Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

When the park is crowded (rarely, usually every leap year)

I don't think anyone is calling for it's removal. Personally I hate it when parks remove their mine train coasters.

Guys, stop. I can't eat dinner when I'm laughing so hard.

I haven't been on Steel Force (or from the sound of it, Steel Farce), but how does it compare in your opinion to Mamba and Wild Thing? I actually quite enjoyed Mamba years ago, and, thought Wild Thing was fun as well! Neither comes close to my #1 Hyper (Morgan, or otherwise), Phantom's Revenge, but they were my favorite coaster in their respective parks at the time (both pre-GCI, pre-Inverts.)

It's pretty bad. It's forceless, and gives little airtime in most rows. It's OK in the front car but it's still mediocre. I'd say it's probably the 3rd or 4th best in the park as of 2016.

Now that you mention it, Dorney could really use a GCI.

I think that people are really exaggerating about how bad Steel Force is. I actually really like it, and it's my second favorite ride in the park, although it's by far the weakest hyper coaster I've been on. It's just one of those coasters that isn't that insane, but I just have a lot of fun on it and it's pretty underrated. There was a lot of nice floater airtime when I rode it, the speed is good in the first half of the ride, and I actually loved the long helix. But Dorney Park definitely needs a modern wooden coaster. I'm not sure about a GCI, but maybe a Gravity Group coaster would be the right option. They might consider going with a compact one, not as small as Wooden Warrior, but more on the scale of Grona Lund's Twister or Zippin Pippin, because obviously the capacity won't be that much of an issue. The reason why I wouldn't be as excited about a GCI is that they really need a coaster that completely focuses on airtime.

Well, I said it stinks earlier, but that was me exaggerating. I still ride it, and even have some fun on it. I just think the park needs something new on the dry side. The coaster line-up, save for Talon and maybe Possessed, is very stale.

Maybe some people are exaggerating, but I think it's deserved. It's one of the weakest hypers in the country, and probably the world. Is it a good ride? Yes, if you turn your expectations down far enough. You do go high and fast, and I enjoy the first drop and the helix for some reason, but overall its just 5,600 feet of mediocrity.

Nobody said Steel Force was bad. I'm a big fan of all mine train coasters... even Steel Force. The most forceless mine train ever except Trailblazer.

This has (kinda') turned into what the SFA thread at the start of the spring season......

I'm sure the people near Allentown, PA are like WTF is our discussion thread trending towards the top of TPR right now?

^This is how I feel about Goliath at SFMM! There is no way Steel Force could be more worthless than that massive disappointment!

I agree that Goliath is ridiculously forceless but trust me... Steel Force has it beat. At least Goliath has a decent helix which is one more interesting element than Steel Force will ever have.

Titan has two helices too many. At least with Steel Forceless it's actually forceless so you can get off without a headache.

Serious question: Is there any coaster at Dorney worth being excited about? I've always wanted to go, but it sounds pretty underwhelming from what I'm reading in this thread!

No. The only rides in the park worth getting excited about are the log flume and Demon Drop.

Talon is solid for sure, but it's not worth traveling for. Dorney is fun though because since there are never lines you can gets tons and tons of rides in. The rides aren't spectacular but you don't ever have to wait for them and that's pretty cool. It's also a pretty nice, very well maintained park.

Steel Force is still a better hyper than Titan, and I haven't even ridden it. Seriously Titan is garbage.

Having ridden both, Titan is a much better ride. Titan has great intensity, the way a hyper should.

If by intensity you mean throwing random blackout helixes into a 250 foot kiddie coaster then sure

Demon Drop is an amazing experience for those who have never ridden a 1st generation Intamin drop tower.

I agree that while Talon is an awesome, fun ride, it isn't worth traveling for.....Especially when Hershey is an hour down the road and you can ride Skyrush, Stormrunner and Fahrenheit.

During Coasting for Kids we rode Steel Force for 2 hours consecutively (30 rides) without getting off (this was before they made you walk around. You never even had to stand up).

After 6 rides on Talon we needed a break. We could have stayed on Steel Force all day
