^Brave was Pixar getting more "Disney-fied" by doing their version of a "Princess" movie. It didn't really work (at least not for me), and it pales in comparison with Pixar's best (The Incredibles, Wall-E, and Up). It was better than Cars 2, though.

It also pales in comparison to recent Disney Princess efforts like Tangled and The Princess and the Frog. Tangled, in my opinion, was an especially strong step in the right direction for Disney Animation.

AH okokok I see what you guys mean, yeah that doesn't sound very Pixar-y if you'd like to put it that way

I loved Finding Nemo! One of my favorite animated movies of all time (up there with Rango, Wreck-It-Ralph, and the Toy Story films). I couldn't be happier with Pixar making a sequel but my qustion is what the story will be based off this time.

I just don't understand how you can make a Finding Nemo 2. Is he going to get lost again?

Exactly probably this time the story will be based off finding the fish that escaped from that one dentist's aquarium? They did end up in the sea at the end of the first movie...

A few of us saw the new Oz movie at Disney last weekend.

First off, Robb and I HATE The Wizard of Oz, so we weren't really looking forward to this or had done any research about it.

We were pleasantly surprised to find out It's Army of Darkness for Kids!!!!! Seriously, Sam Raimi basically remade Army of Darkness for kids!!!! There were some scenes that were exact remakes of the original, and when Bruce Campbell showed up in the movie I almost died!

Pretty cool, if you're an Oz or Army of Darkness fan definitely go see it!

^"Listen up, you prehistoric screw heads!"

Were there some Three Stooges-like eye pokes and slaps? Hey, if it's Army of Darkness in Oz, that's OK by me.

I have been excited for this Oz movie for well over a year. I am not really a fan of the original because its too goody two shoes for me but this one looks definitely more interesting with what the story line seems to be about.

I decided to check out Skyline today. From a distance, I really enjoy the alien subgenre of science fiction. There's just something about forces beyond our understanding wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting human race that promotes thinking about just how one would survive an unexpected attack. That being said.....the genre has been in the crapper lately. I haven't seen an alien invasion movie in the theater since Battle: Los Angeles*, which I still think was one of the worst movies of 2011. Still, I was hoping that Skyline had a lick of hope, too bad it was still pretty disappointing. All the actors were very bland and the characters were so uninteresting. The build-up to the invasion was so confusing that I had to take a moment to look up the movie on Wikipedia just to figure out who the characters were, how they relate to each other, and why I should care about them.

I will give Skyline this, for about 11 million dollars, the effects look decent for the most part. I thought that the aliens and the spaceships looked cooler than the very disappointing designs in Battle: Los Angeles. The score was also pretty good. But really, those are the only good things I can say about this movie (though the giant monster stepping on that car was admittedly bad@$$). You know who is going to be killed off from the get-go, the women in this movie are painfully useless, and the ending is just downright stupid. I can appreciate the directors completely funding the movie, but unfortunately, special effects do not automatically make a movie good.

*EDIT: I just remembered, I saw Cowboys & Aliens in theaters. I didn't think it was bad per se, but it was so forgettable that I forgot I had even watched it...twice...

Yeah, for 11 million it wasn't terribly bad, but that ending really was horrible.

Saw a few movies recently. Identity Thief - Some funny parts, but generally didn't like it. I don't like the chick in it, and Jason Bateman plays the exact same character as always. Warm Bodies - thought it was a really good movie. A unique take on the zombie movie. Now I need to read the book. A Good Day To Die Hard - It was ok. Too similar to all the others. Lots of good action scenes, but I thought the story was a little bland.

Since my wife is gone for a couple of nights I'm taking the opportunity to watch some movies that she never wants to watch.

Yesterday I watched Gangs of New York and Monty Python's Life of Brian. On the list for today is The Da Vinci Code and The Godfather 1 and 2.

Saw Jack the Giant Slayer today. It was actually fairly entertaining. I think that the giants were pretty poorly animated compared to what else we're seeing these days. I also that Stanley Tucci's role was too underplayed and would have liked to see more. All in all, it's worth checking out. The 3D was pretty impressive on this one.

^Was it too scary or gory for a little kid? For some reason, Kristen REALLY wants to see it and stops whatever she's doing whenever a commercial for it comes on!

I saw quite a few movies this weekend.

Jack the giant slayer. I mean it was enjoyable but it just wasn't my type of movie. The 3D was alright but if I were you I wouldn't pay the extra dollars for it. And as far as children, Its pretty violent (no blood though) If the kid can't truly separate fantasy from reality, then I wouldn't take them. (a lot of things get eaten by the giants)

The last exorcism 2, the sequel nobody asked for. It started off okay but then it turned into a jump scare fest then ended with HORRIBLE CGI. Seriously, I've seen better in Syfy movies. I don't recommend at all, just wait for it to come on MTV.

And I rented Argo and honestly after watching it I'm highly upset it won best picture. I mean it was good but very overrated. I believe the only reason it won was because Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for best director. I wish Zero dark thirty had won. (Jessica Chastain for president)

On Wednesday my theater is having a screening of Oz the great and powerful and Dead man down. Not sure which one I want to see yet.

^ I loved the first Last Exorcism. I actually just watched it again the other day. I love how it supposed to be a documentary. If your saying the CGI is that bad than I will wait till it goes to the $4.00 movie theater.

You say Argo is overrated? I never seen it and probably never will - not my type of movie. I never like movies that that are nominated for Oacars. Just not into artsy or movies about war or period movies. I will stick with my horror and chick flicks. I felt the way about Silver Linings Playbook. I saw it because I like romantic comedies and I actually really like Jennifer Lawrence. I am just not sure why it got so much praise. To me it was just another romantic comedy and you can really tell the age difference in Jennifer and Bradley and to me it just looked funny.

Saw Safe Haven this weekend. Definitely one of the better movies they made from a Nicholas Sparks book.

Speaking of horror films I feel EXTREMELY dumb for not knowing they were making a Evil dead movie. I need to come from under my rock more often.

They played the red band trailer when I went to go see the Last Exorcism (which was a PG-13 movie). And there were a lot of young children in there. Anyway, I thought it looked amazing and I really like the idea of no ash, cause you and I know if they had an ash characters everyone would complain about how bad he was and how he's nothing compared to Bruce. So I think it would be best to just leave ash out of this one. But I do hope Bruce makes a nice Cameo.

^ The Evil Dead reboot does look pretty neat. I will be honest and say I have never seen the original but I will have to check it out before I go to see the new one.

Saw Jack the Giant Slayer over the weekend. While it was a fun movie and princess was very fun to look at, I couldn't get passed how terrible the giants looked, especially with so much great CGI out there and the cost of this film, you would think it would look a little less fake. Also I felt like Stanley Tucci was severely underutilized.

The Ben thing DEFINITELY helped that movie win Best Picture, but IMO, it WAS the Best Picture of 2012. It's not my personal favorite (Django Unchained) but as a complete picture it was probably the best picture.

Here's the thing about the Best Pictures from last year, they were all VERY good (I saw all of them except for Amore).

These are the movies that would have won Best Picture in almost any other year: Django Unchained, Lincoln, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty. It was a great year for movies.

^Huh?

We might go out to see the Oz movie today in Erie. Not sure if it would be better to spend the extra money to see it in 3D?

I caught Oz: The Great and Powerful today and enjoyed it. It is a bit like "Army of Darkness in Oz," with a fair amount of Lord of the Rings thrown in for good measure. Derivative, but OK.
