SharkTums Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 ^Yeah, trust me we've seen it! What a lot of people don't realize is how much the exchange rate really changes things, even things you would think are constant. Airfare was a big one. Most of the airfare is priced out in Euro's meaning that our airfare was about $200 more than we expected it to be because of the poor exchange rate. Gas which is already expensive is even more expensive because of the rate, and so much more! Heck, at least we're not going to the UK where it's even worse! All of you Europeans should come to the US NOW where it's dirt cheap! Elissa "$1.00 sodas and $35 hotel rooms" Alvey
kenshinmac Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Heck yes they should. Support the US where tourism is cheap as chips. You can fly to the US for less now and even stay in all sorts of places for less than you probably would in europe. Who knows in a few years you will be able to wipe your nose with our currency... Yep I see good things in store for the dollar... :?
CoasterFanatic Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 ^ & ^^ I noticed this on my last trip to Orlando at the end of October. I know that is normally a very popular "holiday" time for Europeans, but the percentages were way off the norm. // The ACE trip to Japan is costing Boku money for this reason
robbalvey Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 ^ Except it shouldn't be. Don't get me started on the ACE Japan trip, but we figured that we could do the EXACT same trip but with more flexibilty and hit MORE parks for about $1,500 less. I'm sure it will be a fun trip and all, but looking at the final itinerary and cost both Elissa and I were like....    --Robb
Carnage Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 And then on top of all that, you have the exchange rates to deal with, which, unless you are going to Canada, is NOT in our favor. --Robb And even that is not what it used to be. The Canadian dollar has been on a huge surge the last while. Not really good for you guys, but great for me whenever I go on trips to the US. I don't pay nearly as bad exchange rates as I used to.
downunder Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 From the reports I have had about Rideworld's inaugaral tour it sounded like it was a fantastic success. I did Cedar Point, Six Flags New England, Hersheypark and Great Adventure in 4 days all by public transport last year and believe me that was tough. For foreigners to the USA like me who don't want to drive and economise by going in a group, a tour would be a great option. If there is a tour on this year I would certianly consider it - at the moment I was tentaively planning on hitting Cedar Point, Michigan's Adventure, Geauga Lake and Great Adventure late August/early September before going on a two week trek america tour then going back to Cali to hit Disney, Knott's etc, maybe head down to Cabo San Lucas too.
Real Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 ^ & ^^ I noticed this on my last trip to Orlando at the end of October. I know that is normally a very popular "holiday" time for Europeans, but the percentages were way off the norm. // The ACE trip to Japan is costing Boku money for this reason Its even worse. I was just in FL at WDW and IOA/USF for a week and wow, Ive never seen or heard more British (Euro in general) in those parks. Considering a lady I talked to who works for the British Gov. told me that their silver pound is worth twice as much as our dollar, trips from Britain to US are freakin CHEAP! What would be a 2,000 dollar trip for us costs them something around 1,000 pounds, or, 1,000 dollars. Its crazy, but what can ya do?!

The dollar hasn't been worth 1 pound for ages if ever. Sure the pound is worth more now than it used to be but I mean it has always been like $1.20 or more. I don't really understand what you are trying to say. 1,000 pounds is 1,000 pounds you can't compare it to dollars or anything like that.
Carnage Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 ^ Blame Canada! // Sorry Paul. Hehe. That was one of the motos for the Rideworld East Coast Trek. We played the South Park movie early on in the trek. Actually it was pretty much around there that everyone started to get comfortable with each other, really started to get nutty after that. Actually the ironic thing is that the rising Canadian dollar actually hurts us more then it helps. Because we rely so much on exports the stronger dollar makes it more expensive for other countries to buy our products.
Cid Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I think its a fun concept, but I don't think I'd ever have the time or money to do it. Working at Cedar Point makes it hard to hit any park outside of a days drive because I have a 6 day week working schedule for the entire coaster season. Beyond that I have to penny pinch the entire offseason if I want to keep my appt. Like I siad fun concept, but I don't think I'd be able to make one. Maybe in a few years when I make more I could manage a FL or CA, offseason trip.
joshg678 Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I would like to hit all the parks in CA, but almost everyone whats to do this, probably not the best idea. Lets say a trip would cost about $120 a day, (lets just say). We hit 10 parks in 2 weeks (again, just saying). That would be about $2,040 for that trip. So i can tell we are talking about a lot of money for some large trips. Next year I will qualify for my new job, making $30,000+ a year (not bad for an 18 yr old). So for me, taking a trip like this (unless my parents pay for it) will probably not be able to be done for me for 2 years from now. But if we went on a small trip for about $600-$800 total for the trips i would definitely go.
J man Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Sounds like fun but I doubt I would be able to make it to one of these trips. It would be kinda cool to meet up with Robb & Elissa when I go to Magic Mountain later this year in the fall.
Jew Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 For anyone planning on going on these trips if/when they happen, let me just tell you from first hand experience that writing $1,000 checks to Robb and Elissa isn't fun! -Joey "still owe them lots of money" Mandel
SharkTums Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Yeah I'm still surprised you paid up for your airfare so fast! Elissa "silly Joey" Alvey
socalMAN123 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 ^Brings back memories, eh? "The apocalypse is here! Joey has paid up for his part of the Europe trip!"
robbalvey Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 I just want to say thanks to everyone who has filled out the survey. It's been really helpful determining what kind of trips we may eventually put together. If you haven't had a chance to fill it out yet, please do so: http://www.themeparkreview.com/question.htm Thanks again everyone! --Robb
PhishyBrewer Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I want to go on a coaster trip now! How about now? Now? And, how about now?
robbalvey Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 OK, time to unsticky this topic. Thanks again to all your feedback. Elissa and I are right now working out the possibilty of doing an organized trip next year.
