niiicolaaah Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 For once, I actually have a valid contribution to this thread. "I want to know the REAL you!" says my beer
DerekRx Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Having a new beer this afternoon, Burning River from Great Lakes. It has a really sweet almost Belgian smell to it, but its pretty much just a really pale ale. Good with a nice balance of hop and malt, but really has no big finish that I like in my beers. I was really excited after the smell, but its a kinda everyday pale ale, which is still better than no beer at all Courtesy of CoasterFanatic!
Rugged One Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Tried the Titan IPA from Great Divide tonight. Not too bad. Could have been a little hoppier. The Titan IPA from Great Divide Brewing.
DerekRx Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Finished off the night with a Troeg's Lager. I guess I shouldn't have had 2 weak beers back to back, because I ended up peeing about 8 times after that! Probably my least favorite of the Troegs. Its not bad per say, its just not incredible. Bavarian style huh?
Rugged One Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 That's probably why they replaced the Bavarian Lager with the Dreamweaver Wheat in their variety packs. I always thought it was just OK. Pretty much everything in their rotation is really good to outstanding now.
DerekRx Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I think I'm done trying new beers for a few days, going back to what I know is good. First off, Alpha King If you're hoppy and you know it, you're a beer For that hop lover in all of us
DerekRx Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Next on the tried and true beer front, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, to celebrate my unplanned (and all expense paid) trip to San Francisco next month! "I knew I would one day regret letting him eat paint chips as a kid" Beer is good, beer is good, beer is good....and stuff! I hope they still have some of this aging in whiskey barrels for me next month
DerekRx Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Its Friday! I decided to go to BrewWorks, in Bethlehem, since its closer to my date for the evening than Reading is. However, she didn't show, so at least I still had good beer and a friend! Happy weekend drinking everybody! (especially you, alternate reality Northampton Smith couple!) When I get home, its time to celebrate with a Belgian Tripel, Golden Monkey So concludes a visit to Bethelehem BrewWorks and the Steelgaarden Though I am more saddened that my Lambic is all gone Whoa, total not blue shirt guy is totally hooking up with the future Taxol queen right in front of me! BBW used to have special glasses for this, then they all got stolen. Stupid college kids! The king of the dessert beers, Lindemann's Lambic Framboise Its very tart, almost like if Sweet Tarts made a beer With so many beers now being too strong, they have to be served goblet style. The mug makes way for the Framboise Lambic My phone and I share the same love, the BBW mug! I got reacquainted with my mug Talea enjoys a Hoegaarten Mimosa, which is Hoegaarten and orange juice "Watch me shove my face in this bowl of soup!" And beer and cheese soup! Got some BREWchetta, beer soaked tomatoes, pure awesomeness, as an appetizer Its just slightly above average, though I do have a very limited selection to put up against it, Storm King being the supreme being Hooray! By 6pm I'm at BBW, enjoying the newest brew, Blast Furnace Imperial Stout, made by Beau from Pyramid! Yeah, its Friday, its a very sloooow day. Is it time to drink yet? Only Coke, crap!
DerekRx Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Its a Saturday and I had no good excuse to get out of town, so the family is all pouring over at random times. What could be a better reason to drink! Decided to follow it up with another fruit-blessed beer, the #9 by Magic Hat A nice fruity wheat beer for a nice fruity guy Then broke out the Purple Haze for my lunch beverage Started off the afternoon with a Hop Wallop
Hattuchili Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Yesterday evening I had a few drinks with my friends! Take a look at my new Photo DR: Photo DR: A Few Drinks With Some Firends! --Sören
PhishyBrewer Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I've been lazy lately and haven't made it to any brew pubs. So this weekend I've just been drinking Harp.
DerekRx Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I found this at the bottom of the 'STICKY' pile and realized I hadn't updated yet today! (shame on me!) And the night was capped off with a Storm King by Victory, because you can't get much better than that at the end of the day Followed by a Winter Warmer by Lancaster. (yes, its still cold here, in fact the news just announced we're in a Code Blue for all those old people who don't know whether to put on warm clothing, or sit naked) Then I took it to the EXTREME with a Stone IPA It was just as I expected, nothing spectacular Then I started off today by trying Penn Pilsner for the first time I finished off last night with a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale just because I felt like it (no other good reason is coming to mind at the moment)
4718 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Had a Jack Daniel's "Black Jack Cola" this afternoon, first booze I've had a in a while and was okay......tasted like Jack and Coke, but I'll just stick with a straight cola next time I want afternoon refreshment.
DerekRx Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Can't start the week off any better than with a Hop Devil! Yeah, that look can only mean one thing, great beer mmmm, goodness
DerekRx Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Hooray for post 666! My 14 year old cousin seems a bit jealous of my knowledge and experience with the brews As a random snack, #9 and some cherry pie, because I had no Lindemann's Kriek Its Hopbackular! Sticking with the Hops theme of the day, a Troegs Hopback, served the only way appropriate, in a Hopback glass My Sweet 666 pose, with a Stone IPA and its demonic gargoyle logo
PhishyBrewer Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 ^Hey Derek... How about you bring a sixer of Hop Devl for me when you come to Frisco in March. I'll pay you back.
DerekRx Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 ^Sounds like a challenge! I may have to bring a whole case and just hope there are 6 of them left by the time you meet up with me! Of course, the quicker you show up, the more beer there will be. It shouldn't be too hard to take a 6 pack of beer on a plane.
SharkTums Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 How much was all of the pie, and did you have different varieties?
saturday97 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Had some awesome margaritas in Palm Springs this weekend... Derailed my graduate seminar last week by telling all of the Utahns how great Sam Adams is, luckily the prof is a big fan of SA and told the class that she has tried most of their seasonals. Now THAT is stimulating intellectual discussion!!
DerekRx Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Had a new beer tonight, finally tried the Brooklyn Monster Ale. Its a barleywine, and though I hadn't many types of this (Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot comes to mind), I'd say its probably my favorite of the Brooklyns, followed by their lager. Its definitely strong on the alcohol finish! One of the better brews from Brooklyn, thats for certain! Smells like a Belgian and it really has a great strong alcohol present finish, but not as sweet as a Belgian Time to finally try the Monster Ale from Brooklyn. Had to start out the evening with a Hop Wallop
Rugged One Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Wow, I'm finally getting around to posting this. So my buddy Greg came up from in SC to visit over the holiday weekend. He's a beer drinker as well, so we thought it would be cool to head over to Victory Brewing on Saturday to check out the second night of the Victory 10 Years New party that was going on. Storm King break! ....and then identify the beers as quickly as possible. The first event involved the contestants having to pick up sample glasses of beer with just their mouths.... Saturday night was the Woman's Beerathlon. What was cool was that they set up the festivities right in front of our table. Naturally, I had to help him finish it. Greg decided to order a bottle of V Saison. I was feeling a little German, so I went with a Mad King's Weiss and a bratwurst with kraut. Myself and my two favorite things. Kim and a Hopdevil. ...along with a big screen playing Victory history footage along with live footage that they were shooting for a new doc. The party was in full swing with music... We finally got seated for some food. The Ten Years Alt was awesome! Nice hop beginning with a fine malt finish at the end. Group Cheers! ...but they eventually got it going. At 5:00, they tapped the Ten Years Alt. Unfortunately Victory co-founder Ron took a bath doing so... Seriously, one of the greatest things you will ever see. Aaaaahhhhhhh. *drool* They had the special release Ten Year Alt on sale. Unfortunately, I never was able to pick up a six pack on the way out. May have to remedy that this weekend. at the Victory merch shop, where you can get everything Victory. The party started at 5 pm but naturally the place was allready packed at 4:30. We had an hour wait for a table so we thought we would kill some time.... It's time to party! The Victory Ten Years New Party, that is. Victory Brewing in Downingtown, PA.
Rugged One Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Last couple of pics. See you in 2016 for the 20th Anniversary. Cheers and Happy Birthday Victory! After the event, they gave out the leftover beer, so I scored a free St. Victorious Doppelbock. Unfortunately, we had to vacate our table before the third and final challenge took place. Bill and Ron took part in the next challenge, involving the contestants racing to bring them tankards of beer while trying to wear a hula skirt at the same time.
PhishyBrewer Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 That was effing sweet Heath!!! God... I hope Derek brings me some Hop Devil or something tasty from Victory in March when he visits NOR*CAL.
