QueerRudie Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Let's think about this for a brief second... 1.) a bailout would require spending on mechanical devices, just like the car industry... that money would be going to Europe and Asia, not the USA. 2.) It would also require money going to the 'stars' and 'directors' of such things...half of whom are NON us residents- Meaning even more money would go overseas.... 3.) If there is ANY need to bail out porn, it would be to 'improve' the writing and acting therein. That COULD be a good thing- we could get real actors in there- Such as (IMHO!) Jason Statham (in "Lock, Stock and TWO HUGE BARRELS") or George Clooney ("Ocean's 69.") Just my .02 worth-
Team Thriller Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 If Bill Clinton were still president this might not be perceived as a joke. LMAO! Best quote of the week! --James
dandaman Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Let's think about this for a brief second... 1.) a bailout would require spending on mechanical devices I didn't think sex toys would factor so much into the recession...
downunder Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 If Bill Clinton were still president this might not be perceived as a joke. I was thinking Bad Boy Billy could come in to broker a deal. Though I think Billy only likes chubby chaser porn.
FlyingScooter Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 LOL, a bail-out for porn... yeah, right, and my girlfriend will eventually find a bra that gives her more support... Not likely...
cathyJ Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I know I have friends in the adult industry, but if I was in charge, the answer would still be NO. They get enough stimulus packages when they aren't on the clock. But I guess congress needs a good laugh. Only way they could get a meeting with congress is if they are blackmailing them... you know how those politicians get! Besides some people I know has "businesses" that isn't um... legal to get any support anyway. One girl had to sell her car to make the mortgage... but that's more of the mortgage crisis than anything else. Business is down a bit though but people are having it a lot tougher than people (like the owners of the film companies and websites exploiting and making money off of performers. I will say that I was quite shocked to find out what some straight men would do for money! Terry Like you I have friends who "are in the biz" as well. And they have told me the same thing..that the business is down a bit but from what they told me it really isn't the recession why that is. Rather its a case of ppolitics and changing attitudes. For example Maxim Magazine is doing quite well and their demographic is about the same as Playboy, Hustler and the others...however Maxim doesn't show women in the all-together. It seems to work for them and of course the other areas in the adult entertainment business has noticed that. Recently I heard on a local radio station here that a local owner of those "gentlemen's clubs"..OK..nudie bars. Well I should say "former" nudie bars since those bars no longer feature nude women but now they feature them in bikinis..and their business actually increased as a result. Now with politics...the gay marriage debate I have been told has really hurt gay porn. One of my best friends, last year he did a gay porn flick only to get over 2000 hate emails because of his role in the movie and not from those one would expect who would send such things such as the right wing religious folks like the Fred Phelps types ( well he did receive a few emals from Exodus International but that was....well weird ), but 98% of those hate emails came from other gay men across the nation who really believe that their chances of getting married legally are damaged by..gay porn. Hmmmmmmmm.
ebl Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Porn industry bailout = FAIL out. Too much bailing out going on. I figured that the government could have given each of the approximately 300 million Americans about $2300 for the same price as the $700 billion bailout to the banks/real estate. Who do you think can use it more? Eric
terrancew_hod Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Now with politics...the gay marriage debate I have been told has really hurt gay porn. Hmmmmmmmm. Now how would 2000 gay people know how about his movie, much less get an actor's email address... then send in hate mail? Besides the emails should go to the company owners, not the actors... I think they really exploit the actors that work for them. One major company offers about $3000-4000 per movie, which to them may be a lot, but consider a DVD may set you back $70, the owners are making a boatload of money. If you think if you just get 1000 people to buy a DVD and hire 7 actors, you're still making a huge profit if you put out 5 DVDs a year. Those actors can't make a good living off of that amount, unless you're like one of my friends that has a lifetime contract with one of the companies and has appeared in a few low budget movies of his porn rep.. Gay porn didn't hurt it, it probably was because these people don't contribute (political active, vote, contribute money, etc.) to any cause, they just complain. The ones that sent the emails may be some of the people that look at it, to be honest. The organization where I volunteer raises money through different circuit parties and events because, to be honest, if we just asked for donations we wouldn't get them. Unfortunately a lot of people just volunteer for the parties, and I usually volunteer year round... so I get a lot of calls for help. Also, there is probably a need to have some positive role models in the public to dispel stereotypes, particularly people not in the entertainment industry... kind of like what I hope Barak Obama will do. Attitudes tend to change when you have someone visible that you can see is very similar to yourself. Finally as a group, I think gays don't have their act together and is divided. I don't think we can or should get marriage equality until we get this together! I see it in racial attitudes, group (Leather, transexual, drag, etc.) and between men and women... I went to a lesbian bar to meet some friends from out of town and the bouncer gave me a hard time about going in since I was a guy. I had to give her a good lecture about how our community is divided bringing up the marriage amendments that got passed and she had her head down (she didn't even let me finish).. then she let me in.
