  1. I grew up in Cleveland (that explains why I'm so goofy), so Cedar Point was my home park. IMO now there is no comparison between MM and CP. I love MM much more with the number and types of rides. I feel also that the rideops are better at MM. They actually recognize that you are there, and want you to enjoy yourself. They'll actually have a conversation with you. I don't find that the case at CP the past 4 years or so. If I had a choice of going to either park (distance not with standing), I'll head to the Mountain! I've posted this many times on the Cedar Point forum, and have been ridiculed for it. I really don't care, it's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. MM has really come a long way from it's early years. I remember one of my first visits, I'm not sure if the rides were more exciting or the guests. That's when gangs were roaming the park terrorizing people. Those days are long gone, and I always enjoy myself there. For me Magic Mountain is my #1 park in the U.S.
  2. SOB was a "no good seat anywhere" ride. I totally agree! This was one painful ride - GOOD BYE... I speak from painful experience.
  3. Great idea to raise money for charity...
  4. My experience with "no pretzel trims" occurs occasionally during the evening ERT at Coastermania. Not every train get this experience. I was there this year (last Friday), and didn't get any of those rides. Several years ago I had a front seat no trim ride near midnight -- AMAZING!!!
  5. They *had* a superior wood coaster from 1964... but that disgraced in 1995. No matter how much CP fanboys say "Blue Streak is *still* a GREAT ride," it will never be this again Even with new stuff like Magnum and Raptor, Blue Streak was the sweetheart of the park I knew that ride very well; rode it every day for 2 years It's a clunking (albeit fast - clunking) typical PTC "upgrade" job today. Those stupid restraints, etc. is like being tied down in a damn coffin. With all the fame and hype of CP, I couldn't believe they didn't keep their only classic coaster. I rode it last summer for the first time in 11 years, and walked away stoic and wanted to cry. For anyone that knew the classic Blue Streak, it's a very different ride now. Just look at all that extra wood and steel supports to make up for the weight added to the trains with those stupid lap bars. To boot, the capacity is about 65% of what it used to be - but it doesn't matter because it lost its "classic" crowd years ago. Nope, still not over it. Does anyone else get sick of "same-ness"? As far as a future new woodie at CP, I would think they may eventually do something with Mean Streak after watching how the new hybrid types (Texas Giant, topper tracks, etc.) stand the test of time. The run from the 3rd drop to the midcourse brake was stellar when it first opened. But that didn't last long. I agree. B.S. is my favorite ride at the Point, even with the mods. As far as M.S. is concerned - "tare it down!!!" Cedar Fair hasn't a clue about woodies. Although at a few of their parks, they have been smart enough to install some GCI woodies. I love those...
  6. I agree! Nothing like some morning wood in the afternoon...
  7. This isn't so bad. Great Adventure in New Jersey is (and has been for sometime) $22. That's in Jersey dollars!!!
  8. Regarding my comment on the ride ops at C.P., it isn't the attitude of a few. I'm originally from Ohio, and that was my home park. I grew up with that park, so I know how good this place could be. The past 4 or 5 years it's changed dramatically for the worse! I used to say: I don't know what they fed these kids that worked there, but if we could feed it to the world it would be a better place. As I said before I was hoping for improvement with Matt O.
  9. I was at the Point yesterday and today. I'm disappointed that the rideop's attitudes still suck. I was hoping Matt O. would've seen and changed this by now. They have better music in the park, but it's too low to hear in many areas. Luminosity was just amazing! I'm going back to see it tonight. I'm all warmed up for Coastermania tomorrow...
  10. Well Leviathan isn't a wing-rider sooo... I thought it was a wing rider like Sky Rush. I guess I've got it wrong??? Yes, I'm a big B&M hyper fan, so I'm expecting to like it. I also thought I'd love Sky Rush as I said earlier. I guess it's an acquired taste that I didn't acquire while I was there for several days.
  11. One thing I noticed during the Spears / David drop there wasn't any Lex Luthor audio. That really adds to it IMO. Good job Robb.
  12. I haven't been following this thread -- sorry. There hasn't been many recent post, so I'm concerned. I wondered if anyone has ridden Leviathan and SkyRush at Hershey, how do they compare? I don't like SkyRush with it's Intamin QDC (quick direction changes). I'm not a fan of that (Maverick, I305), and found SkyRush rough after riding it 10 times over several days. I tried to like it, but it's just not for me. I'm planning to make a trip to Canada in late August to visit the park (my first time) and compare the rides. Right now I'm really a B&M fan over Intamin new rides. That's why I'm hoping this wing-rider will be better. Also any good (reasonable) hotels nearby? I plan on making it a several day visit. Thnx.
  13. I heard the concert last night was delayed at least 90 minutes in that heat. That had to be quite uncomfortable for all (including management). It wasn't their fault so I heard. The performer's luggage was delayed (no guitar), so that makes it tough to perform. Was anyone there last night, as what was it like???? I did enjoy the lip sync video done by the staff.
  14. I don't know if it's just me, but Supreme Scream and knotts doesn't give the same drop ride 'feeling' as other drop rides, such as the old Freefall ride. It feels more like a rapid descent than an actual zero-gravity freefall. Maybe it's just me and I'm crazy. Which drop is more intense... the S&S compressed air drop or the literal freefall intamin gives? Does Lex Luthor five that true dropping feeling? The lose-your-stomach-cant-breathe-all-the-way-down feeling? It was broken about 15 minutes. There were about 20 people in front of me in the SR line. The queue is air conditioned, but not very well. I was still really hot in there because of all the people. As for the ride... Yes it does give you that feeling in your stomach. And on my third ride, I was lucky enough to get synced with Superman (which was running great by the way) and wow does that tower shake! It wasn't swaying too much but the vibrations were intense! It made the ride so much better! The spiel at the top was all in sync today and there were no problems. When the ride broke, it was because the catch car would get stuck at the top of the tower after the ride dropped. Maintenance was on hand and all was fixed nice and quick. The operations were really good too! What fascinated me though is once the ride was clear to launch, the ride operators had a key and a lock to the gates that riders used to enter and exit. Every time the ride would cycle, they locked the gates with the lock and key. Wonder why they had to do this. I must say the scariest part in my opinion of the ride was when you are about half way up the tower and the brakes end and the ride speeds up as it climbs. The drop was really fun and I had my hands up by the third ride. It is a great ride and the they kept the line moving relatively fast. The ride is on the Flash Pass, but Platinum only (not sure about an upcharge). The line is 1 hour to the door of the queue building. The queue works like this: you wait through the switchbacks inside and then they have an employee stopping the line at the end of the switchbacks. This is where Flash Passers are let in (they come in through a door just to the left of the slingshot game). Then a long hallway is left open and the line backs up again right at the door to go outside. When you are in the inside queue, you can't really hear Superman at all. When you are outside, it isn't too annoying. After the line goes outside, you will come to a junction. This is where a ride op will put you in row 1 or 2 (for each side). This is where the groups of 8 are made. If when all the people that go back do not add up to 8, single riders will be placed in one of the 2 lines. Then there is a 2 car wait from there. Since everybody is already in groups of 8, the ride loads really quickly. This was all really thought out and designed very well. I saw Neal, Tim, and even the Ice Queen out at Lex. Tim and Bonnie were just there in the morning, and Neal was there all day. Also, if it makes anyone feel any better, in my opinion the ride looks a lot taller from the ground than it does when you are at the top. It is a great ride and totally worth it. It's not one of my favorites, but it easily makes my top 10 rides at the park. Again, feel free to ask any questions. Edit: And the harnesses felt perfect! No pain whatsoever, and you did have a lot of freedom! You wouldnt have even known that The bars that went over your shoulder were there unless you were holding onto them. Sounds great! I can't wait to get back to Magic Mountain. From other reports it also sounds very re-rideable which is important to me. Sound like the queue line is organized well, and a little a/c won't hurt either. I'm always a single rider, so I'm looking forward to that. A shaking tower at 385' - OMG!
  15. Well, less than a week now until Coastermania! I can't wait. I miss the spinning wiener on the live webcam.
  16. Very strange, the initial drop was very slow. They launched Superman, blew off fireworks at the top and LLDOD came down very slowly. That's not right????
  17. How appropriate, the LA Kings Ice Crew and the official ICE QUEEN...
  18. The music that they are playing actually sounds decent...although it will go back to Nicki Minaj after tomorrow sadly. Good quality so far. This music is putting me into a trance... Bring on Bonnie...
  19. The feed is up for the video cast right now. I'll be looking for the "ice queen."
  20. Hey hey, less than 2 weeks until Coastermania! That's one of the few things remaining at the Point that I still like. Anyone else pumped???
  21. I'm not sure if you ever saw the previous president - Jay Thomas interact with his guests. He always had a smile on his face and always said hello. More often than not, it was a lot more than just hello. He liked the G.P. IMO the same cannot be said about Bonnie. I do miss Jay not being there.
  22. Finally a new coaster show. These used to come out every year around Memorial day. I've missed that. Rob is going to be a TV star -- my hero. Seriously, I've already got my DVR set.
  23. You would be able to go back to before the Ice Queen was in power. From your key strokes to God's ears...
