Adam_C Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Firstly, hi, Im new! My name's Adam, I live in Bolton, near Manchester in the North West of England. I however, am a big wuss! I don't like coasters or thrill rides, lol. I like stuff like Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney, Trauma Towers in Blackpool Pleasure Beach etc, so really things like fun dark rides, family attractions like mazes and stuff, FUN stuff, not AAAAAAARGH stuff! The toughest coaster Ive been on and enjoyed is Big Thunder Mountain in Disneyland Paris. Unless you count Test Track at EPCOT. Although a few years ago I went to Universal Studios Hollywood and didnt realise that Jurassic Park River Adventure was anything other than a fun boat/animatronic ride until I got off at the end, dripping wet, and uttering, "th...th...there was a drop!!"
Jayjay719 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 You can ride tea cups or Dumbo! But seriously, coasters are awesome! Don't be afraid!
bgwfreak Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 OK, what exactly are you asking? Did you start a thread just to say you're scared of coasters?
Adam_C Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 OK, what exactly are you asking? Did you start a thread just to say you're scared of coasters? I was just saying hi really, Im new! I liked Big Thunder Mountain at DLRP a LOT, but it's because it was just fast and twisty and nicely themed, no big drops or loops etc (cant stand drops!), and just wonder if anyone maybe could recommend similar things I might like, maybe out of UK parks and Disney Florida as I go there on holiday. But if I wasnt supposed to make a post just saying hi, then Im sorry.
Adam_C Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 You can ride tea cups or Dumbo! But seriously, coasters are awesome! Don't be afraid! Well like I say, I liked Big Thunder, I just dont like big droppy coasters etc, ya know? Im not afraid as such, I just dont think Id enjoy certain ones at all. However, Six Flags America's "Batwing" looks very fun.
PKI Jizzman Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Then dont go on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, Rock n Rollercoaster...anything extreme...and if you just saying hey Im new....your saying hey close this thread! But if your scared of big rides...dont go on anything extreme....ask about the ride before you go on it...if you thought MTMRR was extreme...then...yea, its really a tame ride...so.....start small. There is a great book called Birnbaum's Guide to Disney World with kids, or without kids. I love to read the book, and it helps you plan out your day well and get around the park
cfc Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 If you liked Big Thunder, I think you'd like Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It's taller and faster (as far as I can tell), but not much more intense than Big Thunder. Disney and Universal are, of course, loaded with rides for those who don't like coasters, and you can find plenty to do at Alton (Duel and Hex come to mind).

Expedition Everest looks great themed but there's a big drop!

I love to read the book, and it helps you plan out your day well and get around the park Yeah well I didnt know I wasnt supposed to do a "hi, Im new!" post. If its to be closed, then so be it. Rock N Roller coaster my bf thinks I would like, at least based on the Disney Paris verison, he said it was very smoothe. And again, Im not "scared" as such, Ive just never wanted to go on a coaster cos I dont think Id like them, and I dont like big drops. I didnt think BTM was extreme, but Im saying that I enjoyed that particular ride, and was wondering about similar. And yeah I know Disney well, as I say, I enjoyed BTM in Paris and Florida, and Test Track and Mission Space were both fun, but again, Test Track is just a fast twisty type as opposed to drops, if that makes sense. But so far people have seemed kinda hostile
crazyrider06 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Coasters might take some getting use to for you, but there is absolutly nothing to be scare of. Riding coasters is freaking awesome, once you start you will be alright.. your nerves will be gone and the enjoyment of riding will come
RCoasterny Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 So, why are you scared of drops? What goes through your head if you were to experience a big drop? It seems it's not a motion sickness thing- only a psychological thing, which I'm sure we can rectify!
Wes Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Wow, a lot of backseat moderators in this thread. The thread is fine. You guys need to ease up. The drop on Everest is actually pretty tame. Don't let the height scare you, it's pretty easy.
CGM Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 It wasn't too long ago that I was in your possition. Trust me, don't just do dark rides and mini flats, if you do that then you are really missing out on the best aspect of a park. The first thing to remember is don't be put off by the smaller coasters. The last drop on BTM is on par with some of the larger coasters and it's a pretty good coaster by any standards, so don't go thinking that the huge coasters are ten times more extreme. Drops can be quite strange the first few times, but after you've experienced a few, you soon get used to it and you learn to enjoy it. Coasters always look much more intimmidating than they actually are and don't be put off by buzz words such as "intense" as it is really just fun. I would advise starting with a ride like Air that's smooth and not too fast. You should come off thinking "Yeah, that was alright" and then move onto some more intimmidating rides ie. Nemesis . That's how I got my start
oriolat Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 ^Yes! Firstly, for those saying the point of this thread, I think it's actually really interesting to see someone explaining his fear of riding coasters, and at the same time introducing himself. Welcome! Don't be scared of riding other coasters than BTM. I mean, BTM (at least the Paris version) is pretty big and the final drop is one of the best I have ever experienced. It totally caught me by surprise. And, as CGM has stated, most coasters do look really big and 'ooooh!' but in the end are less intense and more fun than one could think at the first sight. I mean, coasters are designed so that everyone can enjoy them without fearing falling from a car or forces being too high to be tolerable by the general public. Sometimes, reviews from coaster enthusiast sites tend to exagerate the feelings and create an hype, which most of the time, doesn't match the actual coaster. I am not saying that coasters are tame and boring... just don't believe everything you read and go ahead with coasters! They are fun, and as soon as you ride the next few coasters and you enjoy them, you will be hoping for more and more! Just take it easy

Riding coasters is freaking awesome, once you start you will be alright.. your nerves will be gone and the enjoyment of riding will come Now, I've been thinking that! I mean before I first went on Big Thunder, I wouldnt have wanted to go on, for fear Id hate it, but I got the bottle together to go on it when my bf told me it was tame but fun etc etc, and after Id been on it, I loved it, and looked forward to it on my next visit! So yeah... its just getting the balls

The drop on Everest is actually pretty tame. Don't let the height scare you, it's pretty easy. Its tame, but then the drop on Splash Mountain looks too much for me. The one on Jurassic Park nearly killed me! lol As for the drops, the fear as it were is probably rooted in my fear of heights, and not liking the drop feeling because it makes my stomach flip.
Adam_C Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 ^Yes! Don't be scared of riding other coasters than BTM. And you think the drop in BTM is big and dead good? The one with the water spray? I didnt think it was that big. Fun though! The small one just before it where you look like you're going to hit a wall, and then you drop, and yer belly goes "floop!" hehe.
Wes Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Everest's drop is tamer than Jurassic Park and Splash. There is no stomach feeling.
CGM Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Thank you! And you think the drop in BTM is big and dead good? The one with the water spray? I didnt think it was that big. Fun though! I think that he's reffering to the last drop in the tunnel that takes you back under the lake. It is deffinately the highlight of the ride, particuarly if you're not expecting it and you get a real sense of speed on it
cfc Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 You might want to try working your way up--BTM was a good place to start. An enclosed coaster, such as Space Mountain ad DL or MK, might be a good fit, as you won't have a sense of being up very high. Having a good time is what really counts--what ever floats your boat. I used to be scared of coasters myself, until I rode the old Wild Mouse at Santa Cruz in California; after that, I wasn't afraid of any other coaster. (The Wild Mouse at Blackpool is very much like it.)

Yeah its cool, but I dont feel like its a drop, it just descends quickly instead of it being a sudden drop. ...if I make any sense.
CGM Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Well, I think that most people here would consider it to be a drop. Sudden drops like the ones you are reffering to are more commonly found on wild mouse coasters. If it's that kind of drop you're worried about, don't because they virtually don't exist on large coasters

(The Wild Mouse at Blackpool is very much like it.) The Wild Mouse in Blackpool? Is that the one on the pier with the waltzer style cars, or the one in the Pleasure Beach with the tiny 2 person cars? And yeah the next bigger coaster Im tempted to try is probably Rock N Roller Coaster when I go to Florida later in the year. I may end up in Blackpool before then, so may try the wild mouse or some other tame coaster like "Roller Coaster" (great name) or the Big Dipper... think they'd be any good? (if you've rode them).. its so pricy in Blackpool though!
downunder Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I definitely agree with the start small and work your way up, I don't like heights but I have never been afraid of coasters. I usually can't wait to get over to the USA and ride the biggest fastest thing I can get to.
cfc Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 ^^I was thinking of the wooden mouse at BPB, but that spinning mouse over on the pier is pretty high up (that was the scariest part of that ride).
