P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

I was just watching this home video from 1988 when I went with my brother, mom and dad, and the queue line for Ninja was all the way down pass where today Superman: The Escape is. It was a new ride in 1988, and I filmed a little of Shockwave, but not much. I did however film Z-Force, the upside down rocking space shuttle ride, and got good footage of it back then. The queue line for Shockwave was long too, and weird to see no Deja Vu. There's various other shots from the park filmed, including on-ride video of Goldrusher.

Back in 1988, there wasn't any video cell phones or digital cameras, so I had to hold a big video camera, and they allowed it on board Jet Stream and Goldrusher, and didn't say a thing. However, today if you tried that, even with a digital camera, they will tell you to get off. I have to now burn that to a DVD-R later this week.

It's weird watching it, and seeing how empty the park looks without the current line-up of rides and attractions.

I do hope they upgrade Scream and Goliath's landscaping a bit, just give it some color, and added scenery elements.

I am sure in a couple months, we'll find out what Six Flags Magic Mountain has plans for 2010, or maybe not. I have a strong feeling that the attraction planned for 2010 will go where Flashback used to be, and I hope they remove the old station house structure, because there is no need for it.

Anyways, I am just ranting on, later.

^ I agree about an upgrade of some sort to Scream!, but I still like Goliath's theming. The "ancient" artifacts are definitely still a good fit with the ride.

I remember seeing the plans somewhere for Goliath that Time Warner had drawn out before they sold SF to Premier. Goes without saying when the ride was built after the sale most of that theming was not there (same with Raging Bull at SFGAm).

^ Well first of all your not going 85 mph but for a couple seconds. Second, your in a tunnel for less than one second. And third, your relativley close to the ground for the remainder of the ride. I think adding landscaping under the ride would add quite a lot to the experience.

That is the mentality that brought the park to their knees with the old management.

How many trees would they need to pass by in the 1-2 seconds that you're in the tunnel to add quite a lot to the experience?

In a rare moment of seriousness, there are a couple of things that could "plus" Goliath a bit. Enclose the station to block out surrounding distractions. Put tunnels before the station and/or between the station and lift with special effects inside---even some kind of lighting or sound.

A lot of times, I think theming attractions individually would work better than trying to tie them into an entire land or area.

I really wish they would do something about Deja Vu, it isnt that great of a ride and the rider capacity is HORRIBLE. Also if you do try and wait it out it breaks down quite frequently ( being a season pass holder for 7 years and living 2 hours for Magic Mountain I got 8-10 times a year and have ridden it twice! )

hm, they should enclose the entire queue within some sort of building so you do not have to hear superman!

i like goliath's theming by the way!

I'm not saying add trees in the tunnel, I mean inside the perimeter fence. If they were to add some color under the ride (under the second half of the ride) it would be a better tie in to the themeing they have in the queue. It was said before that the artist rendering of the ride showed a lot of landscaping to the ride but when six flags was bought by premier parks it never happened. If the artist wouldn't have thought it looked good then he wouldn't have drawn it with all the landscaping.

Same here, Goliath I think is the last ride that I would touch for a makeover.

Personally, I love Deja Vu. It is popular and somehow it looks that they got the kinks worked out. Granted it took 7 years, but from what I understand it runs just fine these days

They could add a giant defibrillator in the middle of the Helix of Death...

Yea I remember hearing that because of the fire dangers in the Santa Clarita Valley they werent going to do any more fireworks until further notice. Although I was a bit dissapointed in that decision, I think it is a wise thing to do, not to mention it will save them money.

Or they could build a temple around the helix with lights and sounds of blood-curdling screaming.

Call it the helix/sacrifice of death.
