Hey everyone!

With Roller Coasters in the RAW Volume 4 just around the corner, I have to start thinking about RAW 5 for spring of 2010 and what will be included on that DVD.

After getting back from Japan this past trip I realized "OMG, I have a TON of POVs from all over Japan" and I thought about putting together a DVD that would include a lot of those coasters.

I wouldn't include anything that has been previously released on other RAW discs (unless you all think I should so that Japan is all in one place), but it would include whatever major wood coasters we haven't released already (White Cyclone, White Canyon, Jupiter, etc) and major steel coasters (Pyrenees, Thunder Dolphin, Venus, Jupiter, Fujiyama, Big Boom, etc) along with a ton of funky Jet Coasters from all over the country, and a bunch of really whacked-out stuff (Ultra Twister with Dive Loop, Togo Corkscrew & Loop Mouse, Concrete bobsled coasters, etc)

There would be between 30-40 coasters in total on this DVD.

So the question is - Would you be interested in a "Special Japan Edition" of Roller Coasters in the RAW?

Thanks for your feedback! Please post your thoughts about this.

A lot of these coasters are probably "unheard of" but that could be very interesting to some.

I would most definitely consider it! One full of Japanese coasters sounds rather interesting to me.

BTW, if you voted "no", don't be afraid to let us know why! I really do want feedback on this as putting together a RAW DVD takes a coulpe of months worth of work and I'd like to make sure that it's time well spent!

This would be added to the ever-growing list of DVDs I am eventually going to buy.

Hey, I finally got around to ordering a hoodie. Baby steps.

I'm all for it. I've loved Japan for a long time and I really want to get over there, so this would give me yet another good idea of what to expect. Also, just the appearance of some of the Japanese coasters alone tell me, this might be one of the best Raw DVDs ever.

I'd actually prefer "park-specific" in the RAW DVDs...

It's very rare that I have footage from all the coasters in one park, so it would make it difficult to do a full park's worth of Roller Coastes in the RAW.

If that's what you mean.

I'll admit at first I was like nah, then this morning when I came back on, I was like yes, yes, yes! Hey Robb, dont you have footage of Crazy Mouse at Tobu?

I am saying no because I am not a fan of coasters in Asia. Many of the coasters they have just seem ho-hum to me. They have a few good ones but Asia is honestly the last place I would ever go to ride coasters unless I was just bored and had every other credit in the world. Just my opinion.

I voted no. I am a huge fan of the Raw DVD series. They are probably my favorite coaster DVD's I have, and honestly, I had been waiting for straight footage for a very long time in DVD form. However, I don't really like the Japan only thing. I think the thing that really attracts me to your videos has been the wide variety of coasters from around the world, at varying parks. Sure, there are a bunch of different parks in Japan, and I'm sure the rides differ a lot from each other, but the experience of seeing different rides from different places around the world is more appealing to me. I really liked the defunct theme to the last DVD's, but I'm not a huge fan of the country specific theme.

This is all great feedback! It really is! I want to hear what people think either way because if a lot of work is wasted, I'd rather put that towards something more people will appreciate.

I will give you a little insight as to why I was thinking this though...

For the RAW series, I try to come up with a list of coasters that is as attractive as possible. For RAW 1 and RAW 2 this was easy because they were spread a year apart and there was a lot of new coasters that I was able to get footage for, and I had a library of coasters that we had not released.

In the same time I also had a ton of footage that might not have been a "highlight" coaster to some, but compelling nonetheless. So I started to think about doing a "themed" RAW disc every other volume as a way to get some of this other footage released. Hence the reason why the "defunct" disc was created.

Many of those coasters on Volume 3 (Triple Hurricane, Cop Car Chase, Zonga, etc...) probably wouldn't make the cut for a "fall edition" of RAW, but for a mid-season release where everything follows a theme, I think some of those lesser-known coasters worked quite well.

For RAW 4 we have another line up of either recently opened coaster or coasters that are fairly popular (Prowler, Diamondback, Fireball, Tranan, Piraten, Legend, Twister, Silver Bullet, Xcelerator, WEM Mindbender, Georgia Scorcher, Rampage, After Burn, Jetline, etc, etc....)

I have an opportunity in the spring to do another mid-season RAW release that can include some maybe "less popular" but equally as compelling coasters and I start to look through my footage to see what I can put together.

Having just come off this Asia trip where I probably got POVs of another 20 or so coasters seemed to make a lot of sense. These are probably rides that may not make the cut for a fall release of RAW, but that doesn't mean some of these rides aren't "interesting."

Perhaps if the collection wasn't just focused on Japan, but maybe China, Japan, and S. Korea? I don't know if that makes it any more or less appealing to some people.

I also would not want to re-release coasters that have been featured on other POV discs. So coasters like Atlantis Adventure, T-Express, Phaethon, and Eagle's Fortress wouldn't be on an upcoming volume of RAW. But I still have POVs that were never released like the Arrow Triple Loop Corkscrew, that huge Vekoma looper at Kumdoriland, and tons of random coasters all over China (Like the Intamin 8-looper, another B&M SheiKra-ish Dive Machine, and more Mega Lite's.)

Basically, my options for Volume 5 would pretty much be:

- Do a themed Volume in the Spring.

- Skip doing a Spring release and do another "major coasters" disc in the Fall.

And if I skipped the Spring release, it's probably very likely that many of these POVs we have would not ever get released on a DVD. But would that even matter to some?

Anyway, sorry for the long post, I just really want to give you all a bit more information so you can give me the best feedback possible.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the info Robb. For me, it would not make a difference if you added some of the other asian countries. Honestly, the only coasters I care about in Asia are the mega-lites and Fireball and a select few others. For some reason there just seem to be a lot of Vekoma or Arrow's there and those do nothing for me. I ordered one of the Coaster Expeditions that had all asian coasters on it and honestly only watched it once. I think it would be better to highlight Europe as a whole and make a Raw series of all the new coasters that opened there in the past few years. That would be great!!!

Please try to include the Benyland, Sendai Blue Jet coaster, The Rutusu Resort Jet coaster, the Sendai Loop the loop, the Tein small coaster, The shoe coaster, The Saeki mouse coaster at Rutusu Resort, The standing togo coaster at Rutusu Resort, Tochinoki Family Land Jet coaster, Torokko Coaster, Wani Wani coaster, Loop and cork at Hokkaido Greenland, Coaster at Utsunomiya Zoo, Dinosaur Coaster at Suntopia World, See Through Coaster at Kamine Park, and Thru-the-Woods Jet Coaster at Pleasure Garden.

^^ That's interesting. I find I like everything in the Expedition series, regardless of area or theme--and I watch them all over and over again. Whereas I only watch the Footage discs once, and I'm pretty much done.

I have yet to order or watch any of the RAW discs, because I assume I won't particularly like them (since they're presumably similar to the Footage discs). So I haven't voted in this poll, since my vote would be meaningless.

Though, again, I really love the Expedition series.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Robb doesn't have a collection of POV's from every coaster...... ever.

^ That is interesting to me as well. Obviously it is a personal preference thing, but I tend to dislike the Expedition series. It can be entertaining, but I tend to like more coaster and ride footage, as opposed to a music video mix.

Also Robb - for me, I think more of a tour of Asia would help broaden it in terms of interest for me, but I still wouldn't be completely sold on the idea. However, I do like the idea of getting the release out as opposed to never getting that footage on another disc. Perhaps it might be a good thing to do either straight Japan or Asia if you have to in order to get the footage out to people. If that is what it comes down to, I am sold on it.

Geez...ANYTHING ELSE?

I mean, why didn't you just list EVERY SINGLE COASTER IN THE WORLD?

Seriously though, it's one thing to put together a DVD of lots of coasters from Japan, even some of the not-so-great stuff, BUT there's a difference between the "best of the crap" and just plain old "crap."

I'd put on a DVD the "Best of" the Jet Coasters, shuttle loops, and corkscrews if there is something UNIQUE and INTERESTING about them, but there is no way in hell I'm releasing a DVD full of crappy coasters.

Sorry, crap like the "Loop Screw at Hokkaido Greenland" will never be seen on a RAW DVD.

It's just not interesting or different enough to warrant having it be included.

I hope you can understand.

I would agree that variety is needed. This is a big yes for me but would be a guarenteed buy if you made it Asia RAW!

I would suggest dropping some of the more "normal" mouse/family coasters and adding big China/Korea/wherever else you have footage from.

That's my 2 cents.

^^^^^And that coaster list is way too specific I mean who wants to see a POV of Batman: The Ride when we've all been on it!

Hi TPR

I voted 'Yes' because, I'd like to view the footage in years to come, and remind myself what old-fashioned coasters used to look/ride like.

I also like the thought of documenting coaster footage for future generations to enjoy. Like a living library!

I'm such a nerd!
