Schrecken Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 No. If there was a park I intended to visit, I would plan my visit so that it wouldn't be too close in time to the opening of a new coaster (especially one that is highly anticipated). I would plan on going towards the end of the season, after the summer break (when kids are out of school), so that the chances of there being really long lines for a particular ride would be far less. I know that the coaster will be there are least for a couple of years (as most coasters have a life span of at least several years or decades), so I could even go on the 2nd year after the coaster opened. I do the same thing for movies I want to see in the theater - I wait at least a couple of weeks or more to avoid big crowds and possible long lines.
coasterbill Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Okay, so I've now waited 5 hours for a ride and decided to comment and explain myself. The ride was Safari Off Road Adventure at GADV on it's opening weekend. If I had known the wait would be 5 hours I would have never done it, but looking at the length of the line I never expected it to take more than two... I really overestimated the capacity of the ride. The problem is that after 2 hours, you'll end up waiting 3 more because you don't want to have wasted 2 hours. We kept thinking "well we've waited this long..." and ended up waiting the full 5 hours. So I think a lot of people WOULD wait 5 hours for a ride but wouldn't get in line expecting it to be a 5 hour wait. The problem is that after an hour or two you're committed. Very few people actually left that line.
gisco Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Probably not. I would just make plans to visit the park some other time.
Xcoaster Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'd only wait 5 hours if it was for something especially impressive that I hadn't done before, it was out of the way, and I knew I wouldn't have another chance to ride for a very long time. For example, if I went to Ferrari World and Formula Rossa had a 5 hour line and my flight back was the following morning, I'd wait for it. Plus, I figure at that point I've already invested a lot of time and money in getting there, so what's five more hours in getting it to actually happen. I'd probably do the same for T-Express, Eagles Fortress (if it magically reopened), Balder, and maybe a few others. Now, I don't think I've ever actually waited that long for anything. I know I've waited 2 or 3 hours several times (mostly at Fuji-Q and SFMM), but I don't recall ever going above that (unless if you were to include travel time and such).
BigBomer Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I waited 6 for Master Blaster once. It was opening day and I got drug in line and once we had been there for a few hours we wanted to make our wait worthwhile, so we stuck it out. I also waited 4 hours for Radiator Springs Racers.
willh51 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I waited 3 hours for Deja Vu at Six Flags over Georgia. Worth it at the time. The vertical tower scared the hell out of me. I was told the wait for Kingda Ka was 5 hours on my first visit. It was 90 minutes. Crisis averted. For a ride to have a 5 hour wait it must 1) have terrible capacity; 2) breakdown constantly; or 3) be at an insanely big park like Disney or Great Adventure.
rcjp Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Having heard how good El Toro is and having been to SFGAd twice and not being able to ride it on both occasions (the first one I didn't have time as the park was awfully crowded and on the second one it was closed), right now, I would do anything to ride the damn coaster. Oh, and going to SFGAd is not exactly something I can do every day as I have to cross the Atlantic ocean to go there.
David H Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 What's I'd really actually like to know is if there is anything that Robb or Elissa would wait 5 hours for! If they had to.
cmullin Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I would wait 5 hours for a ride on I305 or MF front row. But that would be painful.
TetsuneSonic Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Yes! 5.5hrs for a Chinese Knock Off! Due to ULTRA LOW Capacity
LawlessBagel Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Well with the ability to pay to skip the lines these days I'd say I wouldn't wait more than 2 hours for anything. I only waited once over an hour this year. It was volcano at KD. I'm not going to pay to skip the lines at any park within 5 hours driving distance. Beside that day at KD the only real line was volcano at about 90 minutes at its peak.
Jackdude101 Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The Jessica Rabbit Experience at Disney World.
bill_s Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Maybe when they come out with a 5 hour long coaster.
