nay
^^I saw Rock of Ages a few months ago and it was by no means the best show ever, it was a fun night. It's insanely loud and full of cheesy 80's music. Definitely not your typical Broadway experience!
The Alex
- Batboy! - The Legally Blonde Musical - A Very Potter Musical (win!) - Starmites - The Who's Tommy - Jane Eyer I have a huge love/hate relationship with FAME and RENT. They're tolerable.
Nrthwnd
^ Do you have the CD of most of the Broadway Starmites cast (minus Sharon McKnight, darnit)? I think it still might be available at Amazon.com where I picked it up, a few years back. And - just got two new (to me) show cast CDs and they both sound great. "Sister Act" is definitely The Musical (besides "Priscilla..") I may hope to see next year in London's West End, and although "9 to 5" is leaving Broadway in September, it sounds good enough to find future productions done, in other regional theater seasons. Going Bye Bye in September, sadly. But Ms.Parton should be proud of what she and the prouduction did with it all. It's gotten ectstatic reviews from all the London critics. And the audiences apprently love it, too!
nursemelis374
I saw one of the first preview showings of 9 to 5 in LA and loved it! I am a Dolly fan and the music was great. I saw Topol in Fiddler on the Roof Thursday night at the Pantages in Hollywood. It was not even as good as I was expecting it to be. I thought there were a LOT of slow parts and bits of the story seemed to drag along. The audience was soooo into it! Next up: Legally Blonde! nay
I saw 9 to 5 here and also enjoyed it a lot. Really a cute, fun show! Megan Hilty, who plays the role that Dolly played in the movie, is just terrific. Too bad it's closing so soon. Whenever I have a free night, I try the ticket lottery for West Side Story, but I haven't had any luck so far, grrrr. Looks like the next musical I'll probably see will be Bye Bye Birdie next month starring John Stamos.

Bolliger&Mabillard
Does the South Park movie count as a musical?
Brandy524
I just bought the soundtrack of Zombie Prom. I really like it! It's kind of a cross between Rocky Horror, Grease, and a sci-fi B-Movie. I would love to see it live.
Nrthwnd
Does the South Park movie count as a musical? Well, it's a movie musical, lol. And I think the original intent was to post stuff about favorite stage musicals. But a lot of people have posted favorite movie musicals like yourself...and.... And I loved that movie! Peed myself silly, the first time I saw it on the big screen. I just cried and laughed at it all. Much fun. And Kenny finally got his wings. And big-boobed angels, heh heh. And who knew that "Blame Canada" would be nominated for a Best Original Song Academy Award and have it performed by Robin Williams and a chorus line of strutting long legged..... Mounties (?) at that year's televised Oscars? Yes it counts, to answer your question, LOL.
nay
The South Park movie is awesome. My friend and I still sing the Kyle's Mom song randomly whenever we think of it. I'll have to watch it again one of these days.
Sir Clinksalot
We went and saw Fiddler last week with Topol. It was AMAZING. The man is what, 75 years old and he's still amazing in the role. I was very glad we got to see him in his farewell tour.

Nrthwnd
^ Congratulations! You have a few pretty good numbers in there for Seymour. Have a great time with the production.

Moose
LAst night I went to see the touring production of Avenue Q. I absolutely loved it. The music was so much fun and oh so true. It also made me realize I need to go and get new glasses because I couldnt see the actors faces from my relatively close seats.
nursemelis374
Over the weekend I saw "Miss Saigon" for 8 bucks (gotta love Goldstar!) at Cal State Fullerton. The story was beautiful if a little slow at moments and I really enjoyed it! I was VERY impressed with the quality of the theater and the production at Cal Sate Fullerton. I will be coming back to see shows here in the future.

nay
LAst night I went to see the touring production of Avenue Q. I absolutely loved it. The music was so much fun and oh so true. Yay! And even though Avenue Q closed on Broadway last month, they reopened it at an Off-Broadway theatre again this month. I have to see it again sometime. I'm also dying to see the new Broadway revival of Ragtime. I loved the original production - I hope this one doesn't disappoint!
nursemelis374
There are so many cheap plane deals to NYC from LAX right now, I have been considering just making a trip to eat, shop and see a few plays!
ebl
Last week, I went to see Guys and Dolls at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. It's not Broadway, but it really isn't bad for a local theater company. (The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is home to the Cabrillo Music Theatre group.) Brandy524
I am currently listening, and have recently become addicted to, Big River. My husband bought it a long time ago, but I didn't think I'd like it so I never gave it a try. I was wrong! I love every song; can listen over and over. Would love to see it done. nay
^I don't own any recordings from Big River, but I saw it on Broadway when they made a revival done with sign language. It was really interesting and a great production! There are so many cheap plane deals to NYC from LAX right now, I have been considering just making a trip to eat, shop and see a few plays! Do it! Huge_Wonderland_Fan
Urinetown!! I saw a production of it at the nearby college a few years ago and it was amazing, much better than some of the "professional" ones I saw on youtube.
dandaman
^ Our university is doing Urinetown and I get to be Lockstock! First play and also the first time I've ever tried to sing publicly and NOT try to be mocked for it. Needs some work, and with 12 days to go before Performance #1, the improvements need to come fast. nay
I just saw the new revival of Ragtime on Broadway and absolutely *loved* it! I remember seeing the original production a few times several years ago, and thought it was amazing too. I think seeing it again brought back so many memories and it just felt great to see something so wonderful on stage. The music is flawless and the cast does a terrific job with it. I cried like a baby. It's still in previews now, but I imagine that once it officially opens, it will be a big fat hit. Get your tickets now!!
