chadster Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Our state fair has a certification process that the games must go through. After the games have been authorized to operate, if you suspect the game has been rigged, or, if you think you have been cheated, all you need to do is notify the nearest deputy who will contact the enforcement unit to investigate. They also have several undercover agents playing games each day to ensure the integrity of the games. Sadly, each year, multiple game operators are fined or shut down as a result of their practices.
bgwfreak777 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 The other night at Carowinds employee night, we got to play several of the games for free (since employees can't normally play games). Â Anyway, I was terrible at the milk can game, even though there wasn't any real pressure. The other game I played was the water race, and I came in second I think. But that one is not the type that would be rigged anyway.
BelizeIt Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 With a lot of the claw games the chances of winning a prize depends on the employee who stocked the machine. I've seen some machines where they have packed the prizes tight together like sardines, where on others there just laying loose on top of each other. Â At a recent trip to Disneyland, they had a new game called Barber Cut, where high dollar prizes(Nintendo Wii Etc) were hanging from strings and you have to use two control buttons to make a scissor device cut the string to release the prize. Â Here's a short clip of the game:
chadster Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ^ another adjustment they can make is how much pressure the claw has, thus giving the effect of picking up the item only to have it slip through the claw and back to the bottom to get you to try try again.
downunder Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I never play, for starters I'm not interested, I don't have time, and I assume the games are rigged anyway. Also the thought of carrying a fluffy bunny the size of three human beings around a park does not appeal to me, nor do the people who are into carrying huge fluffy bunnies around parks all day. Â I re-watched Rollercoaster again not long ago, I loved how George Segal won a ring toss game and his prize was a carton of cigarettes. Last time I was at King's Dominion in 2008, I didn't check whether those kind of prizes were still on offer. The psycho in the movie made George Segal marathon Rebel Yell, that's really mean.
alilstronger Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 If I like the prize I will give it a try. Especially when you buy a season pass to Six Flags and their coupon book have a few buy one get one free coupons for games.
bgwfreak777 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 ^^ That must have been the days when you had cigarette vending machines on every corner too. Â No cigarettes are not a prize at a Cedar Fair park, they just have the usual stuff made in China.
braztaz Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I do if I'm in the mood.  At Busch Gardens I won two domo's  And now for the East Coast Bash, guess I'll be winning some more!
cal1br3tto Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I never play the games. They simply do not interest me. If I'm going to spend money at a park, it's going to be on food or on carefully chosen souvenirs. Even when I get free game coupons, I'd rather spend my time riding or just hanging out. Also, the prizes don't appeal to me in the slightest, even if some might be cute or funny. Â That said, midway games are part of the amusement park (and carnival) ambience for me. They help add to the seedy and colorful vibe.

Nrthwnd Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) I was sort of 'addicted' a a young kid, to the old Pokerino game, of all the games there! You rolled balls into holes at the back of the "bowling lane", and worked out poker hands. After that, I enjoyed Skeeball for a few years. Â Nowadays, I did do a few games at last summer's PNE. This coupon book we got for those who bought a pass to the entire fair (definitely worth the $), included discount coupons for a few of the games in the midway, including a balloon/dart one. Cool! So I went and played them, and won a few totally random prizes, lol. Â If they offer it again this year, I will probably do it again. Why not? It's fun and the games ops certainly appreciate it when you play at their stalls. My games haul, in or on my bag, lol. PNE 2015. Edited May 1, 2016 by Nrthwnd
BuffaloWingRider Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 They're fun, but a total rip off. I don't really try them but I do like those lazer mazes that can be at parks.
I305forever Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Interesting . I dont think I have ever won one of those games.
