coastercub
OK So it was Preview Day event for Saw:The Ride.... Got to the park nice and early to find lots of various club members around so said hello and got my tickets... Most of the park was closed off today but it didn't matter as I was there for Saw.... So Saw:The Ride.... from the outside the ride looks great but it's inside where it shines... As you go in there is a long corridor which has some noise effects and a voice over from Saw himself (he also does some of the safety announcements too which is kinda funny). At the end of the corridor there is a cage.... in the cage is a masked person who is torturing another person... yes, live actors.... Torture device used is the one where the dude gets strapped in and has his limbs rotated till they snap and it is infact the actual device from the film !! After this you climb several flights of stairs... and past several body's caught in traps.. you get to the platform... ******Spoiler alert****** So once strapped in, the ride moves forward and turns to the right and stops (trains despatched in two's, first train misses part of the themeing though) if your in the second train it'll stop and to the right Billy will cycle towards you on his little red tricycle and start talking to you (Hard to tell what he's saying with all the other noise on the ride) after he's finished telling you about his game you continue forward and turn to the right again... infront of you is two giant axe's swinging right infront of you and underneath them is a sort of spike covered bored.... you lunge forward and drop under the axe's and spike board..... turn to the left and through a barage of crossbows which all fire at you (compressed air) at which point you brake and are then propelled up an incline and pushed down the next drop....(not a steep one) it drops down to the left and into the heartline roll... as your upside down in the heartline roll there is a dead body on the floor which them sprays it's blood at you... and out of the building you go... As you enter the brakes before the lift Billy appears on the two monitors and annouces that the Game is OVER and flickers off the screen !! So up the lift you go.... usual Eurofighter style... 100ft Up and 100 degree's straight down... into an immleman with a funny little twist at the bottom... then into an over banked turn to the left.... it then drops down and goes over a pretty damn good airtime hill which twist's slightly to the right just over the top and round to the left into the mid course brakes (which didn't seem to actually be switched on today) and down another pretty damn good drop with tons of ejector seat airtime and into a tiny dive loop with a bit of a pop... then back up into what can only be described as an overbanked turn into the brakes... If you like Mystery Mine and it's themeing then you'll LOVE this... It's a great ride and the themeing is superb. It's had some teething problems the last few days but today it was ALL running fine !! You think it's over but the games have just began...... And that was Saw:The Ride.... arty distant shot. Ok ok it was cloudy and dark !! And here it is.... TPR signiture shot... Loop through a loop !! Loopy baby !!! Under the blades they go... yes they do rotate Cresting the top !! Long way down !! The track round the back.... This is how we deal with queue jumpers in the UK. It's tough I know but ya gotta deal with it somehow !! Yep they are live actors getting tortured although she looked more asleep than anything ! This is the entrance to the ride itself... I think they did a nice job Saw:The Ride

adz823
I also went to the preview event today and must say the ride went beyond my expectations. The theming is incredible - from the various traps in the queueline to the *SPOILER* heartline roll over the bathroom famously seen in the films. Small things like bloody handprints on the disabled access lift and torn pieces of clothing in the barbed wire queue fence just made the ride more special. As for the ride itself, I found it to be so much shorter than anticipated. The indoor section was good - although if in 'Games 1 or 2' then you miss a whole load of pre ride spiel from Billy the doll. There were a few rough patches (i.e the bottom of the main drop) but other than that the ride was perfectly smooth. And I loved how there were CCTV cameras everywhere with tv screens, and every so often the puppet would come on and explain the game. Overall Thorpe Park have got a winner on their hands. Can't wait to see the queues for it during Fright Nights! Oh, and be careful of the shotgun in the queue.. thats all im saying!
SFNELover
Wow! Saw the ride looks like a great euro- fighter coaster!

vacoaster
Dark ride section included --- SPOILER I must say the ride is well timed out as well. When the car pulls up before the life right as Jigg Saw says "game over" right as he says over the car before falls as found after watching numerous you tube submissions. Also that blood shooting up is quite gross but cool. I wonder if they will tweak the ride slightly so that all riders get the spiel from jigg saw himself before heading into the axes. Also after watching several videos seems to me that most riders keep asking what the hissing sound is after the first mini drop. From the reports, they are cross bows but i wonder if everyone gets that... just curious. The ride is Sick!!!!!! is a good way!

Nrthwnd
My question is: does this coaster work, even if you have never seen a "Saw" movie? (Which I haven't.)
dr.gumbo
Thanks for the report, its nice to see a new English roller coaster worth riding.
RCFreak
Dude, thanks for the TR looks like a really cool ride. I'm not the biggest fan of the films (too much "fluff") but it look slike they got a good feeling from the movies onto the ride and squirting blood is always a plus on attractions (unless your Universal and like to soak your guests in the mazes...) adz823
My question is: does this coaster work, even if you have never seen a "Saw" movie? (Which I haven't.) Well, during the queue there are tv screens all over the place with CCTV Images on and after about 5 minutes a puppet comes on screen (famous in the films for delivering people's 'games') and he explains what your game will be. There is also a police car in the plaza, plus sound effects on the soundtrack saying "Officer down, officer down", so you possibly could be a police office trying to track down the killer when you in fact get involved in a game. But it's never 100% clear what the main storyline is - essentially there is a big trap you get included in it!
coastercub
My question is: does this coaster work, even if you have never seen a "Saw" movie? (Which I haven't.) Yes I would say the ride does work if you haven't seen the film... You may however miss the point of some of the theming but I think it would still stand on it's own and just a scary ride based around being tortured !! Just something else i forgot to mention... as you leave the ride there is a staircase that takes you out of the building. The stairs are covered in blood, there are more CCTV cameras and the voice of Jigsaw saying "You think it's over but the games have just began" and hanging from the ceiling is jigsaw's head in the scales as per the poster/dvd cover of Saw IV ! itstino
I was also in attendance yesterday for the comp winner's preview, and I must admit that I was VERY impressed with the ride and theme. Given that I haven't seen any of the films and am not a fan of horror movies, I think that they have got the mix just right. You can easily understand this ride if you haven't seen any of the films, but it also has enough elements to satisfy the most die hard fan as well. The idea behind the ride is that you have found an abandoned warehouse that Jigsaw is hiding in at Thorpe Park. You enter the grounds, snaking around the barbed wire and old traps before entering the warehouse. Once you have negoiated the indoor queue (I won't give too much away....) then you are 'strapped into your trap' and sent on your way.... The indoor part was a lot better than expected and is full of suprises and film references. Once you exit the building, you are stopped by two plasma tv screens and coutdown timer before you climb to the top of the hill. The outdoor coaster part is extremely smooth and flows really well, apart from the slight 'bump' at the bottom of the lift hill and extreme forces at the bottom of the dive loop. Anyway, on with the pics!
chauncey
i'm actually really surprised by this coaster! i hadn't really been following it at all, and wasn't expecting much from it — i've never even seen a Saw film, and a Eurofighter seemed like kind of an “insignificant” investment compared to some of the other coasters at Thorpe Park — but, i think it looks great! the layout looks pretty cool (but, so do all Eurofighters!), and the theming looks incredible! it kind of reminds me of Mystery Mine — i know a lot of smaller parks are buying Eurofighters because they can get a “major” coaster for relatively little money, but it seems like some larger parks are seeing the cost savings as a means to invest in more extensive theming, and it's making for some really interesting rides! i especially love the cool little pre-lift “dark ride" section — it's so much more impressive than the usual “boring turn out of the station”, and makes you feel like you're in for something special! i actually think it'd be kind of cool to see my home park of Busch Gardens Africa invest in something like that (can't you just hear the GP: “you means it's drop is even steeper than Sheikra? awesome!” — although, you might get some people noticing “yeah, but it only a 4 seater, so it can't be as good Sheikra, which is an 8 seater!” [no, seriously, i have heard people say that!]) — although, i'm not quite sure what they'd theme it to! actually, i do (since i'm dreaming and all): Questor II! oh, yeah: that has absolutely nothing to do with Saw, at all — you can just ignore me…
GeorgeT
Hi Chaunsey... Maybe it`s a littlebit off-topic...but me, I like postings like yours...because I learn more about the people of this community, and I think I understand what went through your head. And, at least it STILL has to do with rollercoasters ! Have a nice day... GeorgeT
