holyblakbelt
Awesome TR. I almost thought I was going to overdose on gators. I agree with you, gator is not that bad. Too bad the only time I get them is during Minnesota State Fair.
nursemelis374
I love those plastic mold animal machines! I remember the exact smell of the things that came from them!
thrillerman1
When I lived in NW Alabama we had a little hole in the wall Cajun restaurant that served awesome gator tail sandwiches. They were oh so delectable!
Mechanic
They also have a really cute and well done water play area. The gators must really enjoy this. There was a restaurant in Colfax, Calif. (a town in the Sierra Nevada mountains) that used to feature "gator steaks" every Wednesday. The joint was called Dirty Dingus McGee's. I've eaten there, and even ate some gator. Mine wasn't a steak though, they were nuggets similar to those pictured in the TR. As I recall, they were part of an appetizer sampler platter. Sadly Dingus McGee's (I don't ever remember the "Dirty" prefix being part of the restaurant name, but I could be mistaken) is no more. We pulled off on the frontage road to I-80 to stop in and have dinner about a year or so ago only to find the place overgrown with weeds and in a very dilapidated state. I was truly saddened because it was a great place to eat at one time. In any event, Gatorland certainly looks like a departure from more traditional theme park fare. I enjoyed the TR. BrownStreak
^^^^^^What I want to know...can you feed the turtles too? They are totally my favorite reptile and seeing them in that photo was the highlight of looking at your fun PTR!
SharkTums
Add me to the list of people totally eyeing the plastic mold machine!!! I last used one of those at MOSI in Tampa on a school fieldtrip a long time ago. I didn't even know they still existed, I must go and show Kristen! Oh, and the animals were cool too! disneyfan1313
LOL - the gators, turtles and birds all seemed to get along together. The only option to feed critters with is hot dogs... the turtles didn't seem to be interested. They do have some very large Galapagos turtles as well that I didn't get a pic of. I love the injection mold machine (is it plastic or wax?) the wording and the graphics on the machine make it look like its from a worlds fair in the 60's and at 2 bucks a pop its a great deal! Mickey_079
I remember seeing the exact same guy doing the "gator wrestling" when I did my everglades tour. It was fairly impressive, he even tough the crocodiles things which is far more impressive.
Guy T. Koepp
So Reed, did they cut off Stumpy's hand and fry it up right there for you? Mmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmmm! Good eats! Awesome TR! I love the picture of the bird Hunting Stacey down. Guy "Gotta Git me some Gator!" Koepp
DarkMeasures
I remember going to Gatorland. It was pretty cool. Though I don't remember having any gator feeding problems. But I also remember seeing some other guest hand feeding the alligators. Everyone was thinking he was going to get his hand bit off or something. BeemerBoy
Chalk me up as another Mold-A-Rama fan! The last one I remember getting was at Miami Metro Zoo back around 2000 or so. Google brought up some interesting stuff like this, and this, and even Disney apparently had some too. Yay for injected molded plastic!
mcjaco
^ Those mold machines are prevelant at both Chicago Zoos. They've been there for years, and still pump out those animals.

dandaman
There's always been at least four or five of those Mold-A-Rama machines at Henry Ford Museum / Greenfield Village near Detroit... I still probably have five wax Mickey Mouses (Mice?) and at least ten steam trains lying around somewhere. ...And since the place is only open during the warmer months, I totally just had a summer flashback. *checks calendar... says "January"* ...Dammit! cfc
I remember using one of those plastic-mold machines at Universal Studios Hollywood back in the 1970s--to make a little Frankenstein monster.
Guy T. Koepp
They had a whole bank of them at Marineland. Dolphin, Killer Whale, Otter, Seal. I would stand there for hours as kids made their toys just to inhale the sweet toxic smell of liquid plastiwax. Or whatever it was they used. Guy "Hmm! That explains a lot." alpengeist04
Gatorland is great. If they were to add an Intamin mega-lite coaster, it would be the best park in Florida. BTW, great TR.
tnguy
Oh man I love Gatorland. Florida has lots of great little attractions if you get sick of the big parks, and gatorland is my favorite. I also love Mold-a-Ramas. the zoo in Knoxville TN still has a bunch of them.
bengomez
Those plastic molded things are so great they look like real, the plastic industry is great in rapid prototype... _________________ Rapid Manufacturing
