ginzo Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 http://www.pki.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=160 I can't believe they actually changed DROP ZONE.....to DROP TOWER. This is f*cking rediculous....other names are available...Hellivator is open! F*ck you Cedar Fair! Slow down there ace. With as much as CF has changed their mind lately this name could change. Besides, we've got FLIGHT DECK. What else do we need?
PKI Jizzman Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I don't think Flight Deck is -that- bad of a name....I really don't like the Crypt and Backlot Coaster.....but now they are making Drop Zone look like crap. Couldn't they use Giant Drop or something?
Gnome Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 They just came up with both Renegade and Maverick. Four of my top five coasters are at Cedar Fair parks. Theming shouldn't matter if the ride itself is good. Worlds of Fun has really delicious sandwiches priced fairly (compared to $25 for second-rate pizza at Six Flags). IMO, Cedar Fair parks have wonderful atmospheres. They feel like amusement parks, not like parking lots (if you want sterile, go to Kentucky Kingdom). See I beg to differ. Either they were watching Team America when they came up with the name's Renegade and Maverick, or they came up with one idea and they found synanyms for it. One name on it's own would have been all right, but using both kind of made me scratch my head. I mean sure, they're not bad names, but using both just shows a lack of creativity for me. I don't think that a ride really needs "theming" but the ride should have some kind of presentation to it. It shouldn't be just generic archetecture structure akwardly placed in the middle of a giant concrete forest. learn from Sea World and the Bush Parks. Their stations are not spectacularly detailed, but they are well placed and brought to a level beyond generic. It gives the surrounding area a homey and interesting enviornment. Sure, maybe the ride doesn't need the theming, but you're experiencing all that before and after the actual ride, and it helps you enjoy your day even after you step off the unloading platform, and that's really something that CF doesn't get, and it appears that SF is trying to work harder to get to.
Philrad71 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Just visualize the "Ride Re-namer" presenting this in Powerpoint to wow his/her boss in the weekly meeting... "Ladies and gentlemen, the moment that you have all been waiting for....the new name for our Kings Island drop ride is (insert drum roll) Drop Towwwwerrrrr!!!" Maybe CF just figured that everyone would make fun so much of the name that they just didn't see the point in wasting their time coming up with something "kewl" sounding.
hemmy Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Who really cares what a ride is named? Maybe I am in the minority but I have never factored in the name of a ride into how much I enjoyed a park.
kraken613 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 They are getting talked about more than if they had come up with decent names! I bet if they were normal we wouldnt have this long thread!
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 A lot of people have said that if the ride is good, it doesn't really matter. For me, a crappy name takes away from the whole package, just like lack of or no theming. All those elements and a few others have to balance in order for me to really like something. If one element is a bit off, fine, but a bad name just takes away. Ultimately, to each their own on what makes a ride appealing. Nothing wrong with differing views.
WillMontu Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I think we should give Cedar Fair a hand and help them name their other rides Viking Fury -> Swinging ship Congo Falls -> Boat Ride Adventure Express -> Adventure Scooby-Doo™ and the Haunted Castle -> Shooting ride Delirium -> Swing Flight of Fear -> Launching Coaster Vortex -> Six Loop Coaster
coolhandluke Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 ^To add on... Beast-->ACE Coaster Son of Beast-->World's Tallest Pile of Wood Firehawk--?Firehawkhawk Racer can stay as it is...
SFMMlover Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Yeah I heard a new rename Crypt and Flight Deck that sound better.
upside down Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 All these names sound like something translated from japanese. Heres a good one Drop zone - down fall (of cedar fair)
us4member3 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Did anyone notice that on Kings Island's website it says Drop Zone and Drop Tower numerous times. (On the Thrill Rides page and the Drop Tower ride page.)
XII Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I think we should give Cedar Fair a hand and help them name their other rides Flight of Fear -> Launching Coaster That's not specific enough.Flight of Fear->Rollercoaster in a box Much Better
