stuffandnonsense Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Found this on ebay....... http://cgi.ebay.com/Cedar-Point-Banshee_W0QQitemZ160179385600QQihZ006QQcategoryZ13878QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Pretty cool....
ParkTrips Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 It would get more money if it were an XXXL. The market for an XL enthusiast just isn't big enough. btw did you really "find" this or is this your listing?
rosscoe Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I will go with his listing. Off topic what was the uproar over the name about?
mightypotato Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I will go with his listing. Off topic what was the uproar over the name about? Something about Banshees being demonic or related to death or something stupid like that. Cedar Fair took the politically correct route with the name. Banshee would have been better than Mantis, IMO.

Coasterlvr_nc Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Thats pretty neat! I never knew mantis was going to be called banshee, but i guess you learn something new everyday.
Wes Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 You should do a hi-res scan of that then vectorize it, screen print it, and sell some in other sizes.
King of Ka Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 ^Now that's a good idea. I get the feeling this person just wanted to advertise their shirt though, so I doubt they'll ever read that.
stuffandnonsense Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 I read it..but I wouldn't do that.
Angry_Gumball Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 On the topic of Banshee, it would totally suck if suddenly Demon's name got changed to something else as Demons are along the same lines as Banshees.
Coasterlvr_nc Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 lets just name it Religion: the ride.
jedimaster1227 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 ^^I'm guessing Demon has been there long enough that it hasn't been an issue so far. If they had ever considered changing it for the above reason, they probably would have done it by now. But, the changes I keep seeing in the latest TRs of The Demon as The Emo do make me wonder...
saxman47 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Thats pretty neat! I never knew mantis was going to be called banshee, but i guess you learn something new everyday. yup, and they used that logo for steel force instead a year later
alpengeist04 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I will go with his listing. Off topic what was the uproar over the name about? Something about Banshees being demonic or related to death or something stupid like that. Cedar Fair took the politically correct route with the name. Banshee would have been better than Mantis, IMO. What does VooDoo represent then? It looks like evil possession to me. I guess the politically correct route is out the window now.
sixflagsguy5 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Maybe they should just get a huge sign outside of the ride that says "if you find things offensive then get the heck outta here." I got my Rollercoaster! magazine in the mail a few days ago and it has an article about stand up coasters. There's a thing about Banshee in there.
matteocrepaldi Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Awesome!!! I'll keep an eye on it!!! Looks so cool!
verticalzero Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Banshee means: a banshee wails around a house if someone in the house is about to die. Legend has it that, for five great Gaelic families: the O'Gradys, the O'Neills, the O'Briens, the O'Connors, and the Kavanaghs, the lament would be sung by a fairy woman; having foresight, she would appear before the death and keen. When several banshees appeared at once, it indicated the death of someone great or holy.
CycloneMan Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 So wait...the name Banshee was a problem? But Demon Drop ws okay? -Dainan " " Rafferty
KrakenKing Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 No, the ride was renamed "Mantis" because of a feminist group. They stated that the word "Banshee" was demeaning, because it's definition is a woman who wails around when someone is about to die. I forgot the feminist group that was going to file a lawsuit towards Cedar Point if the name wasn't changed.
verticalzero Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I managed to bid for the T-Shirt for something like $40 which is £25. If I go back to Cedar Point, i'll be wearing it. Wonder if someone would complain. I take a Small / Medium size t-shirts so an XL will be super massive on me..
matteocrepaldi Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I wanted to buy it but it was a little too much for me.
vistaway Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Hey, I think I still have one of those shirts. They sold them to attendees of Coaster Mania that year.
