Here are some photos of the construction going on at Holiday World that I took yesterday...

And here's what makes that footing even more interesting: the columns are eccentrically loading the footing, meaning they're not centered. An engineer would not design that under normal conditions because it greatly reduces the load bearing capacity of the footing (and thus requires a larger spread, as we see here). An eccentrically loading footing like this means the forces exerted on it will likely be coming in at an angle. I'm guessing we are looking at a foundation in a sharp curve here. One support will be going towards the top center of the picture and the other will be towards the middle right, forming a "V"-shape. Just a small piece of the puzzle

So...the launch starts off heading towards Hyena Falls and then makes a sudden upward bank towards Voyage into a barrel roll?

I think I found something while doing a U.S. Trademark search. Not gonna say what I found in case I'm wrong and also out of respect for those who might want to be surprised. This is for something not related to the project photos you guys have all been talking about, but possibly another part of this expansion.

Had to edit because I found more.... Just... Wow...that's all I gotta say

If you found something that is public, I feel it would be safe to post on here, just give information of where you found it.

If you are talking about the trademark for "Holiday World Hotel", that was discussed on here awhile ago. It is most likely just for Holiday World to make sure somebody doesn't build a resort nearby and market it as the Holiday World Hotel or "The Official Hotel of Holiday World". I highly doubt they'll build their own hotel anytime soon.

Ok I retract my previous comments as it seems I'm probably off the mark there, but that's ok because it wasn't pertaining to the major addition anyway. Sorry for posting so much and so late (early). I'm still on medical leave from my stroke and sleep is sometimes difficult so I spent all night looking for clues and reading peoples guesses. I really have to give Paula Werne aka Raven Maven credit. Her clues are....cryptic at best. I know she reads here, but I wonder if she gets enjoyment out of us wondering and guessing and changing our minds on this new expansion? Paula - care to throw us a bone? Has anyone on any website or media guessed any part correctly or even gotten close? This is the longest 66 days ever!!

^^ Beat me to it!

If you're talking about the the trademark filed back in 2011 for "Holiday World Hotel", that has already been posted on here. Now if you have a possible name for the ride, go ahead and post it. It looks like we've got a designer, might as well get a name. Then all we have to do is wait for the layout to be revealed in 23 days, unless somebody figures out the microsite URL they're creating for the announcement.

Edit: just saw your post. What exactly did you find? Was it the "Holiday World Hotel"?

Well actually I did see the Holiday World Hotel....which is still active btw and Will did mentioning the possibility of doing lodging in the future if the local economy did produce it.. So I could see it as maybe a part of this announcement. What I found whats a bit "covered up" so to speak which I believe they have used similar tactics in the past to keep things from coming out. Also what I found wasn't a coaster related ride....however I think many of us expected more than one new ride addition. I really don't want to spoil anyone's fun in any of this though. Give me the ok and I'll spill it.

Given the clues, we are likely looking at something that inverts - probably ruling out Hyper/Giga coasters.

I'm still waiting for someone (*cough*B&M*cough*) to build a hyper inverting coaster, one day.

Most of us here are probably more interested in the coaster, seeing we're coaster enthusiasts, but we're also theme park enthusiasts, so we're also excited about what might be added along with the coaster. If you want to share the information, I don't think anybody is going to complain. If you don't, we've all waited 44 days, what will another 23 kill.

I'm willing to bet RMC will do it first. They only missed the mark by 20 feet with Goliath and Alan Schilke is a mad man when it comes to designing roller coasters.

Well I seen something pertaining to "skywheel" ... Would fit SOME of the clues, it's something HW is lacking and needs, and they could do it BIG. I'm still pretty dead set on that not all of the 66daysatsea clues are pertaining to just one part of the expansion.

The SkyWheel trademark filled as a Ferris Wheel/Amusement Park attraction under the owner of Koch Development Corporation is not associated with Holiday World seeing they're out of Missouri. I also double checked to make sure that was legit and there is a Koch Development Corporation out of Missouri and it is. They have their own website and everything. Other than that, there was nothing out of the ordinary when I searched Koch Development Corporation (located in Indiana) on the US Trademark and Patent website as it pertains to HW.

Edit: Just to further confirm this, here's the ride itself: http://myrtlebeachskywheel.com/

I don't want to come off as a back-seat moderator here, but I feel this is a bad time and place to be trying to go behind the park's back and dig up info. We have a representative from the park right here with us, and the park is going well out of its way to create a fun and elaborate teaser campaign for the enjoyment of enthusiasts and park-watchers. We are a mere 24 days from the announcement and if one was to uncover everything now, I think it would just make the community look bad. There's a thin line somewhere between intense research and speculation and just flat-out undermining the park's PR work. I know at some point soon we'll probably figure it out just from the footers and prep work, but that's different in my book than exploiting a legal filing or web slip-up.

I still feel really bad about how the Outlaw Run announcement got botched, even though that was pretty much entirely the park's fault for thinking they could merely not link directly to the announcement page and no one would find it.

^^ Umm all that information with Trademarks and Patents is free to the public on the internet and there was nothing illegal about it. If there was indeed something to find out, it would have been a name. Even if we did get a name, it wouldn't have revealed the layout, or manufacturer. He didn't undermine any of the parks work, considering what he found had nothing to do with the parks work. Even if he did, that's the parks fault for filing a trademark before the ride was announced where it could be posted on a public website. That wouldn't exactly be keeping it a secret.

Ahhh dang it. I didn't have the patience to research more into that to see if that was a legit company not a part of Koch Development...

Thanks for sharing what you found. I was curious to know, because I was staring at the US patent and trademark site trying to figure out what in the world you found that I hadn't already seen. I can see where you thought that it might be associated with HW, as the owner of the TM as the exact name as the corporation that owns HW, the only difference being location.

As for the speculation of a B&M. If it is a B&M, all I have to say is it will indeed be a game changer, especially if the park makes sure everything is done right. By that I mean taking the input they received from the enthusiasts at Holiwood Nights a few years back and making sure B&M designs it into the layout.

Nice to see someone who agrees!!

don't forget about Intamin

Posted
Intamin wing launch coaster anyone?

NO! HW will not buy Intamin after Giraffca/Pilgrim's Plunge.

It doesn't work that way in real life. Just look at all the problems Cedar Fair had with S&S's VertiGo at Knott's and Cedar Point, but it didn't stop them from buying Skyhawk and Xtreme Swing a few years later.

Posted

^Exactly. It has been said a million times. Parks buy from whatever vendor meets their requirements and provides competitive pricing, which Intamin does. Premier and Intamin have launched coasters down to a science. Yes, Zierer is getting into the launch game but not nearly as popular as the aforementioned companies.
