beatle11 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Kostitsyn is the only real scoring threat they added. Not sure that's gonna be enough. Gaustad and Gill had better make their defensive game near perfect.
imawesome1124 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 ^ Look at the team they already have though. They are already stacked on defense and they added Gill to make it even more solid. They have an amazing goaltending duo with Rinne and Lindback. And they don't need a big goalscorer to get offense. Most of their wins are low-scoring games, they rely more on defense than offense. I'm not saying that their offense isn't good, but it is by no means bad. Like they say offense wins games, defense wins championships. Gaustad I think will have more of an impact than people may think. He isn't a goalscorer, he is a grit player, much like Brouwer on the Caps, and he's a perfect fit for Nashville. Pretty much all of my friends agree with me. We have agreed that we think it will be Preds and Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final. We were split as far as who would win, but a conference championship for Nashville would still be great.
Philrad71 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Kostitsyn is the only real scoring threat they added. Not sure that's gonna be enough. Gaustad and Gill had better make their defensive game near perfect. Â Â IE: Gaustad...just hope the Preds don't expect him to stick up for their goalie if he get's ran over! Â As far as the Sabres trades, I like the fact that they were able to squeeze a 1st rounder from Nashville for Gaustad. I probably wouldn't have given up a 3rd rounder for him myself. Also like the Hodgson deal for Kassian. While I hated that they gave up size and grit (which they desperately need), they got what looks to be a bright up and coming center! Â Didn't follow our GM's statement that they think they can make a run based on those deals though. Looks to me like he is already looking ahead to next year. We won't go anywhere if we even make the playoffs because we don't have much size and toughness. Mccormick, Kaleta and Myers are about all we have left that fit those two descriptions.
beatle11 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I love it! I hope they make the playoffs! Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVOpEKECwnA
paintballer Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Darn it, Baseball, stop distracting me from NHL, you're not even in a regular season yet! Â I still has faith in my Rangers, non the less!
imawesome1124 Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 ^ How could you not have faith in the Rangers right now? They're first in the Eastern Conference. Â Even though it isn't looking great for us, I'm not giving up on the Caps.
molemaster43 Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Yeah, the Rangers are doing great right now. This is the best I've seen them in awhile.
chemical_echo Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Winnipeg Jets owner endorses Saskatoon as NHL city, with one concern An even smaller city than Winnipeg, but would probably get more support than some teams in the USA. Â I say if they can do like Winnipeg did and prove the city wants a team there through a season ticket drive, then go for it. They'd probably pull in more money than some of the failing teams.
Philrad71 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 ^They have been trying to land one in Hamilton too...I wonder why no team back in Quebec City? Think they'll ever bring back the Nordiques? Â I tend to agree that there need to be more Canadian NHL teams...the experiment with some of the Southern US hockey teams that can't sell tickets (even in the playoffs) should be over. Bring 'em back up North, I say!
coasterbill Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Darn it, Baseball, stop distracting me from NHL, you're not even in a regular season yet! I still has faith in my Rangers, non the less!  That was a big win last night, I feel pretty good about how they're playing right now. They've won three out of five and they played well in the game that they lost to Colorado, they just ran into a red hot goaltender.  Hopefully that little funk they were in is over.
Jew Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Go Kings! The pacific division/bottom of the western conference is going to make for a crazy ending to the season.
imawesome1124 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Tonight's game against Winnipeg and Tuesday's game against Buffalo are absolute must wins for the Caps, especially the one against the Sabers. Buffalo plays tonight and has a chance to take over eighth if they win. If we lose tonight's and Tuesday's it will basically be over for us.
chemical_echo Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 ^They have been trying to land one in Hamilton too...I wonder why no team back in Quebec City? Bring 'em back up North, I say! Once Quebec City's new arena gets built they will have the Nordiques back. Trust me on that one.
chemical_echo Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Sorry for the double post; but Quebec City announced their new arena to be ready by 2015 New $400 million, 18,000-seat arena in Quebec City to be ready by Sept. 2015  The realization of the NHL coming back to Quebec City took a big step forward on Sunday when Mayor Regis Labeaume announced plans for a $400 million, 18,000-seat arena that will begin construction in September and be ready by September 2015. Labeaume said the arena would be comparable to that of CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Also in attendance was Pierre-Karl Peladeau, president and CEO of media conglomerate Quebecor who has expressed interest in buying an NHL team should one come available. Quebecor was also granted naming rights to the soon-to-be built arena and will manage the facility.  From the Journal de Quebec (via Google translation):  Peladeau has also insisted that Quebec will certainly not be ashamed when it compare to other cities with modern lecture theaters. "There is no doubt, in September 2015 we will inaugurate a modern multifunctional amphitheater, comparable to what is best in North America. From day one, it will be a source of great pride for the citizens of Quebec and all Quebecers. The stage of no return is crossed," he said.  Labeaume told those in attendance at the press conference he wouldn't be answering any questions related to a future NHL tenant in the building. That's in following the True North Sports and Entertainment route of doing your due diligence and keeping quiet until the NHL says the team is yours.  RDS's Renaud Lavoie tweeted that the NHL would not comment on the arena news.  In March, Labeaume said that millions of dollars in upgrades would be completed this summer to Le Colisee, the former home of the Nordiques; so should the Phoenix Coyotes -- or any other NHL team given the sharp left turn that happened a year ago -- have to be relocated this summer, a temporary home in Quebec would be available for the next three years while the new arena is being built.
imawesome1124 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Ovi's heating up at just the right time. 7 goals his last 5 games and 9 his last 7. It's amazing that even though he's having his worst season he could still get 40 goals. One thing I've noticed about him is that he pats his belly every time he scores. Why? My only guess is that a lot of his critics call him fat and lazy and he's turned it into a joke. Other than that I have no idea why he would do that.
Philrad71 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 ^Maybe he's got heartburn thinking about playing the Sabres tomorrow night? Â Can't wait for tomorrow's game...this is like a Game 7 for both teams and they know it. Sure hope it's a good one!
imawesome1124 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 ^The way I see it, whoever wins this game gets the #8 spot. It's really going to come down to who is more desperate for the spot. This is THE most important game of the year for both teams. If Ovechkin plays tomorrow the way he's played the last two weeks, you're going to be the one with heartburn.
BaMiTsPaT Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 ^I think it is huge for both, but much moreso for the Sabres. The Caps can have less points than the 8th seed and still make it to the playoffs with home ice. All they have to do is play better than Florida for the remainder of the season.
imawesome1124 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 F**king Caps can't do anything right! At this point they may as well be eliminated because unless all the planets align and they somehow miraculously win this game, they're out. Dale Hunter needs to be fired asap. He is the most incompetent coach in the entire league. How can you score if you don't take the puck into the offensive zone? When you're in the offensive zone, do you really think it's a good idea to have the pointmen back at THEIR OWN blue line? Don't you think your guys will get tired if you're only playing three lines? I don't know why he was hired, because he has absolutely no idea how to coach a hockey team. I hate him and want to see him out of Washington soon.
Philrad71 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 ^44 shots on goal isn't too shabby (despite an off night by Ovechkin and a poor forecheck) but they just ran into a Sabres team that is simply on a very nice hot streak. Â Miller is 18-3-5 since the All Star break, the team is 14-2-3 since Feb 19th, the penalty killing has killed off 12 power plays in a row and the line of Stafford, Ennis and Faligno has been close to unstoppable. Â Still have a handful of games left, but at this point I would assume that any team above us in the Eastern Conference standings does NOT want to play the Sabres if they squeak into the playoffs...although losing a couple of defensemen worries me.
Philrad71 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Two losses in a row...two more points behind in the race for 8th. Â Not looking too good!
Jew Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Pacific division finish is going to be intense! Go Kings Go!

DerekRx Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I'm definitely looking forward to the next round of the Flyers-Penguins death match on Saturday. I knew early in the year when I saw the Flyers schedule that the final game of the regular season was probably going to be good, but after Sunday's game there I think it's going to be epic. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Bylsma takes the cowards way and keep his stars off the ice until the playoffs, we can't have Sissy Crosby getting injured (by overacting and falling on the ice and getting hurt from his own doing). Whatcha gonna do!?
