I figured that would be the hardest obstacle; plus my name isn't hardly out there.
Mr.Six Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I'm no expert on the subject; but the fact that your 16 years old isn't your biggest problem. I have a few friends who are a few years older than you who get emails by parks and get permission. Your problem is that your name isn't out there. My advice is to get a "real" website. Don't make forums or anything, just start an archive like site. Post trip reports on it and such. Then as the years go on (yes it will probably take years and years) maybe your name will become popular and your site will get a good number of hits. Just my advice. _six

Â You all have to remember that I've been working in the entertainment business for the past 20 years, and in order to get a park's attention, you NEED to have something to offer and you HAVE to present yourself in a very professional manner. Â For example, we send out media kits with tchotchkes & DVDs every year to make our presence to the parks known. You need to spend some significant money on "site promotion" both with your readers and the parks. One hand helps the other. When parks notice you, your members notice you, and vice versa. Â And what we offer is a good online presence. Parks can see that we have over 8,000 members and are listed high on the Alexa ratings. And they can see that when you do a search for "Theme Park Videos" on google.com we're one of the first to come up. Â It's not just about emailing or contacting the park, you HAVE to be able to offer a certain amount of exposure for them to let you come in and film. Â Some of our videos have now been downloaded more than 500,000 times. Which for sites like "ebaum's world" isn't very much, but for a roller coaster site, that's HUGE! Â And the other thing to remember is giving a PR escort actually costs the park money if you consider that you are taking up time from both the PR office and whatever the cost would be to open the ride for you early before a park opens. They aren't going to do that for anyone. Heck, we didn't start getting that treatment until about a year or so ago. You need to build up those relationships and that presence. And it doesn't happen overnight. Building that up can take a LONG time. It's taken us 10 years! Â I hope this helps you all to understand the process a bit better. Â --Robb

If I were a park, I would take your request as a joke. No one wants to help someone out who violates park rules to begin with. Â Take down those photos and I'd bet you'll have a greater chance for success. Â Sorry if that sounded harsh, it is intended to be helpful.

I got caught with it on Thunderbolt at SFNE, and all I got was a nice reminder that I shouldn't bring loose dtuff on rides. I had the camera bag inside my coat and the ride op saw my strap. Oh well! I had a great POV of Yankee Cannonball but it got deleted by mistake! Â Here is my motto: Never ask for permission, just do it. You can always say that you didn't know it wasn't allowed.
