DerekRx
Tonight was an IPA only night. Started off with a new brew, Titan IPA from Great Divide thanks to Rugged One. Very much a standard IPA, lots of hops, light in the alcohol finish. The Devil is spreading. Now he's taken over my shirt as well as my beer glass Next up, my favorite, HopDevil Not too amazing, but not too bad either. A nice starting IPA Titan, its not built by Arrow, and it doesn't have 2 helices and a STOP in the middle...

Rugged One
Tonight was an IPA only night. Started off with a new brew, Titan IPA from Great Divide thanks to Rugged One. Very much a standard IPA, lots of hops, light in the alcohol finish. I think you'll find that pretty much all of the Great Divide staple beers are the same way. Solid but unexceptional. Unfortunately, when you pay upwards of $40 for a mix case, you just expect something more than solid. Now their big beers that I've had (the double IPA & stout) are a totally different story. They're worth every penny. Last night was Amazing Race premeire night so I splurged and broke into two beers tonight. Courtesy of Derek this past weekend, I tried the Brooklyn Lager and got reaquainted with the Three Floyds Alpha King. The Three Floyds Alpha King pale ale. One of the best out there. Nice smooth blend of hops, citrus, and spices. Yum! The Brooklyn Lager. I was surprised by this one. It had some faint hoppiness to it that I really enjoyed. DorneyDude
My neighbors down the street love Stella. It's not bad but, when I think of Belgian beers, I think Ales, not Lagers. Kinda reminds me of Heineken without the road kill skunk aroma. Interesting side note; 4 years ago when I moved into my house, I met my neighbors and one of them (Tony) told me "Yeah, this is a great neighborhood. As long as you like Coors Light, you'll fit in fine." I turned to my wife and said "Uh-Oh!" Well, it took a few years but I have definitely influenced them enough that they don't buy Coors Light anymore and I've turned them on to the wonderful world of Microbrews. Jake, my next door neighbor recently told me he can't drink "regular" beer anymore. Just about brought a tear to my eye! Last summer I turned them on to Dos Equis, and Tecate became our official brew of the summer (they always liked Corona, I don't). This year will be the summer of Hoegaarden. I think Derek and Adam will attest that I live in one of the greatest neighborhoods in the world. verticalzero
Hey - PhishyBrewer: I only buy bottles of "Stella" and "Becks" from the local Tesco/Supermarket, less than £2 a bottle. I would not pay pub prices of £2.75 even £3 a bottle, not worth it as I don't drink much
DerekRx
Tonight's theme is Pale Ale (not to be confused with India Pale Ale, which is every night). Started off with another Great Divide brew, the DPA, or Denver Pale Ale. Just like the Titan, its really a good beer, but not outstanding. Nice citrusy smell and start. One thing it did have though was some seriously thick head! I could have sculpted something cool out of it, thats how foamy it was, like whipped cream! And the burps kinda taste like Denver, go figure! After I fought off the foam party going on at the top of the glass, I got to a pretty good beer. Its kinda like a 2000-2003 B&M...it could be a lot worse, but its not gonna be your favorite. Parts of Twister and other Denver stuff resides in this beer, I think
CoasterFanatic
^ I was actually pretty fond of the DPA and it was a "medal winner". The head is pretty rediculous though!
DerekRx
Continuing on with tonight's Pale Ale theme, my next beer would be Sly Fox's Phoenix Pale Ale. Only *problem* they serve it in a can instead of a bottle, which is really strange. When Heath told me they had recently starting a canning operation, I didn't believe him, but when my 6 pack of Phoenix came in cans on Saturday, I was shocked. This would be a first for me, as I've never stooped low enough to drink from a can....except for the free Heineken I had on a flight to Tampa in first class, though since I didn't pay for it, and it was Heine, I just expected it to be bad. Phoenix isn't bad at all though, in fact it tastes pretty much the same as the glass I had from the tap on Saturday. Way to go Sly Fox! Its surprisingly good even out of a can! OK, I've never tried this from a can thing, I'm kinda scared... Phoenix with all its accessories (In my best BatFlame voice with accompanying arm gesture) "Phoenix!" Dude, beer in a can!? DerekRx
Finishing up the Pale Ale night was a Troeg's Pale Ale, (which is way more citrus inspired than I remembered previously!) followed by a Magic Hat #9, which is not quite a pale ale (in fact, it says that on the label "not quite pale ale") but Heath had obtained my last Amish Four Grain Pale Ale from Lancaster, so to stick with the theme I had to stretch the rules a tad. Sit back, watch Lost, and enjoy your apricot laced not quite pale ale, its Hump Day! Look ma, I can make a NiiiCoLaaH face, and not be too blurry! Its "not quite a pale ale", but its pale enough for the theme of the evening Whoa, what a citrus kick! Troeg's Pale Ale, a great brew just waiting for a night like this! CoasterFanatic
While I am a big fan of Pale Ales, they can start to get a little TOO hoppy for me. Example: I just tried the new Troeggs Nugget Nectar tonight and it fits into this category right along side Hops Infusion and Hop Wallop. Dogfish 90 Minute is probably about my limit. Rugged One
Jumped on the pale ale wagon tonight and dipped into the aforementioned Lancaster Brewing Company Amish Four Grain. Decent pale ale and it's brewed not too far away. The Amish Four Grain. Thanks again Derek!

DerekRx
After booking a trip for next weekend is all done, tonight's theme is Victory. Started off with my first 10th Anniversary Alt Beer from a bottle. Excellent stuff. Next was St. Victorious Doppelbock. All I can say is "Wow! What a finish!" Very caramel-ly. Whoa, what a nice finish! St. Vics Doppelbock, another dark lager A great Alt-ernative to Dark Lager! Inspired by the Dusseldorf area of Germany, Victory's 10th Anniversary Alt Beer. DerekRx
I guess the entire theme of the night could be the Victory's Dark. Finished up the night with what was my favorite local brew last spring. My how times change! The Victory Dark Lager is still way better than the regular lager, but, as the label shows, its all malt. Very smokey in smell, but something strange made it almost like cigarettes! My tastes have gone a dramatic 180 degrees since then, and I'm more like IPAdam! Still a great brew, I'm just shocked at how average it seems to me now. The Victory Trio on this Thirsty Thursday Wow, I know its not totally the opposite of what it used to taste like, apparently my tastes have done the changing! CoasterFanatic
^ Derek, I agree. The St. Victorius was a kick ass beer. larrygator
^I guess that's what happens when you get older. I didn't like them when I was your age either. I had a couple of Guinness' tonight - Nectar of the Gods
Rugged One
Tried a new company tonight. The Toasted Lager from the Bluepoint Brewing Company. What's a toasted lager you ask? Beats the heck out of me. Tasted pretty much like a normal lager to me. The Bluepoint Brewing Company Toasted Lager. Decent but had a little too much of a watery finish. 4718
Had a Pyramid Apricot-Wiezen tonight, didn't really like it. Odd though, I LOVE apricots as a fruit, but this beer was just weird and I didn't even really taste anything I could point to as being "apricot". Also had a shot of Tequila and Absolut, they were okay, but at least I'm winding down after a busy day.
