2hours at the most this year... Also, what is it doing in the Congo? Tomb Raider: Firefall - the best ride in the park well... at least in my opinion or I can say one of the best rides in the park... you can feel the fire, get splahed on with water, and 8 flips on the ride and one part where its trying to warn you about burning you into the fire... it's awsome but the themeing was rushed... Shcokwave - awsome ride from the first drop, through the loop and up the second hill... when you get into the helix the ride is going downhill because of the roughness... Rebel Yell - awsome racer but if you sit in the back car on the backwards side it jiggles your stomache and it hurts! Hurler - meh, it's ok but great airtime woodie! Grizzly - Intense in the backcar from beggining to end! The first drop in the back car is super insane! It's my 2nd favorite coaster in the world and my #1 favorite woodie in the world... Drop Zone - ahhh! Intense! Loved it ALOT! HyperSonic XLC - super intense! loved it but IDK if im riding it again. Taxi Jam - geat kiddie coaster... Scooby-Doo's Ghoster Coaster - more intense than you expected it to be... IMO its alot more intense then Anaconda... Berserker - plain intense! Loved it! Avalanche - the best bobsled coaster in the world! Or at least the US, anyone agree? Ricochet - awsome wild mouse! Italian Job: Stunt Coaster - meh, never rode it cause its not built yet... I'll tell ya how it is when I ride it next Spring 2006. PKD RULES RULES RULES!... NO, THEY SUCK! Here ar some pictures... Grizzly Station - It was usualy a walk on but this year with the new track, it's better than ever! Theres Volcano, Well, from the side... Flight of Fear sign - again, great ride!!!! Anaconda! It's a good ride. Grizzly Station where the train leaves Ahhh, Tomb Raider At night! :o Tomb Raider: Firefall w/ fire effects. It's alot of fun! Oh... look... fire! So far, you can tell I love this ride... Oh, look flipping upsidedown slowly... It lifts up slowly at the begginging of the ride and stops diagonally at the top... Swinging Manuvers and steam OMG Weeee! Rebe Yell! Drop Zone is scary fun!!! Tomb Raider upsidedown! Tomb Raider Flipping action at the end with a final 5 flip! Seeing Knott's Riptide makes me sad because the seats arnt filled up... Tomb Raider: Firefall hardly has an empty seat... Tomb Raider: Firefall, Water Cannons, Fire and steam! Thats all... Comment if you wish.[/img]
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Go to http://www.parkfeedback.com/blog to visit the new Paramount Parks blog. There, you can find some of the latest news... :o
M_Force_4_ever Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I visited PKD this season and I was quite impressed, especially Hypersonic, which is probablly the best launched coaster I've been on (not saying much) I like TR:FF alot, and it fit the area very well. V:TBC was a pretty good ride, all their woodies sucked (except grizzly was decent) yeah
RCTfan Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 My home park is also Kings Dominion, when I'm actually at home. Otherwise at college is BGW. The rides at Kings Dominion aren't that bad. Sure, some of them are lacking in maintance, but they still aren't horrible. The Grizzly is easily the best coaster in the park, in my opinion. The setting is perfect. There is plenty of airtime no matter which of the extremes of the train you sit. I don't ride in the middle, so I don't know about there. Flight of Fear is the next best, having the most fulfilling layout. The launch is smooth and without the head restraints, the ride is that much more enjoyable. Volcano is an enjoyable ride. Sometimes, I don't feel as if its worth it with such a wait time. But, if its short, I'm all up for a quick ride! I don't think Anaconda is that bad. I can ride is many times without problem. The best part is the hanging corkscrews. Both Rebel Yell and Hurler could use some maintance. I wouldn't ride RY on a wheel seat ever. The back seat of forwards is just brutal. The back seat on backwards is delightful though. Backwards is definitely the way to go on this ride! Hurler has airtime on the first few hills, but other than that, you just sit there and wait for it to end. Shockwave is pretty bad. Its painful on the ribs and head, especially if you don't know how to prevent. The first way would be to actually place your head in the blue arch headrest. Yeah, it actually helps. Or, if you don't feel comfortable with that, stick your chest out. That'll prevent you bobbling around as well. If the train was sitdown with lapbars, you'd get some nice airtime! Drop Zone and Firefall are most welcome additions. Both rides make me giggle like a school girl. Firefall is just a blast, spinning head over heels. I don't want to judge Italian Job before I ride it. I hear its fun but not worth a long wait. Not is it extreme, so probably not too re-ridable, but it'll be a nice addition for the park. I don't know if I'm going to get a season pass next year. I don't think I'll be home for the summer, so probably not. I'd rather get one at Busch Gardens since my college is here. Oh wait, I get one after working Howl-O-Screams, sweet deal Ally McBeal!
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Tomb Raider: Firefall has ball crushing effects on the rear side of the gondola. Anaconda's corckscrews are the best part IMO too because they make you feel like your going to fall out! It's insane! Pkd Sucks! Nah they don't suck but they suck!
SonOfBeastSucks Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^ Thtas how PKI Vortex is. But I'm sure the feeling is even better over the water!
momo1tx Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Personally I don't like Grizzly too much. It's a little too rough for my taste, and doesn't give the airtime mentioned, in my opinion. I had heard about how the retracking helped, but it was still too rough for me.
DATman Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^^^You go to william and mary? My mom went there, and she has a reunion there in October-I get to finally go back to BGW!
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 I have a pkdsite up right now but it's still in the works... Don't worry, I'll make it so it sucks like pkd. Video's photos, and descriptions will be up soon... :o link below! 8) http://pkdsource.thrillnetwork.net There is not alot of stuff going on right now but I will TRY to update it tonight if possible... Oh yeah, did I mention my fourm is dead?
Teddymonster Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 ^^^You go to william and mary? My mom went there, and she has a reunion there in October-I get to finally go back to BGW! Either that or Chistopher Newport is my guess.
coasterguy618 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I haven't been to PKD, but i'm planning a trip to Virgina next year. I really want to ride Volcano and Flight of Fear. BTW. how do you like volcano the blast coaster?
RCTfan Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I definitely go to Christopher Newport University, not William and Mary. Either way, still visit me as Jack of the Lanterns at Busch! Volcano is a very enjoyable ride, especially in the front and back. Front you can, which is lovely. The back is great for coming out of the top of the Volcano. I prefer the back.
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 I haven't been to PKD, but i'm planning a trip to Virgina next year. I really want to ride Volcano and Flight of Fear. BTW. how do you like volcano the blast coaster? If your talking to me, heres why... 1) The great layout of the ride (could have been longer) 2) The Forceful launches. 3) 2 Launches (1st launch around 55mph and the second launch at 72mph! 4) Inverted Launch Coaster! 5) Themed 6) The sweet inversions! 7) The drop back into the mountain ties it all together as a great ride! By the way... I have a new On-Ride video of Drop Zone @ PKD! You can find the link below! http://pkdsource.thrillnetwork.net/videodownloads.html <------ VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO! ^DON'T SKIP THIS POST! ^
