DenDen Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Tonight, I hung out at the coffee shop, and got my first mosquito bite when the sun started setting. I exclaim to my friends "Damn, here come the bugs, I gotta sit inside for an hour until they go away, I don't have my spray with me." (Mosquitoes love me, and they're a huge problem here in Florida!) One of my friends says "Wait, I got just the thing." He goes into the car, and gives me a Bounce dryer sheet and tells me to rub it on my skin. Skeeterz only bit me on my ankles and arms, so i rubbed the sheet on my skin, and low and behold, not one more bite the entire evening! It was amazing! Bounce dryer sheets are the best mosquito repellent EVER!
BiCoastal Kid Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 OMG, yes, thank you so much! I'm one state up and it isn't fun here either. >.
AllisonY2K Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I don't really have a problem with mosquitos. but I will keep that in mind b/c it's a neat idea!
BiCoastal Kid Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 ^Come visit us in the south, you will greatly appreciate this little tidbit of information.
YoshiFan Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Interesting, I hope it works with green head flies too. I spent most of my summer at the Jersey Shore and I got bitten by them almost every day I was outside for a long period of time. It got to the point where you couldn't even sit out on the beach because you were getting bitten so much.
SharkTums Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Very cool! I'm one of those people that attracts all kinds of insects! We did a ATV tour of the jungle in Belize and out of the 3 of us, I was the only one who was bit, and I was bit by 3 different types of insects!!!! (this was with Deep Woods Off sprayed all over my body as well!) I look forward to trying this trick! Thanks!
DenDen Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 (this was with Deep Woods Off sprayed all over my body as well!) Hint: If you must use deepwoods (after tonight, I won't be...) use the green spray pump, NOT the aerosol can or orange pump! The can only has 14% deet, where the green pump has 25%, and the recommended is 24%!
Jose Eber Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I have cousins that live in mosquito infested areas...I will ask them to do that. Sounds like a great idea! They fog here weekly throughout town (Disney Magic/Chemicals)
MrsPhishy Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 This really works!! I learned this trick when I went to an outdoor wedding and saw dryer sheets tied to the backs of people's chairs. It seemed a little weird but it totally works!
FishyFish Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 And if it doesn't work, at least you'll be soft and static-free.
KrakenKing Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Hehe, yeah, I've done this before too. But I used "Country Air" sheets and smelled like it for about 3 days. I could've not showered and still would've smelled clean.
Nrthwnd Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 And who knew that laundry dryer sheets and insect repellent could be so easily combined???
BelizeIt Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I read in a newspaper that if you leave town for a couple of days, and you own a cat, that you should put a bounce dryer sheet under the cats food bowl. Apparently, Ants won't walk over the dryer sheet to get to the food. (I've haven't tried this myself, but that's what the article stated)
Teddymonster Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Does this method work AFTER the fact?
AllisonY2K Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 no but I hear benadryl (cream) works well for post-bug-bite itchiness. (seeing that it's an anti-itch cream that would make sense)
DenDen Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 Benadryl doesn't work for everyone. (including me.) I just use store brand hydrocortisone cream. The trick is to rub the cream until it is totally absorbed by the skin. (it's also an excuse to kinda scratch without using your nails. LOL)
