JamesMC
What with all the land that Disney has in Florida, should they build the next chapter of theme parks, with a "land" devoted solely to rides a la Six Flags/Cedar Fair- or should they keep the "Magic" alive and cater more towards the "Family" theme. My opinion is since they already have the "Family-Themed Experience" down pat, they should build a park with "Rides" for the Thrill Seekers. Scaparri
I vote no. Sure, it'd be pretty cool from our stand point for them to do it, but there really isn't any reason for them to do it. Most of us here at this site are all huge thrill seekers, but yet, tons of us still go to WDW every year. It would be awesome to have a highly themed Disney thrill park, but I just don't think they really have much reason to build it.
pvcoasterguy
Isn't it the philosophy of Disney to include something for everyone in their parks? Buliding a thrill park would totally go against what Disney is about... families being together and having a great time. Walt Disney has the formula down pat. There is something for everyone at their parks. Thrill rides, dark rides, educational rides, great food, and much more. There is always a thrill ride or two in every Disney park, and they are always impeccable. Disney has a great variety of rides and experiences, and I would never trade that for a thrill park. RNRC
I don't tihnk it needs it. Disney is and shoud be magical for families. Besides, Florida has thrill parks that are within a 20 minute drive of Disney. Disney has enough thrill rides for me. BarryH
There will probably not be a B&M at Disney. The Rock N Roller Coaster was supposed to be a B&M. Walt Disney World approached B&M to create the Rock N Roller Coaster. B&M has a unique process to create coasters. The park gives them the land specs and they design a coaster for the land. Disney said that they didn’t work that way and wanted a greater part in designing the coaster. B&M said that they didn’t work that way and walked away from the project. Only B&M has enough clout in the coaster business to do that!
JamesMC
I can see both sides of the fence- I actually worked for Disney for a summer internship. What I'm saying though, is that since they already have a number of family-oriented parks (and I love 'em all), wouldn't it make "financial sense" for them to capture the "Thrill Seekers" as well??? I am really curious, and please if you disagree, I welcome your responses. I am not Anti-Disney, just trying to get a pulse on what our expecations are from the Magic Kingdom and related properties. Blazen_AZN
I don't think they should build a themepark devoted to thrillrides entirley, but im not against them sprinkling them throught thier existing parks. But, when you think about it, how do you theme a giant rollercoaster? Basically all of disney's big rollercoasters are themed to mountains, but a mountain can only be so big. They would have to get pretty creative to get it done, not to mention spend a buttload of money. I'd like to see them try, but im fine with them just sticking to what they do best. JamesMC
I agree with you in principle- however look at what Cedar Point is doing with Maverick (whether you love the idea or hate it, there is NOTHING else like it) and it will be heavily themed and still be known as a "Thrill Ride" per se. And it's not that big overall, not going to break any height or speed records or records for inversions. But it does look like fun. Disney could do that. They are already good at the fun/theming part. I think what jaded me was that I got stuck on a boat in the middle of "It's A Small Small World" once for twenty minutes----and that was when I was working for Disney. Who Knows? Thanks for the input!
ltp74
Disney needs to make Disney/MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom all day parks before the talk of building a new park comes up. Also I don't think Disney will build another theme park in Florida for a long, long, long time, the way Disney has it now a family most likely spends around a week at WDW throwing out travel days that gives them 5 days to spend in parks which Disney hopes will be a day at each theme park, a day at a water park and the travel days spent shopping and/or using the resort amenities. YoshiFan
I think rather than taking away family rides/attractions for thrill rides now like how World of Motion was replaced with Test Track and Horizons was replaced with Mission Space and Food Rocks was replaced with Soarin (to most people Soarin isn't a thrill ride but Food Rocks was something anyone could see, Soarin is almost like a regular motion simulator), they should build the seperate park for thrill rides and leave the current family rides alone. Almost every addition to Disney recently has been a thrill ride (again I'mrestrictions or a ride that someone who only rides tame attractions could not ride), Everest, Mission Space, Primevial Whirl, Rock N Roller Coaster, using the term thrill ride in this case as anything that has major medical Tower of Terror etc. Other than a few dark rides that were redone (Buzz and Pooh), and the Dumbo clones, Disney hasn't added many tame rides and that was what Disneyland was orginally supposed to be about, rides that everyone in the family could ride together. It's not that I think Disney should stop building thrill rides, I just think they need to keep adding tame rides as well.

WillMontu
I agree with Disney not building a thrill park. Look at what Six Flags has done. They are struggling to attract families (who are the ones that bring in the profit)
DerekRx
I don't think Disney needs a thrill park, just to continue to add some thrill rides to the existing parks. Maybe even make some thrilling enough for the whole family to experience together. While Everest may not be the most thrilling coaster, I found it to be fun, and well worth 5 trips to Disney this year from me. And nothing to me beats the thrills of Tower of Terror.
