I Like Theme Parks.
I had a great day at the park! First we got Mack's of course, then we went on some rides from 2-4. This Oktoberfest thing is really cool. The live german music was fun, and the food was great. I was with my dad and my friend, and we split up a pumpkin funnel cake and an apple caramel funnel cake. They were absolutely incredible!!! The pumpkin one tasted like a deep-fried pumpkin muffin, and the apple one was covered in caramel, and it had these amazing fresh crunchy apple slices. I hope this becomes an annual thing. The workers were really nice, and the slow operations didn't matter since there were no lines. But it was more crowded than I expected, and some workers said it was packed yesterday. So this was a short trip, but it was awesome. The perfect weather also made it great. Rides: Great White x 4 - front twice, back twice - It was running great today! Great lateral forces like always, and the airtime hills near the end aren't extreme or anything, but you really come out of your seat every time! And it's still just as smooth as it was this Spring and this summer. Screamin' Swing Sea Serpent - back row - One of the smoothest rides on it yet. Since it's consistently comfortable in every row, the back will be my default now since the backwards loop is so forceful in the back. boldikus
Here's some more pictures from this weekend. Rather grey day Saturday but with Irish Weekend festivities, the classic car show on the boardwalk and Moreys Oktoberfest going on the crowds on the boards were thick but as usual the rides had no lines at all. Saturday night I rode Great White repeatedly until they kicked me off. Weird to see Surfside Pier completely dark on Saturday night. The $25 wristband was a great deal and got me rides on: Sea Serpent x1 Waveswinger x1 Ripride x1 Rollies 1x (I was drunk, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) Screaming Swing x4 The Great White 19x Arrived Saturday to heavy crowds for the car show I don't care about cars too much but my Dads into it And some of them are really pretty My folks and I checked out Jumbos (at the front of Mariners Pier) where Moreys was doing the Oktoberfest Some closeups of the menus Everything we had was delicious. Bratwurst with pickle and chips Decorated for the festivities We got flights First drunken ride: Americas oldest boomerang. They had a second beer garden set up in the back with live bands under Sea Serpents spikes It came in handy... after a spin on Rollies :/ Don't judge me. Moar Beer The Great White while boarding RipTide My lap on Waveswinger was a blast 6 consecutive laps in the afternoon Capped off with a peanut butter cup blizzard After a break at my folks, back for night rides Another 13 laps in the last 2 hours of the night. Walkon over and over and over... Go-karts seemed very popular A bat got into the control booth, should have gotten video of these ops trying to get it out of there. Hilarious. Entire station cheered when they succeeded and got the ride back up. Last weekend of the trams so got a ride in on my way home Sunday much nicer with the sun out. Moreys had the Oktoberfest music at the front of the pier Cant wait to see what next year brings.
coasterbill
Rollies is worth riding with a wristband. For a minute I thought you actually paid for it, I was about to laugh my ass off and rip you for it all weekend.
boldikus
Forgot to mention I ordered two flights at Jumbos. First (Munich-Cape May, my mom had the Fall) came right out, sucked them down in no time. Food came, and I ordered 2nd flight (American). Didn't come out, waitress kept apologizing. Was done my food before it finally did then when we got the check she didnt charge me for it which I thought was awesome.

boldikus
Update via Screamscape this morning via a local who sent in pics. Meanwhile I have been asking my mother to take pics since she works 5 minutes from the pier... and nada. LOL Anyways, new supports on site (since they are painting a bunch I am guessing they are just replacing some of the supports) and painting has commenced. We're going with a... deep blue and teal. :/ Not sure how I feel about the colors. Could be cool or could be terrible depending on the color of the track and trains. Excited to see some work being done though. All photos from Screamscape

deguy123
I really hope this ride improves because I PROMISED my back, I'd never ride it again!
A.J.
Looks like they're going with a teal to dark blue color gradient from northwest to southeast. Looks pretty good.
boldikus
I can't totally hate the colors, because anything is better than the original paint job.
Greatescapelover
Yeah the original color scheme was pretty terrible. Too bad it pretty much still exists on T3 LOL. I like the different shades of blue- it will definitely pop more but I think the track color will really make or break the ride. Would be cool to maybe even see some different colored track pieces to match the colors of the different support sections- but there's probably not many that would agree with me though I hope Baynum is ready to do some intense touch ups after the track is removed and the new track is installed. No way that shiny paint will make it through track installation in such tight quarters.

boldikus
Moreys just posted this on their FB/Instagram. Nothing earth shattering but the paint looks great against the sky. Also, big crane is in use so we'll probably be seeing track removal/replacement soon.
Jcoaster
Wait so theyre using the coat hanger track? I thought they'd be using this:
boldikus
Yeah thats what I was hoping for too. Once I saw the new track pieces I lost a little hope for a "much improved ride" but I guess we'll have to wait til spring to find out. Obviously with the old supports staying there can't be too much change in the profile of the ride, but there are a handful of new supports so we could see some sections changed a little bit. Anyway you cut it, the track definitely needed to be replaced. You can see how badly rotting away some of it was from Robbs video shot years ago. coasterbill
My thought is that if they're investing this type of money they must be pretty confident that this will improve the ride experience but I have to admit, I'm pretty skeptical too. Jcoaster
I was confident until I saw the photos of the coat hangers lol.
Greatescapelover
Do you guys mean coat hanger track by the fact that the connection to the supports is in the middle of the new track like that? Sorry, I'm not up on the coaster track lingo Not to shy away from Great Nor'Easter's construction but when I rode The Great White this summer, I thought the trains rode pretty bad over the new tracked sections. You could tell the old from the new and we still had a great ride (much better than in years past), but man those trains seem to rattle and vibrate more and more as the years go on. boldikus
I rode Great White dozens of times this year, and every year since its been open. Its running incredibly this year compared to before the track work. If I had a dollar for anytime someone complained a wooden coaster was too rough... coasterbill
^ Agreed. I couldn't believe how much fun Great White was. My main takeaway from the weekend was shock at why people never talk about Great White. It's a really solid ride and you never hear anything about it. boldikus
Like Ive said before its because two of their three major coasters are a Boomerang (albeit Americas first, and still runs well considering) and an SLC thats so crappy they are spending 4 mil to completely re-haul it. Because of this, enthusiasts discredit Moreys and therefore Great White. Nevermind the clean piers, detailed themeing & lighting packages, great flats, awesome flume, mostly solid operations, amazing boardwalk food, the giant free beach it sits on, that you can eat a gourmet breakfast on their ferris wheel(!!!), etc etc etc. And thats fine because it means I get it all to myself. I don't have a huge woodie count but even before the track work I ranked it highly, now even moreso.
coasterbill
Yeah I actually liked Sea Serpant a lot but I'd argue that Flitzer is their second best coaster. Love that thing...
