kcsteve
On June 5, 2011, a day that started out dreary, Jojo19799 and I met up at Indiana Beach, which is situated on the lovely Lake Shafer in Monticello, Indiana. Fortunately, the clouds cleared and the sun came out, so all was not lost. It turned out to be an awesome day, and an even better night (for me, anyway). We walked around. We talked, We wondered about the older guy in the too-short muscle shirt from which his belly protruded. We wondered about the pregnant lady in the bikini. I wondered about the shirtless guy who could have won the man-boob competition hands down at Texas Giant Bash. But mostly we took pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Our goal was to create the worst trip report in the history of trip reports. So, let's begin, shall we? This will be quite heavy on the pictures. Fortunately, when we arrived, the park was open, otherwise this would have been a boring trip report Oh, carp! They're here! We found a map to guide us on our journey We visited Elaine's Awesome Gift Shop, but sadly, Elaine wasn't working that day Elaine's had some awesome gifts, like this crab fan, which I am imitating Elaine's also had this awesome wall of, uh, signs There was Rainbow's End There was Quackers There was Boardwalk Shops with gifts from here & there There was the Summer Shop We learned you shouldn't try on hats if you have colored spray in your hair We played (Keep Feeling) Fascination, a game with a ball and a bunch of holes, and I won twice, and that song kept going through my head We didn't play 21, even though it's a nationally franchised game of skill, not to be confused with Blackjack We discovered that it's always time for popcorn, something the carp readily agreed with We located the first aid station in case there were any accidents And, should nature call, we learned where men could relieve themselves And where the ladies could as well We located the bath house Apparently the caramel apples came in the male and female variety I would have fixed the sign if I had a Sharpie, but, alas, they will be stuck speaking Espanol We enjoyed the Elephant Ears, though they were of the Asian variety vs. the African variety that can be found at Cedar Point There were many different items you could buy if you were on a high-calorie diet We were amused that in addition to Cheese Fries and Nacho Supreme, regular fries and nachos were also available, though apparently not as important We discussed changing the Breadstix to Breadstyx, but we never figured out what a Walking Taco was Alcoholics downstairs, Alcoholics Anonymous upstairs We learned that Indiana's largest suspension bridge is in fact at Indiana Beach I got up on stage and played bass to some 12-bar blues and sang the chorus to "Closing Time" on the karaoke, the later of which is most definitely not normal behavior for me. The bar was mostly empty, with maybe a half dozen people plus a few staff members. It was definitely the highlight of my trip, which included HoliWood Nights and Kings Island the days before. JoAnna allegedly has my texts from that night. I imagine she'll share them with you all. And remember, I didn't set out to make this an awesome trip report. If you want to see all of the pics from the trip, they're available on Flickr. This isn't Carowinds, unfortunately We apparently traveled back in time to the '90s, as beepers were forbidden We learned there were some places we couldn't go Steppenwolf was not available for comment This sign was a mystery as it didn't appear to belong or refer to anything in the vicinity Here we see the problem American's have that must drive the Brits and Aussies nuts Your photo is being taken! And apparently it's exciting! Alcohol was readily available The Roof Garden Lounge didn't see me coming And they most definitely didn't refuse to serve me drinks Edited June 23, 2011 by kcsteve
kcsteve
Okay, this looked fine when I previewed it, so I don't know what's wrong. If any mods know what the heck is wrong with this, please fix or let me know. When I preview the post, it looks correct, but when it gets posted, it's all messed up. I guess that helps with the worst trip report aspect. UPDATE: Apparently there's a limit to the number of inline attachments you can have. I've deleted some and it's showing up fine now. I'm done with it.
Jojo19799
Wow. This really is the worst report ever. It was a fun day. I was impressed with the park actually. I didn't have high expectations. We need to go back there sometime soon.
Moose
All your pictures are in focus, centered, and the captions make sense. False advertising on worst report ever.
BeemerBoy
Our goal was to create the worst trip report in the history of trip reports. You failed. I'm just hoping somehow there's a Part 2.
SuperShawn
This is more the trip report on the endless amount of signs Indiana beach apparently has. Good report Steve! I really wanna get to this park one day, and find that bar you enjoyed so much too!
jynx242
When we first went on the TPR tour in 2007, the band Ezra was playing in the bar. Unfortunately, there was a better band than them . Thanks for the report Steve - sounds like a great time. David

Something tells me that there is no part 2. This is more the trip report on the endless amount of signs Indiana beach apparently has. Good report Steve! I really wanna get to this park one day, and find that bar you enjoyed so much too! Shawn - you and Stephen need to get to the midwest. It will be a lot of fun, and maybe just maybe I can get some pictures and video of Steve at the bar he enjoyed so much! BTW: We need nicknames for the two Steve's. shpm5150
Shawn and I will make it out one of these days. And we demand to see part two at the bar!!! It need's to be posted ASAP!
Jojo19799
^I was NOT at the bar. I was receiving text messages on my 3 hour drive home from someone who WAS at the bar. You know that if I was there, pictures would have been taken! Or maybe a video or two.... I did take some picutres. I'll have to go through them tonight. I took a picutre of a chalice that I think Steve C. would be proud of.
adavis
Very fun trip report, thanks. I have a quick question about Indiana Beach, and I was hoping someone could answer it for me, assuming no one minds a quick thread hijack. I look like a weirdo. I'm covered in tattoos and have huge holes in my lip and ears. I'm used to GP questions occasionally being stupid or ill timed, and only rarely rude. But Indiana Beach kind of freaks me out. I'm not sure why exactly, I'm just nervy. My worst experiences appearance wise were in Pennsylvania, and I was never nervy of a butt kicking by any means, but it was still terrible. Should I be freaked out about going to Indiana Beach?
kcsteve
Okay, maybe worst trip report ever wasn't quite accurate. Unfortunately I bumped into a limit of phpBB when creating it, so some things are a bit whacked. The park is unique, that's for sure. I didn't know what to expect. If you're the type that can have fun anywhere, you should be able to have fun there.

IB shouldn't freak you out. On our trip to the park, there was a pregnant lady wearing sweats and a bikini top AND to top it all off, the guy wearing a half shirt (which was made of mesh mind you) who had a HUGE beer belly. Plus there were the normal ones there, minus one or two. But still, the park is an awesome place to people watch, and the rides are great. I am hoping to get back there before the end of the season. tedten
This sign was a mystery as it didn't appear to belong or refer to anything in the vicinity I'm not positive on this one, but was it on LoCoSuMo? I think it might be a left over sign from when LoCoSuMo was a dark ride. Anyone know?
robbalvey
Okay, maybe worst trip report ever wasn't quite accurate. Unfortunately I bumped into a limit of phpBB when creating it, so some things are a bit whacked. Whether you intended to do it or not, a report featuring the various signs of the park I thought was kind of a neat idea! Kind of shows some of the charm the park has through the signage they have chosen to create.
Jojo19799
^And for a tiny park, they sure did have a lot of signs! Seriously Steve, if you have more pictures please post them. It really was a great day and we need to go back! I'm sure we missed some signs!!
milst1
I also loved the signage at Indiana Beach! Nice report! Here's one that I took.

shivtim
I'm not positive on this one, but was it on Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain? I think it might be a left over sign from when Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain was a dark ride. Anyone know? Yep, that's exactly what it is. The Superstition Mountain dark ride had an outdoor section where it picked up a bit of speed and took a turn. The sign was to warn people!

cfc
I have a photo from last year of some guy in a shirt with a slogan that violates TPR's "PG-13" standard. You sure see all sorts of strange critters at Indiana Beach (and that's just the guests).
orangecats2
Nice TR! It was great to see the signs of IB. I was just there June 12 - 14. We stayed right there at the Beach House Inn. We loved it and had a great time. It was a very interesting park and I would think anyone could go there and be fine. It's a very diverse culture. I loved the Skyroom Restaurant. We did not get to any of the bars because we took a 10 and 12 year old so really couldn't. The ten year old actually lost his glasses on the Hurricane. I'd love to go back this summer since we bought season passes because we were there for two nights. Unfortunately it's not going to happen cause we're saving money up for WDW next year. RoCo
Finally got around to checking out this PTR, and yes, MAJOR FAIL at your fail attempt. This is very cool, and it really did give me a flavor of this park that I hadn't gotten before: much more "old-school ocean boardwalk" than I had thought. (Fail on my part since it is called "Indiana Beach.") Makes me want to visit this place more than ever.
