davisal771
^ He mixed it up I'm sure. Yes, I did, and my emotions also got mixed up My true feelings about the Schwarzkopf shuttle: Oh no, the Shuttle is leaving! That really blows. If it was an Arrow shuttle and leave, those would have been my true feelings.
coasterdude5
1997 19th Season There's been a lot of buzz this past week since the announcement of Viper's upcoming closure was made. Everyone has an opinion on what they think will replace the classic coaster, but I do have some insider information. My "source" told me that plans were set for a coaster that would surpass the 200 foot mark to replace Viper. However, when the city denied the park's request for a height variance, everything changed. My source told me this ride was installed at two other Six Flags properties, and due to the significant problems that have arose surrounding those two rides, Six Flags South Carolina management is happy that we are no longer receiving this attraction. Now, there is no confirmation on what we'll see next weekend. But SFSC is moving forward with plans to remove Viper to free up a large plot of land. One would speculate that this is where we'll see the now unknown addition be built next year. I'll keep you updated! I got an early look at Six Flags South Carolina this morning as I was getting quotes for a story on the park's food service. It seems Parachute Falls will be sticking around for a bit longer! It provides the best view in the park! I suppose next year's addition could be built in this area, but that doesn't explain Viper's closure. As it was a Monday, the lines were short enough to grab a ride on Batman before heading back to work. Tomorrow we'll take on last ride on Viper. - Joe
davisal771
Hmmm, probably was going to be a Giant Inverted Boomerang.
CorkscrewFoley
What about an Impulse coaster? No? So can we start a petition to keep Viper around?
coasterdude5
Pay attention to the timeline, it's very obvious which ride it was going to be.
andyuk200523
Well, originally it was going to be an Inverted Giant Boomerang, but its anyone guess now I suppose - maybe a Mr. Freeze type ride?
rckrazy06
MR. FREEZE!! Or even better..CHILLER!
KDcoasterMAN
I think we'll be seeing a modified version of Mr. Freeze (to keep it under 200 ft) or a FOF outdoor clone (since two of these have been built at SFI Parks...
rckrazy06
Yeah but those two coasters were built in '99, if we were to follow the timeline, Mr. Freeze would make more sense.

Good point - misread the year on the latest post......i still think Mr. Freeze type coasters will be next to appear.
coasterdude5
ATTENTION: FOLLOW CD5 ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK FOR #SFSC1998 CLUES! 1997 19th Season Today we take one final ride on Viper. Viper was well known for being the tallest coaster at the park. Derecho will soon reclaim that title. It was no secret that Viper has been experiencing a decline in ridership. With newer rides such as Batman, the "old-school" Viper didn't stand much of a chance. But when the ride first opened, it wasn't uncommon to wait hours to get a ride on the Heatwave. So it is sad to say that we bid farewell Viper. We thank it for the countless years of fun rides. The Six Flags South Carolina skyline will never be quite the same. - Joe

KDcoasterMAN
The Project Name "SFSC1998" is kinda cool. Makes me think of SW7... As for the new coaster... I'm thinking that its a fair chance this is Premier... Or It could be B&M...
CorkscrewFoley
And Coasterdude, I have been following the timeline, just had a brain fart that is all...old age does that. I can see a Mr. Freeze taking Viper's place, one shuttle for another...right?
dmaxsba2408
A Mr Freeze would be amazing in this spot. Can one of those be build relatively accurate in RCT3?
mightbeawannabe
^I don't think it can be really right, but yeah, it can be done but not on a realistic level. The real ones exit off away from the launch a bit and the overbank would be a bit off. I say Premier Spaghetti bowl (Granted they opened in '99)! But....it is 1998.The Mr. Freezes were actually supposed to open in 1997, but didn't due to technical and power issues and instead opened in 1998. Mastersax68
De ja Vu? I don't keep up with real Six Flags affairs that much. Or batman and Robin, The Chiller? I don't know.
deathbydinn
There were three SF Deja Vu's and only one Chiller, so no.
10ryansmith
First, love the park. So much detail and theming. To the knew attraction, there are two Mr. Freeze's (Texas and St. Louis), correct? So that would mean that it is not going to be the Mr. Freeze since the abouve statement said that the two other attrations are having issues and that this park is not going to get it. I have no clue as to what could go in other than a Deja Vu type ride that would fit the timeline. Anyway cant wait to see what comes next.
coasterdude5
ATTENTION: FOLLOW CD5 ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK FOR #SFSC1998 CLUES! 1997 19th Season It's been two weeks since Viper closed, and the ride is already gone. There is no word yet on whether or not the ride will be sold or moved to another Six Flags park. The day after Viper closed, its signage was gone. The train was removed from the track. Within a week, the ride's iconic loop disappeared. And now, two weeks later, everything is gone. A large tract of dirt remains. Whatever's coming next year is gonna be big. I'll keep you updated. - Joe
