What Was the Last Beer You Drank?

Haven't had a beer for a couple of days, so time to get back to trying some more local stuff. Tonight I'm having a Red IPA from the local Lysefjorden microbrewery. Very good beer, quite a fruity taste! It's written on the back that they used raisins to achieve the fruity taste, and you can certainly feel that. I like it very much!

If you want something "old-fashioned" with a real kick, try Jamestown Island Old Ale from the O'Connor Brewing Co. in Norfolk.

This 10.5% brew packs a wallop, and tastes a bit like hard liquor.

^ Interesting, Chuck...given that it tastes like hard liquor, would you say it tastes somewhat like a whiskey, scotch or something of that nature? Or does it have any type of beer flavor like an Imperial IPA or something like that? I've had some Imperials that taste a little like scotch that were quite interesting.

Speaking of Scotch & the Scottish, I was at my co-workers wedding this past weekend and she asked me if I liked the Erie Brewing Companies beer that I had been sampling at her wedding reception (she knows I like craft beer). I said that I did and she told me that her brother works a beer distributor that is owned by the owner of this Erie brewery. She then came out of the reception tent with a full case of Railbender Scottish Ale and gave it to me and said that there will be more where that came from.

Her and her husband don't drink beer so she said that whenever I want a case to just let her know as her brother can get free beer every now and again.

Have I seriously just died and gone to heaven???

Killians is the closest thing that I can think of when I drink this beer. A little stronger with a heavy accent on caramel, but quite good!

Continuing to explore the rapidly growing selection of Norwegian craft beers, the latest beer I have tried was Two Captains Double IPA from Nøgne Ø brewery. Holy crap this was seriously good stuff!!!

I haven't had an American beer in quite a long time (been busy checking out all the fantastic Norwegian stuff), but I was at the liquor store today and I this one caught my attention so I decided to give it a go. As expected from the label, it has a very fresh citrusy taste. I quite liked it, would fit perfectly on a warm summer evening.

It had a "bourbon" like taste to me, but I don't drink hard liquor very often. Sort of like those "bourbon-barrel aged" IPAs, but not quite as strong.

Great to have other people posting in this thread again, after a triple post I was starting to feel like the biggest alcoholic on TPR !!

So after a brief encounter with some American stuff, I'm back to all the lovely Norwegian craft beer. Yesterday I had a "Lyderhorn" Saison Noir from 7 Fjell Brewery, my favorite brewery (and located only a couple of miles away from where I live). Again wonderful stuff, after 17 different beers from 7 Fjell I have yet to have one I didn't like.

And tonight I just finished a glass of Trans Pacific IPA from Nøgne Ø brewery, also a pretty good beer.

Been sampling some beers from Ægir Brewery, a craft brewery located in Flåm, Norway. Those I've tried so far has been quite good, I particularly liked their session IPA. Looking forward to trying more from this brewery.

Another thing I absolutely loved was the design of their cans. Not only do they look fantastic, but they have a different design on top so when you open the can the whole top comes off, and you can drink it directly from the can and still get all the wonderful aromas while you drink it.

So my local brewery (7 Fjell) came up with this one. It's "The Donald - Ignorant IPA", which they market as "not being a real IPA". The name and label of the beer is obviously for comedic effect. It's a decent beer, but not up there with the best from 7 Fjell. However it's been spreading rapidly around social media so I suspect it will sell out rather quickly as people (like myself) will buy one or two just for fun.

The label also has a rather long text which is not exactly pro-Donald to put it mildly, so to keep this from possibly becoming a political debate I will stick to showing the bottom of the label only. Note! The "Enjoy with" is found on all the bottles from 7 Fjell, however normally the first two lines are related to food and only the third line has something humorous about it. This is also the first label I have seen which is not written in Norwegian.

Do hard ciders count as beer? If so, I had a delicious Nitro Blue River the other day while celebrating my birthday at HopCat. It's from the Northville Winery and Brewing Company in Northville Michigan. It's a blueberry hard cider.

However, if ciders don't count, directly preceding that cider (which was the 4th drink of the night I had bought for me), I had this...

It was a fantastic Scotch Ale from another local Michigan craft brewery in Paw Paw!

So here comes a quick trip report from Bergen Beerfestival yesterday. I had a great day, with lots of good beer. If my count is correct I sampled 16 different beers from 14 different breweries, and pretty much all was good stuff! Weather wasn't always on our side, but I still had a fantastic day that I enjoyed very much!

Unfortunately I didn't take many beer pictures, so they're mostly showing the festival area.

Welcome to Bergen Beerfestival

Started the day at the local 7 Fjell Brewery, my favorite brewery!

I started with a Cherry Berliner Weisse. A fresh and easy start!

As you can see the weather wasn't the greatest...

05.thumb.jpg.c95b851247b8aa524efef274eb38be67.jpg

..which lead to the tents being rather crowded!

This was how it looked in between the rain showers.

And time to take cover again!!!

In the afternoon the weather cleared and we hed some really nice hours towards the end of the festival.

Ending the mini-TR with one last crowd shot.
