gisco Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 So the article states that 20 million will pass by the place every year. Wonder how many will actually ride the wheel?
Jew Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I'm guessing a couple million between tourists and casino comps. Tickets will be for sale at all Harrah's properties, and will actually be reservations instead of just showing up waiting in line.
jray21 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Yay, it's made it 1/2 way! Isn't that more than almost every single other project in Vegas for the past few years?
Double0Kevin Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 ^ It's actually at about 3/4 way done now. They've done a lot in a week, which is impressive with the kind of weather we've had this last week. Lots of lightning and rain. Luckily monsoon season is over in about a week, unluckily we have big one coming in sunday that is expected to last at least 3 days.
VegasCoasterGirl Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 It's only support is through its cables?! That sound slightly terrifying being that I've never been on Ferris wheel before.
Mr Stratosphere Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 ^ A good example of the cable system is the London Eye.
Mr Stratosphere Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 High Roller is now a complete circle. This was taken Thursday, but they finished the outer ring yesterday afternoon before the storms rolled in. Â
Hercules Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 It's only support is through its cables?! That sound slightly terrifying being that I've never been on Ferris wheel before. Â I've been terrified on ferris wheels before, and none of them looked anything like this...... Since I am not an engineer, I guess I will trust it.
Double0Kevin Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Looks like the Goretorium is shutting down on Wednesday according to Screamscape. Ironically Fright Dome opens on Thursday so Vegas isn't without a Haunt for atleast another month. Â I never did the Goretorium so I can't say I'm really sad. I had always heard it was just OK, nothing great.
Mr Stratosphere Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Here is the current status of the High Roller.
Jew Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 Looks like the Goretorium is shutting down on Wednesday according to Screamscape. Ironically Fright Dome opens on Thursday so Vegas isn't without a Haunt for atleast another month. I never did the Goretorium so I can't say I'm really sad. I had always heard it was just OK, nothing great.  It was good, but not $30 good. Priced themselves out of business, something that was likely due to its location (rent on the strip can't be cheap). The bar had a real nice view too.
gisco Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The wheel is coming right along. I'll have to stop by when I'm in Vegas at the end of the month and check it out.
jray21 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Yeah, it's looking good! Any word on cost yet? I'm assuming it will be severely overpriced, in Las Vegas fashion of course.
Double0Kevin Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 ^ I think I read 500 Million somewhere but I'm not totally confident in that. It looked today like all the temporary lattice spokes were removed and the whole wheel is supported by the cables now. Shouldn't be long before we see the capsules added (once they are delivered of course).
bert425 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Yeah, it's looking good! Any word on cost yet? I'm assuming it will be severely overpriced, in Las Vegas fashion of course. Â Â when we were there in May, we were told that they were expecting it to be ~$22 per person. (which sounded WAY too cheap to me). Â my Aunt, who works in Flamingo at the desk, told me that she's hearing it's going to be $35 per person, and that's what she's been telling people who have been asking. Â Â so I expect when it opens, it will be $39.99 per person, with discount coupons all up and down the strip to save a few bucks here and there. Â Â was just in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend, and their big wheel (across from Olympic Park), was only $15 per person. . .but that one is a child's ride (22 stories) compare to the size of High-Roller.
Jew Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 $20-25 seems like it could be the total rewards member price... Â They still have to compete with Stratosphere and the Eiffel tower when it comes to attractions with a view, so it can't be TOO expensive.
bert425 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 ^^ wonder if they'll do a Tower/Wheel combo ticket offer. Â since (you know), Paris and Quad are both owned by Ceasar's (aka: Harrahs)
jray21 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I totally forgot about the Eiffel Tower. I still haven't done that one yet. Heck, if they can still charge $14 for the Big Apple Coaster (hate the name), they can definitely charge a lot more for the wheel!
gisco Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 ^I have only done the Eiffel Tower once. It was at night and we got to see the water show across the street at the Bellagio from up there.
OISU8P Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I am looking at possibly making a trip to Vegas this New Years Eve. I am recently divorced and looking to just have some fun to start next year. I am not looking at "instant action" and more of a place to socialize and have fun with others in my age range starting over. Although, I would not deny any "instant action" given the opportunity. Â Do any of the Vegas regulars have any recommendations on clubs that revolve around singles?
Jew Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 During the week of NYE, expect to pay a premium where ever you do go! Â That being said, I would try to find a lounge. Two I can think of are Mix at the top of THEHotel and the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay.
Double0Kevin Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Aria has Deuce and Bellagio has Hyde. Both, are pretty decent lounges but I expect both to be really pricey.
Hercules Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 So what does everyone think about the shooting at Bally's?
jray21 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 It's Vegas. Nothing really that shocking or new, unfortunately.
Jew Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Yeah. This is the town tupac was gunned down in afterall. Just shady nightclub business as usual.
