Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
coasternut replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My best ride (pre-Cedar Fair trims) was at night right after a rainstorm. There was a mist hanging over the entire layout, and it really flew around the circuit. I'll be back in August and will go out of my way to ride after dark again. Thanks for reminding me. I also look forward to riding Diamondback again. I just love it's cousin, Intimidator at Carowinds. -
I'm sure this has been mentioned before about Cheetah Hunt, but I hate those hard Intamin OTSR's. I wonder why (since it is a new ride), they end up with those? I got 10 rides (single ride line open) on 7/5 after 6pm in 2 hours. I've definitely got bruises on both shoulders to prove it. The ride opened 45 minutes late today, so I only got 1 ride in at opening. It's a good ride and I enjoy it, although I doubt the 60mph claim. It's still a great addition to the Garden!

Are you kidding dedicated Cedar Fair employees! That may have been true 3 or 4 years ago, but no more. I go to Cedar Fair parks all over the country, and it's bad all over. I do hope he can turn it around. "Big Dick" Kinzel, just killed it in his old age. I'm glad he's gone or at least on his way out. Let's hope for a great new ride for poor old Knotts. They deserve it.

Amen brother!!! -
Six Flags raises parking fees.

Really? You expect to park for free? I could see if maybe the rate is unexpected, but not the fact that you have to pay to park. It's the increase in the parking fee, not paying for parking!!! -

I agree mostly with this comment. I certainly can afford the increased parking fee, but this is a "hidden cost" that's not anticipated. I'd see them increase the admission fee (in my opinion too low), and leave the parking fee stable across all parks. I'd even pay extra, and suggested this for a 6 Flags "parking pass" accepted at all parks like it used to be. They need to make money. I know this because I'm a stock holder, but there are better ways to do this instead of the surprise when you enter the gate = your first impression. -
Looks like I may (key word may) enjoy this ride. I was expecting a "spin and puke" ride, but this looks to be (if they load properly) a controlled ride. Maybe I'll enjoy it, but I won't hold my breath. I'm looking just to get the ride credit, but I may enjoy. I don't like X2, hence my worry on this one. We'll see...

I agree! I'd pay more for a chain wide parking pass. I just don't want the hassle of digging for cash to enter. I visit many different 6 flags parks over the season. While on the subject of prices, they certainly could significantly increase those prices, and still be reasonable. Those prices are too low. -

You did luck out! If you read the back of you pass it states parking is free (if you bought parking) for the park listed on the front only. This is costing me this season. Magic Mountain enforced this with me in mid January. -

As I said on an earlier post, "Big Dick" Kinzel said (at the Coastermania meeting) they priced it and it would cost $20 million to get the "Rocky Mountain treatment." Obviously, they already looking into that option. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

While yes I agree if there was a problem Cedar Fair would be all over it but it wasn't really his decision to trim the many wooden coasters at least not because he is a "conservative" person. Trims most of the time are in place to save the ride from beating itself up. I remember talking to some people at Cedar Point and they told me how after the first season it was clear the only way to save Mean Streak from tearing itself apart was to trim it. It's funny the The Beast at K.I. never had trims (especially on the first down hill) for 20 + years. It should've come down by now. They now have 4 sets of "Cedar Fair" trims, it just ruins the pacing of the ride. As for Mean Streak, that's another story. I wish it would tear itself down and do us all a favor. I rode it in the evening at Coastermania with out most of the trims and it was acceptable. I rode it the next day with the G.P. and it sucked. -
Here is a link to an article posted on the local paper -- Sandusky Register. Looks like Matt is moving from the O.C. to "climate challenged" Sandusky. This is from their Facebook page. He said as you'll see he wants Cedar Point to remain their crown jewel??? He's got a lot of work to do... https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpointbuzz.com%2FNewsStory.aspx%3Fid%3D1684&h=407ff

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
coasternut replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar Fair and most especially Cedar Point, is very safety conscious. Their director of Safety Monty Jasper (located in Sandusky) is a very, very conservative person. It's been his decision to trim many of the C.F. wood coasters much to my frustrations. Also they don't run dueling coasters one forward and one backward at his direction. If there is a "problem" with Windseeker, Monty be on it immediately. -
I wish Matt all the best!! My opinion comparing Cedar Fair parks to 6 Flags parks is very different. Cedar Fair parks always had the best ride-ops that really enjoyed their jobs. The 6 Flags park employees hated there jobs and showed it everyday. About 3 or 4 years ago, a total reversal happened. Things turned bad at most Cedar Fair parks and after bankruptcy, dramatic (positive) changes appeared at 6 Flags parks around the country that I've visited. As of this moment, I can say from my experience, 6 Flags is functioning better than Cedar Fair. If nothing else the stock prices tell the story. Maybe now that "Big Dick" is gone, Matt will make a difference. We can hope...

I like your name for the ride more than mine - Breaking Wind. -

I agree. Once the loop was removed the ride became pointless but even if you did put the loop back in the ride already has a bad rep with the GP and enthusiasts. Instead of trying to fix the ride in what I think they'll try to do it would be best to just remove it. If all the previous band-aids didn't work what makes CF think this latest band-aid is going to fix things? The possibility of doing a "New Texas Giant job" on this has been eliminated. That was shared by the FINALLY OUT GOING "Big Dick" Kinsel at the Q&A during Coastermania a few weeks ago. He said the previous owner Paramount sunk a lot of cash into that ride before Cedar Fair bought it. Then Cedar Fair spent a lot trying to make it acceptable. If I'm not mistaken he dropped a number of $20 million to have this done. His comment was if we spend $20 million, we'll put in a new ride. Who know now that Kinzel's successor has been named. -

Well, I'm sure now they've putting together some policy that states that no rides with winds in excess of 10MPH. Wouldn't you think they would've thought about this with the ride right on the water and it's name -- WINDSEEKER? That's why I call it "breaking wind," since It'll cause you to $hit yourself with the "pods" crashing into each other at 300' in the air...
