Hopefully I'm not in the minority, but I thought the episode was really awesome!

No, I loved it too. Although there's a mistake .. The mum was talking to the Man In Black in the cave, and he's telling her how he's going to install the wheel and pullies and such, and you can see the wheel leaning against the wall behind her. But then she knocks him out, kills everyone and fills in the hole .. Before he had a chance to install it! Either that's a major "oops" on the part of the writers, or someone else finds all that and installs the wheel.

But yeah I thought it was great, I really liked the whole thing with the brothers, etc. I still think we might learn more about the origins of "the light". Can't believe that there's less than 3 hours remaining .. I have found this season to mostly be disappointing, but I'll still be sad once its over.

^ There is 3 and a half hours left. An hour next Tuesday and 2 and a half hours on the finale Sunday.

I loved last nights episode as well and thought it had many answers. And you have to assume someone else installed the wheel or when he turned into the smoke monster he did it.

I thought we would find out a lot more about how the rules were created. We just know that Mother made it so that they could not kill each other. I guess Jacob didn't technically kill his brother since he became the smoke monster and still exists in some form.

I am confused about the frozen donkey wheel as well. I still don't understand what Man in Black was trying to do with it to manipulate the light.

Overall, the acting in this episode was superb. Hopefully, we will have a couple more flashbacks about them in the final hours of the show.

I still don't see what old questions were answered.

They told us a lot of background that I don't recall anyone asking about.

Jacob and MiB were not born on the island - not an answer to me since I don't remember anyone asking where they came from.

Jacob and MiB are brothers - so what, does that really advance the story more than them just being adversaries

OK we found out that their mother's murderer made it so they couldn't kill each other, but just knowing that those were the rules was suffice to me. Now I want to know who this damn woman is and how she got to the island. I never cared about how Jacob got there before.

Adam and Eve - Yes, it's nice to have an answer, but who cares. How does this advance the storyline?

OK - Showing how the Smoke Monster was created was useful, but if the Man in Black (as Christian) instructed Locke to turn the donkey wheel, couldn't he have just turned it himself and left the island.

I have loved Lost since the beginning. I rarely have any complaints about it, but I thought last night was a major mis-step, and depending how things go, they could totally blow the ending of the series.

It's too late for the information they sort of served up last night. This could have all easily been covered in a flashback in another episode. To devote an entire hour to it (and ask new questions, which is so not what is needed right now!) was a waste. Not pleased.

Tyler and I just watched the episode and were confused on one timing issue...

Did the mom and jacob's brother die before or after the Black Rock crashing ashore?

Because didn't evil guy show up to Richard in his normal form? And now if he's dead and separated from his body can't he not go back in it? But then didn't he need a body to take or something!?!?

Confused!

^I'm going to have to say this epsiode was before the Black Rock crashed and that the form that Jacob was talking to as the BlackRock approached was Smokey in Men in Black form. It seems Smokey is always able to take the shape of a dead person, although it is not clear why in the present he can not change from John Locke to someone else's form. Must be some unexplained rule, like whoever he appears as at when Jacob dies becomes his permanent "human" form. But either way, another question.

The other thing that makes me believe this epsiode happened before Black Rock was the wine bottle that the "mother" shared with Jacob. It appeared to be the same bottle that the Man in Black broke when the Black Rock was coming, or was that after the ship crashed.

The time period of this episode was 20 A.D. or something like that. After reading some spoiler sites, I assumed everyone knew that but I just realized they never showed that during the show. So yeah, it was quite a bit before the black rock and MIB was just taking the form of his old body. With all the development that has happened on the island, (the lighthouse, temple, ruins, etc.) Jacob brought several groups of people to the island before the black rock.

As for why his skeleton was still there, remember that Locke's body is still on the island and he has taken form in Locke's body. I think we can assume that Christian Sheppard's body is still on the island somewhere after MIB took his form.

This is long before the Blackrock, before the Temple was built, before the Statue, etc .. This is centuries and centuries ago.

I enjoyed seeing everything that happened in that episode, but I think it would have been cooler if it was spread out a bit more. This season had so many episodes where people were just walking around, they needed to split this episode up a bit.

I've been talking about it with a friend of mine and we have some theories..

1) The story actually ends when Juliette exploded the bomb, and we (the narrative) will return there at some point.

2) is Hurley related to Jacob/MIB? Their birth-mother was Spanish, and MIB can talk to dead people. Perhaps that's why Jacob brought Hurley to the Island.

3) Jack is going to sacrifice his life for the island - making a full transition to "man of faith".

4) Juliette will be back (sorry Elissa!), and she and Sawyer will be back together.

5) Everyone else will probably die, or at least be insignificant (like Ben and Richard have become).

6) It would be cool if the whole show ends with another group of people being brought to the Island as another iteration begins. MIB would say to Jacob "well, here we go again!". Personally I think that would be a great way for the show to end, however it's a commercial TV show and will thus likely end with Jacob "winning" - it only ends once, the MIB is dead or contained, and Hurley is in charge of the island.

I would be very surprised if we see the origins of The Light .. Whether it's supernatural or spiritual or whatever.

Claudia did have "toga-like" clothes but I attributed it to the pregnancy. What langauge was Claudia speaking when she arrived, was it Latin or Spanish? I can't recall.

The clothes that the others in the village were wearing looked more middle ages than Roman times, although the knife that the MiB had was more Roman looking. Either way, older than the Black Rock.

So...for two seasons, all Sun and Jin did on the show was look for each other. They finally find each other, and they're dead.

People die randomly in real life, with no care for story arcs, but I expect more than that from fiction.

Frankly, on a show with so much talk of "purpose," major character deaths should--at the very least--serve to save or help other major characters. This just felt pointless.

How about this .. The final scene of the series will be Jack and Locke on the beach, playing that little game, as the new Jacob and Man In Black (recreating the scene at the end of season 5).

The episode this coming Tuesday will likely be about Eloise (and Charles Widmore). I'm pretty confident that Eloise is actually on the dark side, wanting the alternate timeline to continue so that her son (Daniel) isn't dead. Just like Man In Black promised Sayid that he could see Nadia again, Eloise made the same deal. She knows so much more than she should, and she insisted that Locke's body be brought back to the island - for the Man In Black to use. She also doesn't want Desmond to meet Penny in the alternate timeline, because she knows that he'll figure it out and then try to undo it (restoring the timeline where she has killed her son Daniel).

I definitely think it will be Jack, but I think Smokey's replacement will be another character not Locke. I have thought the same thing about Eloise and hope they don't just leave her character open.

Also, all of you Ben lovers out there will not be disappointed after this next episode Tuesday night.

crazy great episode. Hell yeah for Desmond.

And yes, I'm having a LOST party on Sunday. Normally i make one LOST bread a week. I take a loaf of french bread, cut it open and fill it with a nice mixture, then bake it for 10-15 minutes. I started this tradition during season 3, doing many breads, such as chicken parmasean, mexican, andouille and shrimp, cheese steak, chicken fajita, club, fried catfish, new orleans style bbq shrimp, crawfish bread, cheeseburger, breakfast, shrimp almondine, cane's chicken, meatball, french toast, etc. The list goes on and on, but we've done this every week since season 3, and now I'm planning a big bash for the finale.

Our LOST breads will be bbq shrimp, mahi mahi, chicken parm, and french toast. We're gonna have some Dharma beer and just enjoy the ending of the greatest show in history. It's definitely bittersweet, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I just hope I can function on Monday.

Island going to blow up?

(I also enjoyed how they put together Ben, Rousseau and Alex in the side-ways timeline. Very sweet.)

went to the local showing of the live NY Times interview with Damon and Carlton tonight. It was live, and broadcast to over 500 theaters across the country. It was a lot of fun, and Emerson and Garcia eventually showed up. They also showed us a clip from the finale on Sunday. The good thing was that it wasn't spoilery, but definitely wet my appetite for the finale on sunday.

All in all, I'm glad I decided to go.
