ChrisZer0 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 From the looks of it, 3d Realms is no more and a couple buddies of mine are prolly out of work... http://www.gamespot.com/news/6209271.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;5 So that begs the question, will we ever see Duke Nuke'em Forever?
Hercules Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Wow. I was really hoping to see Duke Nuke'em Forever by the time I was 90.
Manny In England Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I don't think that anyone was ever going to see Duke Nuke'em forever.
ChrisZer0 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 From what I understand, as I have a friend who worked there until 2007, most of the development for the DN4 project was all tech-demo based playing w/ the unreal engine. Not until the last year have they actually had something playable, alot of the dev money was going to various outings and not focusing on product. He got fed up with that and the pace of the project and moved to another company down in austin, where he's working on a new MMOG.
terrancew_hod Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 With the economy as bad as it is, I'm not surprised that free ride is over. I wish I could get a job where I show a screen shot or a quick snippet every once in a while for over a decade and get cold PAID. It's almost like running a Ponzi scheme... people invest in your company and they live off that money and you get nothing in return. I wonder how much code and graphics was actually done? Well in fond memory: This was the best part of the game and my role model.
Chris Benvenuto Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I honestly believe a company will pick up Forever and actually complete it. FASTER then 3D. But, regardless, this is a remarkably sad day in the gaming industry. I wish all of those who worked for the company best of luck finding another place to work and the best in whatever they do. I was always a Duke Nuke'em fan: I'll tear yer head off and $H!T down yer neck!! I've GOT BALLS OF STEEEL! Two of the best Duke lines. EVER. RIP 3D Realms, you wil be missed!
ChrisZer0 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Took them 14 years, but they got the recognition they deserved...
Carnage Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I honestly believe a company will pick up Forever and actually complete it. FASTER then 3D. I don't think we'll ever see that game come out. Though in the slim chance it does, it might make more sense for someone to buy the title and slap it onto a game already in development. It's just better that they put it to rest, and stop beating the dead horse. This game has been vapour ware for so long that the expectations would be way to high. Even if it is finished, an average or good game would be a letdown after waiting nearly two decades for it.
Bubba83 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 "Shake it baby." As you can see from this article: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/rumor-duke-nukem-dev-3d-realms-shut-down/ Apogee and Deep Silver will continue work on DNF. Some new screens were just released today: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/10/duke-nukem-forever-gameplay-surfaces-requests-we-come-get-some/
netdvn Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Man it's hard to believe that it took more than ten years to develop this thing and they STILL haven't gotten anything done. Its even harder to believe I was in the first grade when they planned on releasing this game. Not to mention so many things have happened since then... Man I already feel old
DenDen Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Man I already feel old No, I feel old! I had the original Duke Nukem sidescroller shareware from Apogee when I was around 20. Back when video games were fun.
netdvn Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 New video games are still fun.... Except I'm mainly playing NES, Genesis, SNES, Game Boy, and DS games nowadays.
terrancew_hod Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Man I already feel old No, I feel old! I had the original Duke Nukem sidescroller shareware from Apogee when I was around 20. Back when video games were fun. Uh Uh. I feel old. We were playing the side scrolling classic Karateka on the Apple IIs in the computer room in high school while waiting for our turn to run our programs on the punch card machines that took up half the room. Commodore PET anyone? Not to mention how I modified the code for a Q-Bert clone written in Commodore BASIC for fun and saved the code on a 5 1/4 floppy. netdvn Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I remember my school had a computer lab filled with old 80's Macintoshes that my class would go to play "learning games". Then in 1998, we got a new computer lab with iMacs and it was fun. I can actually remember visiting PGA and CP's website. Then in middle school we had a techology lab with old computers from the late-80s, early 90s that were donated to our school from William & Mary. Dan - Duck Hunt was my first video game.
Chris Benvenuto Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 My first video game was actually Pac-Man for NES back in 1991. My brother showed me how to play it, and I wasn't good. I was a tot still and when you're a tot you really don't care for video games quite yet. Computerwise, my first computer was a Macintosh Classic II and then our elemetary school had a media center full of Macintosh Color Classic's for along while. Now they've been replaced with new 2000's era PCs, and they've rebuilt my elemetary school by tearing the older one down and rebuilding the new one on the plot of that it was on, horizonally and a 1/4 west of the old school. wow....talk about flashbacks.....dang.....
TheRapidsNerd Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Awww what a bummer. Duke Nuke'em 3D and the ninja shooter with Low Wang (Shadow Warrior?) we're a couple really fun games. Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder if the Serious Sam games were inspired by Duke Nuke'em 3D. Either way, I loved the one-liners and sarcasm in both series.
Wes Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Why does everyone keep calling it Duke Nuke'em? It's Duke Nukem. Do you all play Doo'om and Haa'lo too?
robbalvey Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Do you all play Doo'om and Haa'lo too? I play A B'oy and his B'lob. --Robb
netdvn Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I'm currently playing Meg'a M'an 2 and Th'e L'eg'end 'of Z'eld'a 'A L'ink t'o th'e P'ast...
