ParkTrips Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Why? Its not that bad of a park. They are actually getting better, just a bit understaffed. I personally believe the park was better last year than this year.
coaster1 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 so, what did shapiro think of sfot? it'll probably never be sold cause it is the original park... Well ... they CAN'T sell something they don't own .. like SFOT and SFOG.
CoasterFanatic Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ^ Nope. He will just have a one-on-one with God and implement the "Jazzland" option.
Golfie Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 It's nice to see that Shapiro likes SFGAm. When we first started going, it was kept up very badly. Over the years with their new attractions and such, SFGAm has turned into a wonderful park.

okinawaboy11 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Now that I read that article, I can EASILY see SFA going. And can almost perfectly see Housing sitting on its land. Condo's and Townhouses just opened accross the street from the entrance, I can see them coming across the street into SFA land if it's sold.
Corkscrewed Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 times like these, I wish I was a billionaire who could indulge by buying a theme park.
Jon Sabo Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 ^I hope your 'unlimited budget' makes use in investing in quality training, employees, pay/benefits, and a lifetime supply of Goody's Headache powder.
Gnome Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Ha Ha. SFGAdv isn't on the "untouchables" list! Guess there are just too many people having sex on the ferris wheel. Sounds kinky.
GAcoaster Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Ummmm, I really think everyone keeps misreading this. This "no-touch" list is parks that don't need fixing, not that are exempt from sale. If you look at those parks, they all have a good balance of thrills and family attractions, decent theme elements and are generally what he wants all the parks to be like. Parks like Great Adventure need improvements in terms of maintenance, additions of family attractions, etc. I think GA (and most of the other SF parks not on the 6-park hit list from the conference call) are safe from sale in the near term...they just require more investments and TLC than those "no-touch" parks.
alpengeist04 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 ^I have to agree with GAcoaster on this one. Shapiro called Fiesta Texas a "no-touch park," one of the six best parks in the chain. The others are in Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, New England and Lake George, N.Y. Is this the quote that started this thread? ...really all that article talks about is SFFT and that a turn around won't happen overnight, not much else. Oh, and it also mentions the 6 parks for possible sale, which we already knew about.
SpartanTS Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 If SFMM and SFGAdv aren't on the list, i'm starting to think that they're not all that profitable, or they've been in the red for a while now. They should let the original owner of Magic Mountain buy it back for the $250k he sold it for.

Parks like Great Adventure need improvements in terms of maintenance, additions of family attractions, etc. I think if you read the context in which the quote was made, its more along the lines of the six parks that he won't sell. I'd say that most if not all of the parks in the chain need some serious help, with only maybe 1 or 2 parks that are ok.
alpengeist04 Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Who really knows what Shapiro will do. He seems to change his mind often, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Jon Sabo Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 He's going to become a 'flip-flopper' just like John Kerry was. Remember it's election season....hmm. I agree. Shapiro may not know what will happen himself, because the Staubach Co. still is in the final stages of their report on each park analysis, the estimated cost of sale of the potential park(s)..etc.. The report is hope to be completed by end of the summer or by October at the latest (I think the next major shareholders meeting is in Oct. as well).
