obeygiant Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 $85?! That is so cheap! Eventhough I have annual passes there, that is still such a good deal. But, this guarentees that I won't be going to Disney for a long time.
pvcoasterguy Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Damn, That's a really good deal. Disney, though they usually don't take many hits, may actually take a hit from this... that is a darn good deal.
ParkTrips Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 It is a great deal but it also says "for a limited time" - I have to wonder if it won't be gone by next spring - or even the Christmas season. They even have that Disney comparison on their site, and I'm suprised Disney still gets more people into one of their pars than Universal.
mr_teisco_delrey Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Maybe they are trying to keep all the people that would have gone to Cypress Gardens from going to Disney.
BarryH Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 ^Hey man, Cypress Gardens is the bestest park there! I defy Universal and Disney to have a bigger collection of Zamperala rides!
Bob O Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 This will have no effect od wdw at all. They are popular enough that they dont have to give away there gate to gain in attendance Now if Universal would add more attractions more frequently maybe they wouldnt have to do this ploy to gain attendance.

Sir Clinksalot Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 This is a great deal, if you don't have kids. They fail to mention they took away the $100 2-day pass (with 3 days free) that also gave you 2 free kids (9 and under) tickets. So instead of our 2 or 3 days next month costing us $200, it's now going to cost us $340. As much as I want to go to USF/IOA this might make us skip those parks.

Nothing Universal does will ever please you Disney fanatics. They've added a new attraction in each of the past three years, by the way. One of them being an e-ticket.
Imhotep Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Woot!! talk about good timing. We have alot of family / friends coming in for our wedding in December, and they were planning on going to universal anyways.. Now they will have more to do! I give this thread 5 pounds
disneyfan1313 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 It is a great deal but it also says "for a limited time" - I have to wonder if it won't be gone by next spring - or even the Christmas season. They even have that Disney comparison on their site, and I'm suprised Disney still gets more people into one of their pars than Universal. It will probably be only this fall if I had to guess.. It is very similar to Sea Worlds ticket for the "length of stay" if you buy a 1d ticket. Uni and WDW are two very different markets. There is some crossover but there is not as much cannibalization as you would think.
BarryH Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 ^You would think with all the competition and things we've seen at Universal and WDW, one was trying to nuke the other off the Orlando map!

It's actually still a great deal even if you DO have kids. Not every promotion lasts an eternity, and compared to the prices from even a year ago, this is a STEAL for people who want another park option during the entire time for their Orlando stay. I remember a day where if you wanted to park hop Universal & IOA for ONE DAY it would cost you over $100. This new ticket pricing is already much cheaper than that! Yes, perhaps the previous deal might have been better for a family of 4, but c'mon, $50 each for a 5 day pass is INSANELY cheap. How long did you really expect that deal to last? Even if you did only spend 2 or 3 days at Universal next month paying the new price that's only $28 per person per day. How is that a bad deal? --Robb "Just because it's bad timing for you doesn't make it a bad deal." Alvey
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 ^ Absolutely not a bad deal. Like I said, it's a GREAT DEAL!!!! But not for us. We will most likely end up paying it anyway because we want to go to Universal. I should have gotten the other deal when I saw it and not assumed it would still be around. We just wanted to make sure we got our MNSSHP tickets and made that the priority.
YoshiFan Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 If they are advertising $85 is less than the price of a 1 day Disney park hopper, I'm almost scared to know what the actual price Disney is charging for that. Edit- I decided to look it up for myself. $112 for a 1 day Disney park hopper?!?! That is ridiculous. I thought Morey's charging $350 for a season's pass was the biggest ripoff in the theme park/amusement industry but I think this is worse.
robbalvey Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 ^ You also have to remember - how many people REALLY buy a Disney "one day park hopper." The fair comparison would be $71 for a one-day, one park Disney ticket, or $85 for a 1 day Universal Ticket, which also happens to be a Park hopper. Still a great deal IMO! --Robb

I thought Morey's charging $350 for a season's pass was the biggest ripoff in the theme park/amusement industry but I think this is worse. A one day park hopper was not even offered as an option until the Magic Your Way tickets started a year and a half ago. Before that if you wanted to go into multiple parks on the same day you had to buy individual 1day tickets at each one. The reason why? Very few people can/want to do more than one WDW park in a day just as Robb said below.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I agree with Robb and DisneyFan. You can't just say all of a sudden that Disney is overpriced compared to this. As Robb said, how many people actually go to Disney for 1 day??? A few do, but the vast majority probably go for 3 or more days. A 3-day adult parkhopper is $237 which is $79.00 per day. Still a great deal IMO. But from a 3-day ticket to a 10-day ticket there is only a difference of $27!!!! So at Disney, it pays to go longer because the daily cost is less ... which is exactly what Disney wants.
Bob O Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Im not a disney fanatic though im a disney fan as well as a Universal fan and visit both parks when i go to FLA and stay on site at USF due to fotl!! But the only attraction of note that has been added in the last couple of years is The Mummy coaster which is great, but nothing big has been added to IOA in a LONG TIME. Does anyone think USF wants to offer this deal??? They would much perfer that people would be willing to pay the current price they charge than have to offer this deal in a attempt to get people into the park. It is a great deal and hope they have it when i visit,
Coaster Palooza Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Just out of curiosity, I don't see a date that you MUST first use the ticket by. Does anyone know if you have to use the ticket by a specific date? What I am wondering is: if you buy the ticket now, but don't use it until next year (maybe September '07, or even later), is the ticket still good? It is a really good deal and if you can pick it up at the park, you won't loose it! I remember Disneyland's tickets had a "first use" by a specific date.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 From Universals Website: How long will my tickets be available for pick up at the Electronic Ticketing Machines? Once you purchase your tickets online they will be available for pickup from any electronic ticketing machine immediately after you complete your purchase, and will remain available until they are picked up. This means that whether you decide to pick up your tickets the next day, the next month, or the next year after you complete your purchase, your order will be securely stored in the system until you arrive to collect the tickets you purchased
