odene497
I'm a horribly unseasoned musical person (And I'm gay ) I saw A Chorus Line in DC, and it was so insanely hysterical. "Titttts, whennnnn am I gonnnnnna grow titttttts?"
Nrthwnd
I found this at Broadway.com.... about "Carrie: The Musical"... http://www.broadway.com/buzz/sutton-foster-marin-mazzie-molly-ranson-more-sign-carrie-reading/ And I have a framed showcard of the original cult disaster (closed after 5 perfs & 16 previews) proudly up on a wall in my home. I actually was planning to get a ticket for it back in 1988, if and when I got over to New York that year. When I did get there in the fall, the theatre was still painted black for the show and nothing had gone in since Carrie's closing. And that's when I picked up the showcard of it. Since this is for an "invited audience" I bet somebody is going to pay big bucks to try and get a listen to this cast's "reading" of the new version of it. Should be an interesting, however it goes, lol. This is the logo I found of the fated musical.
nay
^ It will be interesting to see if they decide to do anything with the show after this reading. I've heard some of the music before and it's actually somewhat decent. In other musical news, I saw the first performance of the new Addams Family musical last night. While it was WAY too long (3 hours!), I liked it quite a bit and it certainly has a lot of potential. You can't go wrong with that cast, though. I was also really impressed with the set design and the puppetry. There's a song that Fester sings about his love for the moon, which was adorable and had such wonderful effects during it. I'll definitely be seeing this one again once it comes to Broadway. I can't wait to see the finished product!
Nrthwnd
^Entertainment Weekly put in their recent issue a pic of 'the family,' Broadway.com picked it up and posted it there, so I thought I'd do the same for you guys. And I'm pretty sure you can all figure out who's who here, lolol. But ...... where's Thing? "They're back and just as ooky..."
socalMAN123
It's been years of obsession for me, and this February I finally get to go see WICKED!!!!!! on Broadway! ---Brent

nay
But ...... where's Thing? Thing does make a brief appearance in The Addams Family, as does Cousin It! The show has a lot of potential. I hope they work out all of the issues in the out-of-town tryout,
socalMAN123
Oh, I don't get to go see it until I'm in NYC in February. But I will for sure let you know how much I enjoy it! ---Brent
mwm1444
Oh right, sorry, got a bit confused there. Having seen it far too many times, I'm on a (relaxing) break from going to see Wicked, but I'm still always interested to hear what people going for the first time think. atem122
I go to a performing arts school, and our musical was 'Cabaret.' While I'm not a musicaly guy AT ALL, I actually quite enjoyed it, although it was for sure NOT appropriate for high school. ...buuuuut it was hot
mwm1444
Going down to London on Tuesday - aiming to see Billy Elliot and Hairspray, if possible.
alanjonesbath
We've seen quite a few now in London, and a couple of others here and there. So far, my absolute favourite has to Avenue Q. I've never laughed so much in my life, and it's the only musical that I've got the soundtrack for on my iPhone. Spamalot was pretty good too, and I'm not even a huge Monty Python fan. Thought Rent was very good as well (which we saw in New York, rather than the London version).
mwm1444
I think I've seen around 40 different performances (rather than different shows), musical theatre-wise, over the last 4 years.
christianscoasters
I will be in NYC around December 30th. I was hoping to see Shrek: The Musical on that day. What sucks? The discounted tickets only go to the 23rd Anyone know where to get cheap tickets? We're gonna try TKTS ..
dandaman
Just got back from seeing Avenue Q.It was here in Wichita for two nights. OMG IT WAS EPIC!!! Funniest freaking thing I've seen in FOREVER!!! Awesome to hear; Melbourne is the next stop on the tour and I'm seeing it for the first time tonight as an escape from finals week, albeit in the last row of the theater. Still... Nrthwnd
re: Avenue Q.... I nearly peed myself, laughing so much, during it's first week of previews in London back in (man, has it been that long?) 2006. Couldn't believe how brilliant it was, from beginning to end. Hope you enjoy it. Oh, I'm sure you will, LOL. And KACHING!!! Post #5353! I was born in 1953. It's a numbers 'thing' with me, heh heh.
mwm1444
So while in London, I saw (in order, Tuesday through to today) Hairspray, Oliver!, and Billy Elliot. Hairspray was excellent, got £25 front row seats. Phill Jupitus (UK'ers will know the name) was playing Edna, and was great fun to watch, and cool at the stage door afterwards. One new highlight for me (having seen the show before) was noticing all sorts of cool little details in what the ensemble was doing, whilst the attention was not directly on them. The girl understudying Penny was hilarious all the way through. Also, fantastic voices from the understudy for Seaweed (lovely, gravelly, '60s voice), and the guy playing Corny Collins. --- Oliver!: had been avoiding this for what seems like an age, since I'm not a fan of gunshots when they're in my vicinity, and..well, everyone knows how Bill Sikes meets his end. What, you don't? He gets shot. Surprise. Anyway, with beating heart and ever-more-sweaty palms (not making this up; I really am this neurotic about sudden loud noises), I sat through what was actually an excellent show, and one that I will definitely be seeing again, not least because Louise Gold (the only British Muppeteer on the Muppet Show, no less) was playing two fairly small parts, and she's a lovely person. Got a hug off her at stage door, which made my year, pretty much. A hug from an actual Muppeteer? Get in. And the gunshot wasn't that bad. And Omid Djalili (again, UK'ers) was pretty good as Fagin, and was lovely at stage door. --- Billy Elliot: seen this a few times, good repeatability factor because a) you (generally) always see a different Billy, Michael, Debbie and Ballet Girl ensemble every time, and b) the regulars (the familiar faces always seen in the first two rows) are just great fun to be with. I was initially sat in row B, but the Victoria Palace was pretty quiet (comparatively speaking), so at interval/intermission, I moved to the seat in front. Billy Elliot in front row is one of my favourite theatrical experiences, and I don't care that you can't see anyone's feet. Great show.
dandaman
re: Avenue Q... Hope you enjoy it. Oh, I'm sure you will, LOL. The prophecy has been fulfilled... I laughed my ass off. Favourite songs I'd have to say were "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist", "The Internet Is For Porn", and "My Girlfriend Who Lives In Canada" (for obvious reasons). Dan "Her name is Alberta, she lives in Vancouver, she cooks like my mother and sucks like a Hoover..." Smith
christianscoasters
^"And I can't wait to eat her p!@#y again!" Haha. I remember in middle school, I used to say the same thing! Just not Canada, Lol. It's a GREAT show! After the years of obsession, what did you think? And who were your Elphie/Glinda? Elphaba - Eden Espinosa!!! Glinda - Kristen Chenoweth!!! When Wicked was in Wichita, it was Marcie Dodd as Elphaba and Helene Yorke as Glinda. I've heard Marcie is amazing, but through the videos I've seen, Eden just takes the show, especially during "No Good Deed". OMG!!! Look, it's Eden and Megan!!! dandaman
^ Heh, on that final line, there was no orchestra hit for our production; I don't know if it was intentional, but no one knew the song had ended and made it even more awkward and awesome! christianscoasters
^There's supposed to be an orchestra hit. I wonder why there wasn't. The Bad Idea Bears are AMAZING!!! "Take her home. Nrthwnd
^ When I was in London for for the first week's previews, me and my friend were in the front row balcony. Perfect seats they were. But I noticed something, while looking at the theatre before it started. There - was Jeff Marx looking on to see how the previews were going. He was in a left front side box for the first half, but then moved up to my area within reach in another box section. So.... I excused myself, introduced myself to him, shook his hand said what a wonderful show he and everybody had put together. "And by the way..... I live in Vancouver." He guffawed and nearly fell out of his seat, lol. He thanked me and hoped we'd enjoy the second half. And - we did of course, hee hee hee. (And that Ugly Betty bit looked great LOL!)
