P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

Recommended Posts

Thanks. Ive never had to pay before... Always had the park exchange, but since I havent worked at Six Flags since the end of summer, I cant get the exchange. Does anyone know how busy Sundays have been?... Ive heard its usually pretty quiet on Sundays this time of year, but want to know how true that is.

So far this year we have gone one Saturday and two Sundays during Halloween Weekends. The Saturday was kind of cold and rainy and we felt like we had the whole park to ourselves. I love days like that! The Sundays were not too busy at all. We are going at least one day this weekend, possibly both days.

If you go on a Sunday make sure you watch the time so you get to do everything you want to do. You should have plenty of time, but use your time wisely because the day flies by when they close at 5:00. They have a lot of fun stuff going on that can easily distract you from your plan.

If you are planning on doing to corn maze they shut that area down at 4:30 on Sunday.

This is kind of random, but I have noticed that Raging Rapids has been open. I think they normally close the Raging Rapids during Halloween Weekends, but so far it has been open. They might close it depending on weather. It was still open this past weekend.

I just got an email a little while ago that had info about the Platinum Season Pass Bonus Hours.

^ In general, we get busier as we get closer to Halloween. And, of course, when the weather is lovely.

And when you "smell something really good" over in 4th of July, it's the BOOmin' Onions at The Alamo. I've had a number of people ask me about it after the fact - and they wailed at the thought of missing a chance to get some. Mrs. Klaus' Kitchen also has tons of pumpkin treats.

Oh, and ... this:

If you'd like to show us some love, we sure appreciate reviews on TripAdvisor, Google+ and Facebook.

Thanks for the info. I've been to the park 7 times, but never for the fall/ Halloween events, so I am very much looking forward to it. Also, this will be my first visit to any park as a loner. Making the 3 hour haul by myself will be the only downfall, but otherwise I can't wait... do what I want, when I want, as much as I want!!!

I personally find that a shared experience can't be beat, but do take it from me that there's plenty to do at the park to satisfy a solo rider! Hope you have plenty of fun!

^^Loving the colors, and already miss riding this coaster!

Their Halloween event really is stellar. First time I went I was worried that for the price there wouldn't be much, but after the fact I learned 29.99 is really a GREAT value! Like mentioned above they have so many cool things going on that its VERY easy to let your time fly by way to quick. If you go keep an eye on the time and what you want to make sure you do when there. HW has absolutely NAILED this event every year since they started it and every year it gets even more awesome.

EDIT TO ADD: HW does events in general like no other! They go all out.

Since you are not taking a kid you wont have to be as careful about time. I always take my five year old with me and I find that we spend almost the entire time doing the Halloween activities and don't ride many rides. You can skip the Dance Party, Trick or Treating, Corn Bin (giant sandbox full of corn), cookie decorating, pumpkin decorating, talking to Gourdon the giant talking pumpkin, magic show, face painting, etc. Those things are a lot of fun for the kids, but there is so much to do that it is hard to fit it all in on a Sunday. We always have a great time at Halloween Weekends and try to go as many days as possible.

My husband rode the roller coasters a few times last Sunday and the wait times ranged from 10 to 20 minutes. Our favorite seats in the wooden roller coasters are first row of the last car. My 5 year old has been tall enough to ride the wooden roller coasters for a few months but I haven't let her ride yet.

Have fun! I was there yesterday and there were a lot of people there, but the rides line were not bad at all. Hardly had to wait for rides, but the food lines did get a little long. I rode Thunderbird a few times yesterday evening and the wait time was only about 20 minutes. The Voyage was running yesterday. I hope they get it running today! I ate at Thunderbird plaza last night and it is so cool with both Thunderbird and The Voyage running through the woods.

EDIT: I just saw that you said they opened The Voyage! I hope you are having a great day!!!

So I just returned home from the park... what a great day!

Got to the park around 10:30, bought my ticket, and headed for the block point in 4th of July to wait to get to Thanksgiving. At 11 sharp, they dropped the rope and off we went. As I made may way across the bridge in to Thanksgiving, the first sign it was going to be a good day showed... Voyage was out test running, despite earlier reports that it would be down for the day. Anyway, a little bit further down, and there she stood in all her beauty... Thunderbird.

Myself and a family of 4 were the first ones in the que and I headed for the left side, front row... first train of the day and I believe only 10 others were on the this first rain with me. As we were moved to the prelaunch, I got that chill through out my body, and I haven't gotten that from anticipation of a coaster in a long time. Then the thunder started to rumble, and the sound is just amazing, they really hit a homerun with the loudness and clarity of the sound. Then we launched, I don't think I stopped smiling the entire ride. This ride is so well designed and put together. The transitions from element to element and the pacing was perfect, although I was kind of bored with the inline twist, I thought it was a tad too slow. Either way, unbelievable, fantastic coaster. As we returned to the station, remarkably there was 10-12 people waiting, so when I exited, I asked if I could ride again and was told with some hesitance, yes. This time, 3 row, and when we returned, I hurried down the exit to ride the other side. All in all, I rode Thunderbird 9 times, the average wait was about 3-5 minutes, except the one time it was temporarily down for about 20-25 minutes for a maintenance problem.

I hit up Voyage 3 times... it still stands as my favorite coaster, but the poor girl needs some TLC, she really is getting rough, but still pretty tolerable. I haven't ridden since they majorly tightened up the MCBR, but surprisingly it didn't take away from the ride as much as I was expecting.

Of course Legend was down, rode Raven 3 times, Crow's Nest 1 time, Gobbler Getaway 1 time, Liberty Launch 1 time, and Mayflower 1 time. I walked a couple of laps around the park too, just to take it all in and enjoy the beautiful day. Had Lunch at Smokehouse and opted for the Pulled Pork and it was very, very good. Cornmaze was fun too, but this is the one attraction I wish I would have had someone with me for, just seemed kind of boring by myself, but I still enjoyed it. All in all a great day!

I primarily only took pics in Thanksgiving since I have sooo many of the rest of the park already, but here a few of my favorites: ( my favorite is the one of the Thunderbird train going into the Immelman with the sun behind it)

^Great report and pictures! Sounds like you made out like a bandit with Thunderbird rides. I haven't been to Happy Halloween weekends... I'd be bummed Legend is closed, as it's my favorite in the park, but HW is the kind of place were I'll have fun either way. It's fun to just be there; they make it nice for us!

I'm curious about the corn mazes, never been in one myself. How do they manage people getting lost in there? I'm also curious to hear if the park set attendance records this year. Periodically looking at the Splash Cam over the summer, it would appear so!

Thank you,.. This was first visit to HW during Happy Halloween Weekends. I really wasn't there for the Halloween stuff, but I will say they do a great job decorating the park... they do it in a way thats not over done, but gives it a great feel.

I didn't expect crowds to be as light as they were, so I took every opportunity I had to ride TB as much as I could. I would have loved to have ridden Voyage a few more times, but I pulled a muscle in my back last week and thought I had already pushed my luck enough riding it 3 times as it was.

I was bummed about Legend, but its no biggie to me. A few years back after a pretty nasty storm went through and cleared out the park for the most part, myself and a few friends marathoned it for like an hour, and it made me get kind of burnt out on it... don't get me wrong, its a great coaster, but it comes in last for me out of the 4.

That was my 3rd cornmaze. The ones Ive done usually arent too hard and have numerous exit points for those who just want out or if there is an emergency, and most usually have workers in them.

I always say if something hurts, ride more coasters! I figure maybe the ride will jostle whatever it is back into place. A good excuse to ride more!

Sounds like you had a great day! I was going to go today, but I was tired from going yesterday.

Where did you sit on The Voyage? I have been trying all the different seats in The Voyage this year and I feel like the smoothest ride is the first row in the last car.

I miss hearing the school bell and howl from of The Legend. I love randomly hearing that through the day. But I know it will be back next year.

Holiday World has Mazed and Confused stations around the large corn maze where you can raise a flag to alert that you need help. I read about the mazed and confused stations on the paper maps they have when you enter the maze, but I never actually saw them in the maze. I totally failed the corn maze and ended up coming back out the entrance by accident, so I probably never even made it to one of those help stations. I was distracted watching Thunderbird through the corn and wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I still had fun though.

When I ride Voyage, I usually sit front row of the front car car, but yesterday I didnt feel like waiting. Every time I entered the station there was only a 1 or 2 train wait for the 2nd and 3rd cars, so I rode 2nd car twice and 3rd car once, I havent ridden in the back car in years. I wasn't paying too much attention to what was going on around me when in the maze, but I did see at least one help point. Im not sure quite how long it took me to get it done, but for me it didn't seem TOO difficult. I thought I was still some ways away from finishing and then before I knew it I had finished it.

On a side note, just like everyone else, I'm very curious to see what Holiday World has up there sleeve for 2017. I took a lot of time looking around yesterday at different areas, and after a lot of debating in my mind, I have the strong suspicion Holiday World's next addition will be for Splashin' Safari.

Had a great first visit to Holiday World with Zach (Imagineerz) and Matt (Koasterking48) yesterday. It was raining quite a lot but no rides was closed. As we all know wooden coasters get insane in the rain We had 7 rides on Voyage, 8 rides on Thunderbird and 5 rides on Raven. Voyage and Outlaw Run are tied as my No.1 wooden coaster now. I loved how insanly long it is that it is almost too much to take in. We magically got two TRIMLESS night rides at the last car after a whole day of raining. Even with the trim, the train was flying into the brake run like how it was without the MCBR stop! Raven was crazy as well, second half was super intense that it definitely gave me the "CCI WTF just happened" face. Thunderbird is a very solid ride that I enjoyed a lot. Yes it is way better than Gatekeeper and X-Flight and a lot smoother and rerideable than Parrot. But I have to say Parrot is a lot more intense than Thunderbird.

As for the haunt, massive respect to HW for making the carnival house so perfect! It is not scary for the whole family but creepy enough for adults. Everything Halloween at Holiday World was so on point that the whole atmosphere screams "Family Fun".

Thank you everyone at Holiday World for an amazing day! The world would be a better place if every park is running like Holiday World!

Trying to be artsy from the corn maze.

Have to get a photo for the trimless ride! Or as the correct way to say it: MCBR turned off rides.

Seriously, it was one of my favorite visits ever yesterday! We had a blast!

After an entire season (minus Media Day) of MCBR stops, this was unbelievable! Zach's face pretty much sums up how surprised we were.

I was there yesterday also, the Coasters were running Wild. I got 7 rides on Thunderbird, 3 in a row without having to get off, throughout the day. Still nothing compares to The Raven, in the dark, after rain.

I was there yesterday too! A little rainy, but so much fun! I am glad to hear everyone enjoyed their day at Holiday World. No wait Thunderbird rides were great. I asked my 5 year old if she wanted to ride the Raven before the end of the season and she said NOOOOOO!!! I probably wouldn't have let her ride anyways.

I am so sad that there is only one day left before Holiday World closes for the season, but thankful we already have our Platinum Passes ready for next year.

So the park is starting to talk a bit about 2016...

Kind of intriguing. Nobody has really talked about the survey they sent out a couple months ago. There was a question on there about them possibly adding a new event in the future. Perhaps a Thanksgiving event....maybe even Christmas. There was handful of others, but those were two that stuck out to me. Should be interesting to see what they have in store for the future.

^ I talked to her Saturday, after the Graveyard Smash show. She said they would be announcing a couple of " New Things" for next year soon. I think a Air Race would be perfect for Sparklers old spot and maybe a new waterslide over by Hyena falls.
