Jumboshrmp Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I wonder if anyone else feels the same way I do about this. When I ride a coaster, I like to have a graceful, flying sensation, and I love airtime. Particularly in inverted coasters, but these seem to be the biggest offenders in this area. I like when a ride takes its inversions slower, so you get disorienting hangtime at the top. I dont like when it tears right through the loop. Comparing a ride like Batman or Dueling Dragons to Montu, I definitely rate Montu much higher, because it isnt so "forceful" that it makes all other sensation go away. This is why my favorite loop is the loop on Kumba. Plenty of time to savor the upside down view. Does anyone else feel this way about some rides? Particularly with inverted coasters? Most people I talk to think I am crazy for disliking inversions with a lot of force. I like force in certain spots, like at the bottom of a batwing, pretzel loop, or helix. But when it's all over the entire track, I think it somewhat makes the experience less exciting. If you are constantly plastered to your seat, you cant feel any tipping or inversions. So, who else agrees with me, or at least can understand my views?
goleafsgo Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 well i have to disagree with ou a bit there. I really liked Montus loop, but Kumbas i thought was way too slow. I find that rides are kinda boring is they dont have forces with the inversions...
FlyingScooter Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 When I want a forceless flying sensation, i usually ride something like a Yo-Yo or Paratrooper. Those are about as forceless as you can get. They work for me.
fbk2711 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I actually feel the same way. I do like some high G's, but i think too much ruins the ride.
vjgx Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 On inverted coasters, I love fast loops. On normal sitdowns or floorless, I like a loop that's a good combination between force and hangtime...
pkdcoaster Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I like them both. Probably the best example of 2 high G loops and 2 very forceless ones are on Anaconda at PKD, The first 2 loops are really fast and have high Gs then the Corkscrews are Really slow and you hang on them. JEFF
timetrial3141592 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I saw a "forceless loop" coaster on CoasterSims.com a while ago. It was called "The Big Dig" and every single one of the first 5 inversions hit 0.0 vertical Gs at the top. If Robb Alvey permits me to upload it here (it is not my work), I will.

JEFF Thats one of the things I like about the corkscrews on non-B&M coasters. I think corkscrews on B&M have too much force at the top, and are shaped too tight, and it's one of my least favorite elements. On python at BGA and Rock 'n' Roller coaster at MGM, those corkscrews were a lot of fun. I saw a "forceless loop" coaster on CoasterSims.com a while ago. It was called "The Big Dig" and every single one of the first 5 inversions hit 0.0 vertical Gs at the top. If Robb Alvey permits me to upload it here (it is not my work), I will. That sounds like so much fun.

Why should you upload someone elses work on this site? If anyone really wants to see that track it can be found HERE Anyway, I prefer intense loops and inversions, but I also enjoy these so called 'forceless' coasters like Superman la Attracion de Acero.
Johnny Upsidedown Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 For me I really dont have a preference. Different rides have different effects and G forces. Take a Batman invert with crazy speedy loops, compared to Montus large loop that has some float, or Sheikra immelman which has extream floater air. All are great forces. I like all kinds of different forces even though they are the same elements. It kinda makes each coaster unique. Some coasters have lots of power some are more tame. Guess thats what makes traveling and riding alot of differnt coasters fun because you just never know what kind of ride each coaster will be..
kingdanny Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I'm not a fan of high G's. MindBender(SFOG) has positive and negative G's in most seats. In the first row of the fourth car, you barely feel anything in the loops but you still feel the airtime. The same is with Ninja(SFOG) except there isn't any airtime. Sit in the first row of the fourth car, you get a kind of smooth and forceless ride. Anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

It';s mostly that I think if you can't feel an inversion (meaning get some air at the top), it's wasted.
Golfie Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Rides with strong forces make the whole experience exciting. Such as Batman at SFGAm. You are pretty much pushed into your seat for the whole time. If there weren't many forces, all you would focus on would be the layout, instead of the thrills. It would make a much more boring ride. Andrew "Forces. Good." C.

easytoremember Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 loops are about the only thing I like forceless. I do love hang time, but also, there must be other elements to counter balance the forcelessness.(Is that even a word). Ex. Kumba has a forceless loop, but the other elements are not forceless at all.

What I tried to imply is that Batman has a rather boring layout, but the forces make it exciting!
YoshiFan Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I like an occasional forceless ride when I want to take a break from riding more forceful rides. With Hydra for example, I can go for ride after ride and not feel anything but if I ride Talon too much like 6 times in a day, I sometimes get a headache.
steel Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 ^You are physically able to ride Talon more than twice in a day? I definately agree with you. Well, for the most part. Hydra was wildly boring. I think forcefulness is great in moderation. But when every element on a ride is constant positive force, the ride sucks, e.g. Talon. I cannot stand blacking out. I think it's completely unnecessery. A ride can be perfectly enjoyable without this. Look at Millennium Force. As a general rule, if a ride disables me (as Talon did - couldn't feel my legs afterward) it has too much force. I must say, however, that I did enjoy GL's Double Loop, even with the intnse g's during the loops.
kingdanny Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I like loops with no positive or negatives forces. That's probably why I like Ninja(SFOG) alot as well as MindBender(SFOG) in the middle alot.
imbordisux Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I love Hydra - talk about absolutely HANGING out of your seat on inversions.
Golfie Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 ^Same could be said about Raging Bull. Despite its height, it's a rather slow and forceless ride, which is everything you DON'T want a hypercoaster to be.

And on an inverted coaster, if there is a huge turnaround, I would rather have a huge slow sweeping turn with a lot of air than a fast turn that pulls 4 Gs
apollo210 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Well I both agree and disagree. On Loch Ness monster, I liked it, the helix was forceless, the loops had good hangtime etc. But the Ejector Seat first dro was great! On Big Bad wolf, I thought the Positive Gs on the bottom were ok, I didn't find it insane, mayne it was where I sat. But on the first 3 turns, they were kind of forceless and slow which was boring and the helix was faster and positive Gs were insane! I loved it! On Apollo's Chariot was a forceless floater air ride, but the bottom of the first drop had good Positive Gs which were good, since I sat on the side, I felt like I was going to fall into the river! and the first time I blacked out and I was "OMG! I died!" It was fun, so I'nm neutral to Positive Gs.
mf_4_lyf3 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 ehhh floorless can be fub but personaly i think that people make too big of a deal of them I would rather have a flying or an inverted then a floorless coaser
