Lucas Arts developing theme park game
kenshinmac replied to TheGreatOne's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Can we get linktified? I would like to see the info for myself... This sounds really cool I just hope that Frontier can pull off a little better framerate than RCT3 had... -
NL 1.6 Screenshots
kenshinmac replied to hyyyper's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I think I might finally break down and buy NoLimits... 1.6 looks amazing... So probably when it comes out you can all look forward to my craptacular creations... BTW does the whole DX9 features mean that this release won't be targeted at macs? I know there was some speculation that Mac support would be dropped but I didn't really hear anything concrete. -
Well personally if I had one park it would probably be Cedar Point... It is amazing in a great location and has a lot to do... There are also a few other parks in the area which wouldn't be too bad to get to. Of course then there is Holiday World's Voyage... Man that looks amazing... Of course there is also the Dells which I have been told has tons of stuff including Mt Olympus and other coasters and waterparks. Could be a good location too... Well then there is Florida... Hmm... I'm not much help...

"Tower of Terror" concept
kenshinmac replied to Cerberus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You know it could be possible to have two elevators in the shaft if it simply used a system similar to CAs to take it out and in. Then you shuffle the unloaded car up while the other one is on its way down... It would work but it would mean a bit more testing and coordination. I don't think it would quite be a Tower of Terror if there was no horizontal movement at all... I mean how cool would it be if the car drew back in kinda the same way that the Haunted Mansion elevator expands vertically... Just kinda warping and distorting instead of just being just lowered down... -

Um what you failed to notice is the ride goes uphill to the mid-course... The whole rest of the ride is down the hill. It will make it easily... Didn't you wonder why the hills shrunk in size before growing again? -
You know what I don't get... Doesn't Disney effectively own most of the Kingdom Hearts franchise that is made in conjunction with Square? Wouldn't a ride and possibly a CG series make a heck of a lot of sense? I mean the models are made already by Square and with some refinements would largely work perfectly. I would also think you could make a really fun ride based on some of the sequences using some of the motion rides or that Vekoma (hey Disneys ones are usually good) Pandora's Box prototype. I mean the games are popular (top seller in March with 1 week or sales right?) and it seems like a weekly CG series could make it huge along with some climactic battles in movie releases... (Sorry I'm a bit of a Square Fan... So its kinda a dream for me...) Oh yeah back on topic... Um I guess I have no real problems with Disney remaking rides but they really do need some new ones... I just can't think of any Disney ride that excited me near as much as ToT in Florida and Indy in Cali and those have been around for a decade... Hopefully the new management will be a little more open to spend money to create new experiences that don't necessarily tie in with the latest Disney movie release.

LOD Levels... It stands for Level of Detail. Basically it adjusts where the high detail models disappear and where 2d placeholders are put in and finally when an item disappears entirely. Tweaking those settings can allow you a few precious extra FPS in a slower computer. I know I use it a lot on larger parks.

Busch Gardens Tampa Trip 2006!

Um headaches aren't something that should happen commonly from riding coasters... Either you aren't supporting your head properly or you might not be drinking enough. Make sure you drink plenty of water at any park especially when it is warm. Just remember that when you start to feel thirsty you are already getting dehydrated. If a park doesn't have many water fountains just ask at almost any food or drink booth and they will give you a cup. I can tell you that getting a bit to dehydrated can result in some seriously bad times at parks. Oh and be very careful with soda on a hot day because it will flush more water out of your system than it will replace because of the caffeine. I know getting a lecture is lame and all but almost no one should get headaches just from riding coasters. Glad you had fun but enjoy your day carefully. You don't want to be dragged off to the first aid tent. -

Cyclic redundancy error.
kenshinmac replied to DarkStitch626's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Honestly I have to agree that it is a disk error... I'm not sure if it is the CD or your hard drive though... I've never seen that error. I would try going back to the store you bought it and see if they will exchange it. Otherwise call the support number for the game. -
The Two Giovanola Brothers Question
kenshinmac replied to sfgoliath's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only time I hit Titan was on a hot humid day and damn that extra helix hurt... It was just uncomfortable all around. Not really bumpy but it just seemed a little too forceful for too long... I've never really felt that way before. Hell I was having fun when I was getting tunnel vision on PGAs Top Gun on a hot day... It scared the crap out of me but I still had fun. -

Ok wow... I don't really know how to react to that... Personally I like the front of the train on Twister 2 and I think you actually get some better air at the front going up some hills (crazy I know but I am serious). I also find Flying Coaster not that bad. I think if you put yourself in loose and just hold on it is fine. I have never been hurting on it except when I pressed my shoulders into the pads at the top. Not my favorite ride but certainly not as bad as most make it out to be. Half-Pipe... I can't even understand that. I have only ever had one bad ride on it ever. Usually it is an absolute blast and I have never really had problems with the Intamin restraints... Vekomas sure but never Intamin ones. Maybe I just sit further back in the seat or maybe due to my height they can't push them down as much... Dunno... -
OMG that rocked... I can't believe how much that rocked... Even the music rocked... Well until it got repetitive... Oh man why can't american parks create crazy weird stuff like that? Mr. Six (RIP ) was about as close as we have ever come...

RCT3 HELP
kenshinmac replied to TheMan's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I believe sandbox starts at the max size possible. Custom supports can be downloaded but I don't really know where. Just keep in mind that it breaks the park for anyone who doesn't have those pieces. RCT3 vanilla doesn't allow tunnels but if you have either of the expansions (Soaked! or Wild!) you can build tunnels for your rides. DejaVu can be built with a vertical shuttle coaster. You're welcome... -
Honestly it doesn't matter that it isn't doing anything more advanced than FPSs. It is doing TONS more than almost any FPS ever does. How many enemies do you have on any one screen in an FPS? Usually tops out around 10-15 and that is typically pretty chuggy with high detail and the like. Well RCT3 is trying to model hundreds to thousands of little people while also doing calculations of the paths of tons of rides and attractions. While doing that it has to remain responsive to what you are doing with the GUI and stay semi attractive. Seriously why is it that people always try to compare the performance of FPSs with everything else? FPSs don't have to do much thinking at all. They get to put almost all the power of the computer into generating those graphics. Of course an FPS is going to look better...
-
Ok first off... There is no way anyone can tell how realistic RCT2 is because well honestly we can't really imagine our world in 2d with any degree of realism. The heights and such are really just faked to start with. Also RCT2 uses a ton of shortcuts that were present in RCT1 to simplify calculations... RCT3 isn't realistic but it does do a lot more to make things more realistic. Oh and to the person saying that RCT2s tracks are perfect curves... Well when you can use an almost infinite number of polygons you can do that... RCT3 has to render in real time so they have to make compromises on the detail of the objects in the world...

Windjammer POV Video - Knott's Berry Farm
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah after all that I have heard about it that was kinda anti-climatic... I was expecting something that looked like it would crush your skull. I mean that just looked like turns without enough banking and maybe upstop wheels that were a little too far from the track... Maybe I'm interpreting things wrong but it didn't seem too bad. Oh and the sounds kinda seemed more like the car skipping instead of running on the track... Not ideal but hardly deadly... Anyway to see the yellow track as it kinda looked more extreme? -
Just was there a few weeks ago. Well worth getting the $24 all day pass. You can make it worth buying very quickly. It also is one of the less expensive options for entertainment. I mean consider that Manhattan Express( = American TOGO) is $12.50 for the first ride... Suddenly Adventuredome looks like a great deal. BTW has anyone else been on the Chaos there? What is the deal with the recording for the ride? Wasn't there a month or so where they changed the theme of the Adventuredome website and stuff? Was this from that period? It just didn't fit at all... Oh and sadly the Chaos wasn't that good IMHO...
