coasterguy618 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 It is rumored that there will be a new B&M for Hershey in the 2006, or 2007 seasons. I highly doubt that it will be a B&M, i dont even think it will be a coaster. Anyway here are the markings http://www.hersheyparkonline.com/template.php?page=822051&pgname=Photo%20Update%208/22/05
SLUSHIE Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Those seem way to spread out to be any kind of ride. They are definatly for something else.
CoasterEricHP Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I was up at Hershey a few nights ago and I didn't see anything of significance. Definately not on the scale of a new coaster anyways. The markings I saw were all over the place and usually on top of some kind of gas/electric/water marker. So they are probably just rerouting some kind of line of some sort. That could mean several things.. they could be getting ready for some sort of 2007 expansion, or lord knows what else. Storm Runner was completely marked out in July the year before it opened. I took a lot of the pictures that were on Screamscape of the markings, and they were definately a lot closer and made more sense than the entire backhalf of the park. You never know though. Maybe it really is for a monorail expansion?? The downtown construction pics are for Hershey's new Administration building. Looks really nice! My guess would be a new flat or two for '06. HOPEFULLY something along the lines of MAXAIR/Delirium. There's more than enough space in Midway America for that. There's also the rumor about the Rodeo going where Chaos is and that being removed. Then something larger would be where the Rodeo currently is... like a drop tower or topple tower. Who knows! However, I saw on the news a few nights ago that a family is building an indoor waterpark and kid themed restaurant not too far from Hersheypark! Every year I'm convinced that Hershey will be building a waterpark or at least a Castaway Bay type resort.. this will push Hershey to do something water related. I'm not a fan of waterparks but they generate lots of $$$ and its only a matter of time. Plus more $$$ could mean more money being put back into the park. I'm not betting on a new coaster until '07, the 100th anniversary. Unless they build the waterpark that year.. sigh.. Eric
coaster1 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Good lord .. maybe one suggestion of using resized thumbnails .. cause your server is lagging a bit and 230KB is alot for a thumbnail.
BarryH Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 I think Hersheypark was supposed to get a Frequent Faller, but something happened between them and the ride manufacturer.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 ^According to www.coastergallery.com, Hershey thought the ride would be $2 million, but it ended up that it would cost $3 million, so they canceled.
robbeal Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Yeah, looks like they're trying to get something to make up for not getting Turbulence this season. There's a rumour going round that this'll be a B&M Floorless, but am I right in thinking that space is at a huge premium at Hershey? Where would they squeeze a Floorless in?!
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 ^Yes, space isn't something they have a lot of, have you seen how they built Great Bear? It is built over and around a lot of stuff. It would be a wonderful addition, but I highly doubt it due to the recent opening of Storm Runner.
CoasterEricHP Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Yeah, I definately dont see a floorless coming to Hersheypark anytime soon. Floorless coasters seem few and far between in construction, and with Hydra an hour away I dont think Hershey would be too interested in it... It wont happen for two reasons. One, they take up a lot of space, and two, a floorless doesnt have anything unique about it (other than it being floorless...) to offer that the other 4 looping coasters at the park dont have covered. With Hershey's lack of space and if they are supposedly looking to make up for Turbulence by adding a coaster one year before the BIG year, I'd put my money on an Impulse coaster. Something completely unique to the area... I'd still rather see a Giant Frisbee Eric
YoshiFan Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Maybe they could go for a compact floorless like Dæmonen at Tivoli Gardens if space is an issue http://www.rcdb.com/id2504.htm
Not For Sale Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Why would they put in a Frisbee when they already have The Claw? Photo stolen and rehosted from http://matt.meckley.tripod.com/
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I too think an impulse coaster would be a good idea because they are fun and don't take up that much space. They don't have a drop ride do they? They could put in a new Intamin drop tower. I know they don't have the space and it won't happen, but they could always use a hyper or giga
CoasterEricHP Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Why would they put in a Frisbee when they already have The Claw? Yeah.. I doubt that'll happen. The Claw just seems so puny now after going to Cedar Point a few weeks ago I still cant see even a compact Floorless there. If you count the number of inversions Hersheypark has... Bear - 4 Storm Runner - 3 Sidewinder - 3 (6) SDL - 1 Thats what.. 11, 14 if you count Sidewinder as 6. A Floorless, or any coaster with loops just doesnt seem to have much need in the park right now. Here's an idea though. If they would take out the Coal Cracker and put a station there, do you think there's enough room along side the creek going past the Comet towards Chocolate World and the Lighthouse to fit in a hyper? Eric
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 ^ Sure, I think the hyper plan you put could work, they did amazing things with Great Bear. Also, a lot of parks put in coaster that you could NEVER guess would fit there. A hyper is also a coater they can fit into small spaces because its not compact. It has hills that can go anywhere, over and under things. They could save space by building an MF style lift hill.
Meteornotes Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Remeber that Herseypark owns the old airport land across from the park, as well as the golf course area behind Chocolate World. They have a lot of room to do all sorts of things if they wish. I still say a water park would be a really good idea... dt
rollermonkey Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 They could always just go the 6F method and shoot a hyper across all that parking lot along the main road! Please, not that though! Hershey's creative, they seem to want a coaster for the 100th, and don't want to get ripped off for it. They've gotten very creative fitting rides together, so whatever they actually want, they will figure a way to fit it in. I still think they will go smaller, though. Maybe a better Screaming Squirrel, now that the prototype is out and operating? Chris B
RCoasterny Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 It looks like the construction going on downtown is actually for a parking garage.
CoasterEricHP Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 It looks like the construction going on downtown is actually for a parking garage. I think underneath its for a parking area, but the long building on the corner is for HERCO offices and stuff. The first floor and underground may be parking. Hershey would never get a parking garage. They cost an insane amount of money to build.. I remember reading its like.. a MAJOR amount PER SPACE. HERCO is a big company, but not that big to be spending massive amounts of money on redoing a parking lot thats not even 3 years old for the park/Giant Center. I remember hearing/reading somwhere that the Fairview Golf Course is a possible new expansion area for Hershey.. maybe for another park (lets not get too far ahead) or use it for a waterpark. The airfield is definately an area for expansion but its not like they can reroute Hersheypark drive. That could be a major pain/eyesore to build a new area over a 6-8 lane road. Eric Eric
