Calico Ghost Town is headed for the bigscreen.

Allentown Prods., headed by documentary filmmaker James Moll, has acquired feature rights to Knott's Berry Farm's Calico Ghost Town and all the rides and original characters created for the theme park.

Allentown director of development Chris W. King shepherded the concept with Moll, who will produce. Story's set in the Wild West at the turn of the century, centering on the boomtown gold mining town of Calico, which has been overrun by ghosts and evil supernatural creatures.

At its peak, the real Calico had a population of 1,200 and more than 500 silver mines. The Mojave Desert town was abandoned in 1907 and later became a tourist attraction that was at one time owned by Knott's and is now independently operated.

Knott's Berry Farm's version of Calico Ghost Town is the oldest attraction at the amusement park in Buena Park.

"It's the perfect setting for a big, spooky, family adventure with all the elements of a classic Western -- cowboys, showgirls, gunfights, chases through creepy mines -- all with a supernatural twist, " Moll said.

Moll expects to announce additional financing along with a writer and a director later this summer.

Knott's, visited during the past decade by an estimated 30 million people, is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.

Bolded parts are the most interesting. Could be cool, and maybe some much needed emphasis on the best part of Knott's. And maybe even a Haunt tie-in???

A Haunt tie-in would be the best thing in the world!

So they tear down the local church and replace it with a mediocre inverted roller coaster.

This sounds like a great idea (if done right). Hopefully it will turn out like another Pirates, rather than a Haunted Mansion. As for Haunt, well ghosts & evil creatures lend themselves too well not to pursue that tie-in .
