beatle11 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=386722 Don't remember hearing anything like this happen before... NHL INVESTIGATING SCOREBOARD ERROR IN KINGS' VICTORY The National Hockey League is looking into a scoreboard error at the Staples Center on Wednesday night that gave the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. "We're looking at it from all aspects," NHL executive vice-president Colin Campbell told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun on Thursday. "We're sending two people out there. Is it possible for the clock to stop like that? We're going to look at everything." Kings blueliner Drew Doughty scored the winning goal with less than a second to play in regulation to secure the win. But when the Blue Jackets looked at video after the game, they saw that the clock froze for about a second before the goal - meaning time should have expired. Campbell also confirmed that regardless of the league's findings, the result of the game can't be changed. "No you can't," he told TSN. "Once the game is over, it's over." Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson explained in his team blog on Thursday morning that the incident could have an 'enormous impact' on the standings. "It's easy to say that this doesn't matter," he wrote. "We, the Blue Jackets, are in last place and it is likely not going to affect our place in the standings. However, in my opinion, this matters in many respects. It matters to our players, to our coaches, every person in our organization and our fans." The Kings are seventh in the Western Conference - five points up on eighth-place Minnesota and six points ahead of Dallas and Calgary. "Those clocks are sophisticated instruments that calculate time by measuring electrical charges called coulombs, explained Kings general manager Dean Lombardi in an email to TSN. "Given the rapidity and volume of electrons that move through the measuring device the calibrator must adjust at certain points which was the delay you see – the delay is just recalibrating for the clock moving too quickly during the 10 - 10ths of a second before the delay - this insures that the actual playing time during a period is exactly 20 minutes. That is not an opinion - that is science - amazing devise quite frankly." The Calgary Flames - another team trying to make its mark down the stretch - said there's little the league could do to correct such a mistake. "It is our understanding the NHL is already investigating this matter," said general manager Jay Feaster in a team statement. "Moreover, as Colin Campbell was quoted as saying, once the game is over it is over. There is nothing the NHL is going to do, or can do, to correct the situation if, indeed, there was a mistake made in that game. Rather than crying over what happened in a game in which we did not take part, our time and energies are devoted to our own team and doing everything we can to win the games we play and in so doing qualify for the post-season. We sincerely believe that is a much better and more efficient use of our time and effort."
Top Thrill Dragster Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I was at that game last night, I though for sure time had ran out and was shocked that they counted it. Also, this is not the first time the clock has screwed up at Staples. Last season game 3 in the playoffs they were having big time problems during the first and second periods. Oh well. It's nice to see the Kings getting a break for once.
DiSab Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 We just find new and exciting ways to lose games this year. Not a good season at all. Oh, and Lombardi's explanation about the whole thing is the biggest bunch of **** I've ever heard.
beatle11 Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Who the hell saw this coming...Sam Gagner just scored 4 goals and added 4 assists in the game tonight vs the Hawks. 8 Points ties Gretzky and Coffey for the Oilers record for a single game...Wow! He officially has more points in 1 game than Scott Gomez has all season.
imawesome1124 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Caps are done this year. We haven't been able to do anything lately, and the only wins we really got were against average teams (with the exception of Boston). We can't do squat against a good team and that's mostly who we'll be playing the rest of the year. Not only that, but most of our games are on the road, and we're one of if not THE worst road team this year. If we do make the playoffs we won't be higher than the 8th seed and we'll get destroyed by New York. No matter what happens it will be another disappointing year for Caps fans.
BaMiTsPaT Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 ^ If Florida starts to tank and Washington keeps playing average hockey, you may end up the third seed in the East even if you don't play particularly good hockey. You can thank your division for being complete trash, especially the Lightning. They're really disappointing this year.
imawesome1124 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Alright! Holtby's starting! That alone gives us a much better chance against the Sharks!
BaMiTsPaT Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 ^Except for Stamkos Ya Stamkos is a great player, but as a team they are still playing terribly.
Homer Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 ^Except for Stamkos Ya Stamkos is a great player, but as a team they are still playing terribly. Just one competent, young goalie is all I ask for next season.
DerekRx Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Since we both had to work late today, not much excitement was to be had for Valentines Day around here, but I did manage to catch the Detroit win (still not sure how I feel about the whole record considering how the end boards at The Joe are older than I am and how the Red Wings obviously know how to use them to their advantage, plus the whole shootout etc rule to help them get to that 21st win, but...) congrats to them. For my V-day gift the girlfriend got us tickets 9th row center to see the Flyers hopefully kick some Sabres butt on Thursday and get out of this losing slump they've been in lately. We gotta get some points and stop letting the Rangers walk all over this division!
coasterbill Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 The Rangers are looking great this year. Boston is a tough team, I can't believe we shut them out. I'm thinking about going to the Garden this weekend to see them play Columbus. They're not a great team but the ticket prices are very reasonable.
imawesome1124 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 ^ Even though I absolutely HATE Malkin, I have to admit that he's having an amazing season. He's playing like Ovechkin did his first 5 years. Now Ovi needs to start playing like Ovi again. I know he's having a slump, but this is going on for too long. The Caps either need a completely new system or Hunter needs to have a talk with Ovi about changing his style. He is STILL trying to beat 3 or 4 guys at one time and it doesn't work anymore. They've figured him out. He needs to start shooting more, all his multi goal games have been games where he's shooting a lot. He needs to get off the point and get to the front of the net to poke in rebounds. I know I ripped Crosby when he started doing that, but it worked for him. It will work for Ovi too. I will miss goals like these though:
BaMiTsPaT Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 ^What did Malkin do that made you "absolutely hate" him?
DerekRx Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 ^I'm just guessing here, but I think it was when he put on that black and gold sweater.
imawesome1124 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Maybe "absolutely hate" was an exaggeration, but I don't particularly like him. And yes, the reason is because of the team he plays for. I hate anyone who plays for the Penguins.
harper83087 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Wow I lost track of this thread haha, just read through 14 pages. Did anybody happen to watch the Phoenix @ LA game last night? 40 minutes of penalties and 3 fights in the first period. It was good to see Doaner drop the gloves and stand up for Klesla. We're going to really struggle if Rusty is out for a while, AGAIN. Unlike the majority of people I've talked to about that hit though, I belive Brown delivered a good clean hit with an unfortunate outcome. And I have to mention the wall in net, Smith has stopped 147 of 150 shots in his last 5 starts and has 2 shutouts in a row, a 0.980 Save% and something like a 1.67 GAa.
imawesome1124 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 ^ That's nothing. Last year in a Pens and Islanders game there was something like 391 penalty minutes, like 5 game misconducts, a couple suspensions, several fines, and my favorite part, the Islanders won 9-3.
harper83087 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 ^HA! that's great!! I love it when the Pens get spanked. I have nothing against the Pens as a team, they're fantastic, but I do have a problem with them being NBC's end all be all of hockey teams. Last nights game wasn't anything like that, it was just an extremely entertaining, hard fought, highly defensive game between two team battling for a playoff spot.
imawesome1124 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 These stupid f***ing douchebag refs probably took the game right away from us. They washed out a 100% legal goal which would have tied it. They said it was "coincidental contact with the goalie" but Knuble wasn't even in the crease. The nicest thing I can say about the league's officials is that they sould go f**k themselves.
Freefallbestrideever Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 We had to update our satellite plan to sign up for the soccer channels, just noticed NHL Network is no longer available
