robbalvey Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Hey everyone! I have added a "spellchecker" to the posting functionality. You'll see a little "spellcheck" button in the lower right hand corner of the posting box. If you click it, you'll get a pop-up that should check your spelling for you. If there is a word that is not in the dictionary, you can click "learn" but that will only learn the word on your local machine. Please let me know how the fuction is working and based on your feedback I will decide if I am going to keep it or not. Thanks! --Robb "Doing what I can to make TPR a better place!" Alvey
eggzter Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Please let me know how the fuction is working and based on your feedback I will decide if I am going to keep it or not. yeah its working well j/k
krouvi Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Sounds like the thing I need... as a non English Native speaker.
Shockwave Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 "Red Dawn Awesome." Spellchecking says - No misspellings found. That works pretty well!
RollerC Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 So now any regular forum noob can sound like their educated?
Sean Menefee Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Anyways, the spell checker is cool. Runs nice and quick in Opera, and makes it so I don't have to drag my text into Word 2007. It seems like a keeper to me. Sean-
Carnage Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 So now any regular forum noob can sound like their educated? It's just a spell checker. It won't correct grammar mistakes or plain stupid posts. Looks good so far. I'll use it at work where I have to use IE.
kenshinmac Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 "I can't's types's thes badlys wordeds posts anymores? Oh deres!!" - No spelling errors found in this... This seems kind of lackluster... Seems like anything it thinks is fine can be made plural by adding an 's' to the end. Ack... It flags "I'm" as incorrect. I can't say I see this improving things on the board. Now if any of those really aren't improper English I will be happy to have it pointed out to me.
WillMontu Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 The spell checker is nice, though I use Firefox with the built in checker, similar to MS Office where it highlights words that it is unsure of (and I can spell, most of the time), so I probably won't need to use it very much. Now if only we can find a way to cut down on Poor Capitalization and txt tlk.
Carnage Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 The spell checker is nice, though I use Firefox with the built in checker, similar to MS Office where it highlights words that it is unsure of I use firefox as well, though I find it has alot of trouble coming up with the word you're looking for. Very often I'll have to play with the spelling of the word to get the word I was going for to show up in the list.
robbalvey Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Ack... It flags "I'm" as incorrect. I have added "I'm" to the dictionary. Mods can add words to the dictionary so if you see something that should be added, let one of us know. Personally I think it's a great addition, but we will probably have to modify the dictionary to include some of our coaster terms! --Robb
thrillrideseeker Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 WOW! It worked great! I think you should keep it! ~Matthew
Queenda Ka x Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I wish every forum I am on had this feature. I like it.
CK Media Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 What about quick reply? Not going to happen, sorry. ¡¿Porque?!
Wes Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 It was discussed, and the general consensus was that adding a Quick Reply function will increase the amount of useless posts on the forums.
thefitness Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Awesome! Great feature, Hopefully this will mean cleaner posts for everyone.
TheLastGunslinger Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 It's a nice feature but like several other users here I use the spell-check built into Firefox 2.
jackskellington101 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Worked well for what I saw. It's better than the one that's built into Firefox 2 and it will certainly help me.
coastrfreak2000 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 What about quick reply? Not going to happen, sorry. What's a "Quick Reply"?
Nrthwnd Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Then of course, there's the extremely "old-fashioned method" of just hitting the PREVIEW button and checking the post yourself for errors, etc. But every little help...... helps, heh heh.
