I was wondering what other people thought of videos where the person filming/being filmed talks you through the ride, such as: "Okay, here comes the 120-foot drop! Whoo! And now we're going through the Vertical Loop! Into an overbanked turn...", etc.

Most of the time, this is done in a professional video promotion of the ride, although there are some amateur videos that do that.

I kind of like onride commentary, it gives newbies a lot of info about a ride layout and it's interesting to hear some of the comments made by some of the people who do it.

I know there are some people out there who find these kinds of videos very annoying, though.

It depends on who's commentating it. If it's someone like Robb or Elissa then that's cool. But some soccer mom that the Travel Channel crew grabbed from the midway probably won't be too great.

Generally, I'm not a fan of "play-by-play" commentary during the POV. However, I do find a big difference between the "play-by-play" commentary and a person's reactions during the ride. I enjoy hearing reactions on the POVs much, much more than a monotonous run-through of the elements. It gives me a better idea of how the actual experience of the ride is, not just the layout. Prime example would be Robb's Manhattan Express POV. I learned more about that ride from Robb's reactions than I ever could from a commentary.

"Oh, holy an*l-sex-sheep-s**t-f**king-monkey-bastard s**t..."

I'm not a fan either. It's obvious what's happening in the video, and more often then not, the commentator is so excited just being on the ride, they kinda sound idiotic. But I also agree with the above that I love hearing natural reaction to a ride. (screams, swearing, etc... LOL)

I like the ambient noise as well as opposed to commentary. Like DenDen said above, some of the people sound really dumb! I always remember those Discovery Channel coaster shows. Half the time the person would be like "oooohhh! heres the high G helix!! The best par...uuuuwaaaahhahhahahaaaaaaaahhhhgggggggh -art!!!!!!!!!!!"

I do not like people who have no clue what they're talking about do the POVs. I'd rather duct tape their mouths and then make them ride it. If I want to see one of those shows, I'd rather have park personnel or guys like Robb or Elissa do them. At least they would know what they're doing.

I honestly don't care, one way or the other.

IMO, a POV is a POV... all of them rock!

I like them when they are funny. Like Rob's Manhatten Express Pov is classic. Especially after the dive loop. "Why F*** is that the smoothest part of the ride?" Makes me laugh everytime.

I don't even think any of our commentaries are really "commentary", they are just people riding and saying whatever comes to mind...usually with a lot of profanity!

I don't think I've ever done a scripted commentary unless it was for a Discovery show and I don't think I ever would otherwise.

^And that's the beauty of them...they show exactly what the ride experience truly is, not what it's supposed to be or made out to be.

I might even enjoy your POVs with comments more than a silent one, just because I can't tell how enjoyable/smooth/intense/fun the ride is without your eloquent Tourette's interjections . And they easily beat out a review of the layout. Even something as simple as "Holy crap, this ride is good" (Pyrenees) is more effective for me than any play-by-play guy who feigns enjoyments no matter what.

Basically, your POVs are genuine. Genuine is good.

They are genuine which I like. I aslo laughed when I watched you Expedition G-Force reverse pov. On the bunny hills when you keep looking back and yelling "WHOOA!!!". Lmao so classic.

I'm a fan of some of Robb's POVs too, like the Manhattan Express one, and the Ravine Flyer II with the "NINETY DEGREES!" (don't forget the Eejanaika POV either). For this poll I was referring more to a play-by-play style, like this Griffon POV from ThemeParkInsider. I do kind of like the sound he makes on the first drop though.

I personaly don't like it what so ever as you normally find weird annoying people doing them. If it was Robb or Elisa, I don't think it would annoy me as they know they're stuff and also, they're a familliar face. Other than that, no, I hate it!
