Thanks. The pics are going to be real good tonight or next Friday. I have to have a set made of solid granite to go out tonight though. It's extremely windy and cold right now.

Posted

Ok, I grew a set and braved the ridiculous cold and wind tonight. I have plenty of pics to share.

Lights

The lights were excellent, with Coyote Creek being the best. Main Street was also very good. Movie Town was great in the front, but a little more could have been done more towards the back.

The Mardi Gras area was just right. Chesapeake was just OK, and so was the light show in that area. Wasn't as good as the tree light show at GAdv last year, but was OK. Hey, there were fire pits at the light show, so I'm not complaining. I don't think Chesapeake is a very good area for HITP. Just not made right. I can't explain it.

They used a heavy dose of flood lighting in many areas, and it worked well. I could go on and on about the lights, but I'll let my pics do most of the talking.

Props

The props were great, nuff said really. They even had the train in station (See Pics). The smells of gingerbread, mocha, peppermint, and pine were powerful.

Rides

Ok, Wild One and Roar were made for the cold. I honestly believe that. I have ridden The Wild One since 1986, and have never noticed it so quick, and pretty smooth (relative) actually. If there are any Wild One vets that ride this winter, let me know what you think. Maybe the cold got to my head By the way, looking down on the park on Wild One was great at night. I've always known ROAR to be strong in the cold, because of trips to FF, so it didn't surprise me. Didn't go on Mind Eraser; it locked up after the final element. I know those people were both cold and mad as hell. Ragin and the drop tower were closed; too windy. I didn't go on Apocalypse, because it's Apocalypse.

Shows

It's Six Flags America (only park on the planet to have 3 years in a row of nominations in the brass ring awards..lol) so the shows were good. Though, I'll admit, it looks like the Mardi Gras show was kind of thrown together. It was a minimized version of Party Gras with Christmas music. The stunt show wasn't over the top goofy, and had some pretty good action and an OK plot. The Scrooge character was funny to me, and would go back just to laugh at him. Jingle Jam was a pretty cool show. Winter Rock was good, especially since it was indoors..lol..I missed the kids show and Home for the Holidays. I'll check those out on Friday. All the shows that I saw except for the Mardi Gras one are worth a re-watch.

Food

I didn't have anything different than normal, though I broke a record for drinking hot chocolate. Lines moved very fast for once in SFA's history.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this as I knew that I would. Had a great time at GAdv last year. Better weather wound have equalled a better time for sure, so I can't wait to go again on Friday. Want my advice? Go at about 430, maybe 5. You WILL get everything in more than once. Taking Gotham out of the equation really shrunk the place. You'll see.

Remember that I posted the first part of the report earlier. The Santa experience was the best I've ever seen and/or heard of. Enjoy the pics.

Six Flags: Our lighting packages may be pathetic during the summer, but we make up for it during Christmas!

I was actually almost annoyed by this yesterday. At Great Adventure, every single coaster except for Superman and Green Lantern are pitch black and the park is ridiculously dark at night. Oak Island (the Holiday in the Park contractor) brought in ONE LIGHT and pointed it at Joker and it made the entire thing look amazing. One stupid light... the fact that they showed how easy it was just made the entire thing seem even more ridiculous because we all know that as soon as Holiday in the Park is over you won't be able to see the ride at night until next November.

Anyway, awesome photos. I'm really looking forward to going to the SFA event.

I hear you on that one light! That's what I was getting at about the flood lights they used, and how well they worked.

Went on Sunday and oh my goodness. I LOVED HOLIDAY IN THE PARK! So much fun and the whole experience was great. Went for rope-drop and stayed till around 5pm. First up, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were out meeting on Main Street, so I got a pic with them and went on my way. Took a ride on the Cocoa Mixer, Peppermint Swirl, and Roar before taking a break to see some shows. No lines for the rides THE WHOLE DAY. Only wait was if you wanted to wait for a specific seat, or til the train came back from it's course (only running one train on the rides).

The Stunt Show was funny and Home for the Holidays was so well done for an amusement park show. Really tugged at my heartstrings and made me tear up!

The Hot Cocoa was decent and I had the Ham dinner from the Saloon which was mediocre. After lunch, I went and rode Reindeer Flight, Wild One, The Flying Swings and the Carousel.

Def reccomend coming and seeing the beautiful park!!!

Yeah, it was terrible cold on Sunday. Still got in plenty of pics (see previous page).

I second that . . . . I was there on Sunday, I left around 7 pm (it was getting too cold for me)

HITP is really looking great! Also, Thanks for sharing the Wonder Woman Plans. Its nice to see a clear indication as to where it is going to be located.

How were crowds yesterday? I'm really hoping all of these events are a success. I would have expected them to be light yesterday due to weather but this weekend should be a good indicator.

Posted (edited)

Last week's crowds were very light last weekend thanks to the insane cold and wind. Yesterday was light also, though seemed to have a decent amount of people when going to the shows. In other other words, the shows drew everyone that was there at the time. Lines for all of the rides were non-existent. Will be going again today..lol..My daughters friend is finishing her bday weekend with Six Flags. I'll let u all know about the crowds.

Talked to someone there that checked out the Hershey one. Said that she liked the SFA one a little better because most of the park was closed off, if that makes any sense; likes the small park feel. Liked the shows better here too, but that's not a surprise. If there is anything that I do not like about our HITP, is that it's all over too quick. Well planned out, the event can be done in less than 3 hours (that includes the awesome Santa experience, which can take time with staying in line, and the mini production inside the house). A little less time if you do not need to do the kid's section.

Forgot to add in my last post, that you'll get the best 'aerial' view of the park on The Wild One. The drop tower if you are sitting in the right seat. By the way, again, Wild One and Roar are running superbly. Wild One sounds funny at times, but is rolling!

Yeah, let's hope they also spruce the rest of the section up with it. I'm looking forward to next year!

To be fair, isn't that typical of the park every day?

If shows are crowded, family rides are crowded and stores / food locations are crowded that's all that really matters though. The focus shifts away from thrills a little for these events so hopefully they do some solid numbers and they're just dispersed a little differently.

Lol,..yup, even though I at least have a 5 minute station wait..lol..Supposed to be nice today. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Oh, someone dropped the ball at Apocalypse. The music there is still going. The music is great, yes, but throws off the Rudolph song playing throughout the section..juuusttt a little bit.

Heading to the park tonight around 6 for the last 2 hours. Hopefully crowds won't be too bad. Heard a rumor a local celeb will be at the park promoting it tonight so I want to see if I can spot him

(Hint hint, he was a local athlete who's name rhymes with Sal Bipkin Munior)

Wonder Woman plans. Does that say 'shade' structure? Someone was thinking. No burning up in line FTW.

The "Shade Structure" also serves as protection from falling objects for those in the queue. The park's lawyers like that.
