Dania Beach Hurricane Declares Bankruptcy
coasternut replied to digidoc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I drove by the Dania Beach Hurricane today to see if anything was happening. It's still standing, but the rails are now rusted. I've heard here locally a few months ago, that it would be moved to the Miami Zoo. If that's true, nothing visibly has happened to it. Just a shame. I really enjoyed that ride. I hope it gets a good home nearby so I can ride it again. -
I too was at (pre) media day for Vu. I was there for X, but it was so delayed that I got the chance to ride VU early. This ride sent me to the hospital. It wasn't the ride's fault. They were still doing landscaping while I was riding, and on the slow descent into the station (I was in the last row), a bee got between the OTSR and my skull. I was stung and ended up going to Mayo hospital nearby. I've ridden it many times since with no incident. Adios Vu and the bees...

It has! It's not going the same speed as when it opened. The ride in the last row (my favorite) has gotten rough with laterals the past several years. They need to work on this ride to return it to it's former self. I rode it this past August on the first train of the day and had NO AIRTIME. The train was moving so slow that we almost "valleyed" before the picture tunnel. That is a dramatic loss of speed... -

In all honesty, they are completely different rides. MF is more "majestic", with gradual airtime and graceful transitions that still show off the speed but don't overdue it. i305 is mean, with forceful airtime and transitions at 90mph, and is one of the most intense rides on the planet. Whatever type of ride you prefer, really. You really hit the nail on the head there braztaz. Over the years Millie has really her lost airtime, and visual appeal. -

I usually just hate when they make an announcement targeting someone specific and they never listen. It gets annoying to hear it over and over again because someone thinks they are above the rules. Are ride ops allowed to specifically call a person out? Because it would be better if they did and just said "you in the yellow shirt, get down," instead of having to repeat "please do not sit on the handrails" over and over again. It really is annoying having to hear that when one person just can't stand up. Not sure if they're allowed, but I've heard that before many times at different parks. -

You need to ride the front - rows 1 or 2 in the first train. For me pure heaven. I'm sure I'll get trashed for this comment, but for me It's my fav at C.P. Yes, better than MF, Maverick (don't like), TTD, WT and of course MS. Just my personal preference - lots of airtime, no lines and I can ride all day without getting "beaten up." -

I love Blue Streak. It's got great airtime for a 76' hill. In the front the airtime is out and back. Yes, it was a great ride all season, when I was there for Coastermania and for my August vacation. It's the type of ride I can do all day, get my airtime and not get beat up. Also very rarely does it have a line. I'd love a GCI or Intamin woodie there... -
It is now a strip mall including Home Depot etc. Not a good change.

When did you go in August? I go to Ohio (my old home) for 2 weeks (Sandusky & Cincinnati) in August. It seems busier during early August. I guess that's because the kids are still out of school. Maybe the week before Labor day? What's your experience? -
Deep South Bash 2011 Official Update!

Another Great TPR "Bash!" Thanks Rob, TPR staff and most importantly SFOG. They keep getting better all the time. It was worth my 14 hour flight(s) from Alaska to be there. Keep up the great work guys and gals. -

It's got to be very expensive since El Toro (my true love) is the only original one. -

Yeah, that was for SOB. I do remember hearing that it would be expensive for Mean Streak, though I forget how much... You guys are correct. That number was for SOB, not Mean Streak. I guess I've ridden too many coasters (not possible) and it scrambled my brains. -

Big Dick said the $22 Million number, so I'm guessing it was realistic. -
Why so much hate? Déjà Vu was an awesome ride! No biggy loosing Deja Vu in my opinion. I was there for media day, and it sent me to the hospital there in Santa Clarita. It really wasn't the ride's fault. On the final hold before you're slowly lowered into the station to get off, I was stung by a bee near my temple. It was pinned between the OTSR and my head. I'm allergic to bee stings, so I had to go to Mayo hospital E.R. A good time was had by all except for the bee... That is my fond memory of this ride.

While I'd love to see the "Rocky Mountain Treatment" (NTAG) for Mean Streak, it won't happen. That question was asked during the "lovefest for Big Dick" at Coastermania this past June. He said they looked at it, and they won't spend $22 Mill. for a rework of an existing ride. I tend to agree with this. Very seldom do I agree with anything Big Dick says or does the past several years. My guess they'll get a new coaster back there someday. The key word there is someday. Who knows what this new CEO will do. Rest in peace -- Big Dick... -

Ha - That's why they've got those stupid otsr on the trains. What a joke! -
I (Season Pass holder) was there on Wed. (Aug 31), and it was a very pleasant, relaxing day without the huge crowds normally seen on weekends. The weather was not too hot, I too like how Magic Mountain is looking these days. There was plenty of shade around from trees, queue canopies, and umbrella covered outdoor tables. Got a Ben n Jerry's Cherrie Garcia and kicked it under the shade in front of Green Lantern: FF. Watched one train rotate at least 6 times, it was hilarious! The ride ops on ALL the rides I went on also seemed high spirited. They carried conversations with the us in the queues waiting for our turn to ride. Had such a great time there, I treated myself (and rewarded SFMM) by buying almost $40 worth of SFMM merchandise, but the cashier graciously asked me if I had a Season Pass, and got 15% off! Just past 5pm, with funnel cake in my hand, I was still greeted on my way out by a SFMM employee...hoping he could have some, ha! As for Deja Vu, I don't feel so bad now seeing it go. I've had my share of rides on it, and it instantly became one of my favorites. It's going to another SF park who I think needs the ride a lot more than we do. We're so spoiled here, by 2013 I believe there will be a new coaster standing in its place that will be just as good or better! Looks like I will be renewing my Season Pass, bring on Lex Luthor: DoD 2012! I totally agree with your comments about the staff at MM being great. I haven't been there in over 4 months (prior to GL), but I spent a lot of time during the first 4 months of the year. There is really a great turn around in the staff's attitudes there. The same cannot be said for virtually all the Cedar Fair parks I've visited this summer (especially Cedar Point). Keep up the good work 6 Flags - especially Magic Mountain. I can't wait to get back there!
