coasterdude5
1995 17th Season CHARLESTON - A tidal wave will strike in 1995 at Six Flags South Carolina with the opening of a shoot-the-chute style attraction aptly named Tidal Wave! The six-story water attraction is guaranteed to be just as fun for onlookers as the riders themselves with many viewing areas and a "soaking" platform near the ride's sixty-foot plunge. Guests will depart the station in six-seat boats before climbing to the peak of the ride's height. After a quick turnaround, riders will plunge six stories to a giant pool of water below. The ride is manufactured by Premier Rides. "This additon confirms our dedication to this park," park president Jeffrey Bell said. "We are dedicated to continuing this park's growth." Tidal Wave will open when the park opens for its second season as a Six Flags park in April of next year. I will get an exclusive look at Tidal Wave tomorrow before the ride opens to the public! - Joe Edited April 19, 2015 by coasterdude5
andyuk200523
Looking good - however Premier have never made any shoot the chute rides (from my research on premier's website this backs it up) however I think the style of ride you are talking about is an Intamin Spillwater 12/20 passenger model. http://www.intaminworldwide.com/iag/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=33 Looking great apart from this very minor thing though
mightbeawannabe
^Hopkins made a model nearly identical to CD5's chute that had the mid-drop bump. It looks great though! I hope that are gets even more attention!
coasterdude5
1995 17th Season I was invited to a special media day preview of Tidal Wave at the park today. It looks like a fun ride! I was told quite an interesting backstory to Tidal Wave. Up until three or four months ago, Tidal Wave was going to be a hybrid water/steel rollercoaster. That black piece of track I spotted was to be included in the rollercoaster section of the ride. However, Premier, the ride manufacturer, experienced problems with a model of the ride in their factory. They brought these problems to Six Flags officials and rather than taking a risk on ongoing problems, Premier and Six Flags decided to go with a more traditional ride. Throughout the ride, you can still see the "coaster" track that would have taken the ride on a twisted journey through the woods behind the ride. However, this track now simply guides the boats along their course. Premier says they hope to have the liquid coaster concept developed at another park within five years. The ride features two stations to increase capacity. The ride is fun - but don't expect to stay dry! Even onlookers will get soaked! The ride's sixty-foot drop is considerably bigger than Indigo Plunge's. The park opens for its 17th season tomorrow! - Joe Edited May 16, 2015 by coasterdude5

coasterdude5
1995 16th Season Today's opening was seemingly just as huge as last year's. The crowds were unbelievable - Tidal Wave's line was never under an hour. The crowds quickly migrated to the park's newest attraction, Tidal Wave. You're about to get soaked! The fast operation by Six Flags staff was praised throughout the day. It's great to see this part of the park full of life once again. Rather than making a 180 degree turn out of the station, Tidal Wave boats would have climbed a short lift hill before using the park's hilly terrain to plunge about 40 feet. Charleston Railway gives you a great view of the ride. I'm very excited about this season! Edited September 8, 2015 by coasterdude5
mightbeawannabe
Haha...In five years Buzzsaw Falls [Apart] will...fall apart, I mean OPEN! Great update by the way! Is the chute hacked or something to get the two types of flume? EDIT: Well, as it appears, I'm a day late...

Six Flags Enthuseast
Wow. I just read through all 60 pages. That's exactly what I just did! Great park! The storyline is excellent and the park is well varied. I'm thinking an Intamin Giant Drop is in the future of this park... But that's just me. davisal771
^ It took me a while but was sooooo worth it. I thought about looking through Hershey Hawaii but the 115+ pages I saw disturbed me . I'm looking forward to more updates, as this is an amazing idea (timeline parks), I didn't even know how heavily you could theme parks until I saw this thread. I though RCT3 was cram as many coasters and flats into an area as you can But now I see the light, and I tried to make a themed park, but it was a fail. coasterdude5
1995 17th Season The park has been open for a couple of weeks now and the attendance numbers are holding steady. At least that's what they tell me! Tidal Wave continues to gain popularity among park guests, especially as we approach the hot summer months! With a lot of focus on Harbortown, Vulture has also experienced some renewed interest among guests. It's an exciting ride! Hold on tight! Now, we wait. Goodbye now! - Joe Martin Edited September 8, 2015 by coasterdude5

coasterdude5
1995 17th Season Hello! As we continue through this season, many are beginning to speculate as to what is coming down the pipes for next year. I've heard a lot of ideas. Everything from a new rollercoaster to an entire new area has been thrown around. So far there is no physical proof as to what could be coming to Six Flags South Carolina next season but you know I'll keep you informed! Good morning, Six Flags! Indigo Plunge's line isn't quite as long now that Tidal Wave has opened up. Vulture's line is still long. Derecho still lights up the sky - I hope that view never changes! Unfortunately, the swan boats did not return this season. No one knows, or will say, why... - Joe Edited September 8, 2015 by coasterdude5
dmaxsba2408
As always your posts leave me wanting more. *dmaxsba is still not happy with Six Flags taking over the park and would like to organize an protest sit-in at the parks main gate where we will all gather around Dolly Parton's boobs as if they were a campfire and sing songs about backwoods living and the proper way to run and develop a southern amusement park. GaryGB
Your night shots of Derecho are absolutely amazing. I wanna use them as my PC's desktop wallpaper sometimes.
SuperSous
I just read through all 65 pages and WOW! This park is amazing and the attention to detail is incredible! I though it was a good move for Six Flags to buy the park,i'm interested to see what rides the park well get in the early 2000's!
Six Flags Enthuseast
Derecho is nice, but you should give a little love to the Parachute Tower; it's nice looking too! In fact, I have a suggestion: Repaint the tower with the white trim changed to blue, and rename it American Eagle. You might be able to even rename Derecho Great American Scream Machine (or vice versa for both), and retheme the whole area to a patriotic village area. davisal771
^ While doing a re-theme might be pretty cool, I wouldn't like the idea of Derecho's name being changed. The name has history behind it... A derecho lightning storm delayed the opening, or something along those lines. And I'm fairly certain Derecho was supposed to have a patriotic theme when it was being built, until a derecho did something that impacted the ride... (What was it!!) Anyyywayyy... The park looks amazing, as usual. I'm hoping for a B&M stand-up, that seems 1995-esque. I'm thrilled to see what you will come up with next, CD5! coasterdude5
1995 17th Season The 17th season continues and we're hearing rumors that yet another attraction might close this year! As you know from yesterday's update, the swan boats did not open with the park and from the looks of it, they're not coming back. The question is... which attraction will get the axe? Some have said Scrambler will be the ride that is removed. Scrambler is one of the few rides remaining that opened with the park. The others are Charleston Railway, Parachute Falls, Indigo Plunge, and Monster Mash Hotel. Forgive me if I forgot any! The ride's line still gets pretty long, as seen here! Scrambler needs to stay. Harbortown still has some large gaps in it from what was removed after the hurricane. The area needs all the attractions it can get. Have a great day! - Joe Edited September 8, 2015 by coasterdude5
Six Flags Enthuseast
I would think Monster Mash would be going. Although Parachute Falls is a good candidate because it would make room for a newer Intamin Drop Tower. I just hope PF doesn't go, because I'm a big fan of those Parachute Drop towers. imawesome1124
^ That seems like the most likely thing to happen. And again like you said, it's a nice ride but I personally think a drop tower would be better.
GrabowskiEnterprises
This park is amazing, i really don't want to see PF or Monster Mash Hotel go because they give the park that retro feeling that so many of today's parks have lost. Keep up the good work.
