Millenium Force out of Operation?
Jon Sabo replied to JulieWent's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if another thread was started or not, but I wonder if it's not (entirely) CP fault. I think that Intamin (ducking now from the Intamin fans) produced a product that was not entirely tested (longevity) and perhaps the "growing pains" are becoming more of a maintenance nightmare now. When MF and TTD was built, no one has ever attempted these heights/speeds and perhaps there is no way to find out about the long-term maintenance (and related operational issues) until a/the product is actually built. I think the mfg. has learned ALOT from TTD and incorporated some of the design changes into KK@ GA, but it appears that is having some issues as well. Whether they are both (TTD/KK) are related or not is another discussion, but in today's market, competition to build more advanced rides (higher, faster, longer, etc.) is what the public is craving for and themeparks are increasing the demands on mfg to come up with unique ride elements to satisfy those cravings and increase the turnstile count. I'm not defending CP in anyway, but I believe that their engineering staff/maintenance operations is working quite a bit of overtime to get these issues resolved. The pressure is there for sure (from management). I can only speak from my experiences from BGE/BGA because we collected massive overtime if there were issues regarding a ride(s). And we needed to resolve them in a timely BUT SAFE manner and the record generally spoke for itself (because of reputation). ^But, you DO have a valid point and heard that same issue from others (about CP) as well. -

Sorry for the double post, but there may be mis-information stated on the PR@Kennywood. The proposed reason for the 1 train operation now is possibly due to a lift motor error/malfunctioning e-stop error and perhaps 2 train operation is causing the lift to keep shutting down. Maybe a brake issue is part of it also, but the report changes daily now it seems. Anyone from/around the park can confirm that (1 train operation on Phantom's Revenge)? Maybe its not related to the Valleyfair incident, but I would assume that ride (PR) would be inspected if the mfg. is related. -

I think the ride capacity was stated around 1100-1200pph. I'll provide more info when I can confirm that..lol -

Whooo nice arial views!~~ I would like to make a comment about the pic on p. 52 (second pic down). I would agree with NEOVORTEX comment in that the view on the ride side of the pic would appear to indicate the station area (as well as the transfer track system) would be located in this area. It appears the amount of pre-footers and the construction of new ones would indicate some additional supports within that specific area. Now, with that said, here are a couple of other ideas to float around (I appologize in advanced if it has been mentioned before either by someone else or myself). I still think it could be an aqua-trax coaster, but now I have ideas (and from other discussions in other forums) that CP may attempt 4! things. 1. Have the MOST inversions in the world. 2. Have the LONGEST coaster in the world (SD2K has that title correct?). 3. Have a COMBINATION of a lift hill & a launched section. 4. A splashdown finale near the end of the ride (assuming that the current trough area is not covered up with landfill. If the splashdown area is a possibility, look for a trough section/concrete to start looking like something similar to Sheikra's (BGA). -

There was a report floating around that there was an issue with the cable system or pulley on the ride and another person was stating that they were about to ride the MF and there was a loud noise around the cable pulley and maybe that was the reason for the ride being stuck on the lift the other day. (The report was from another site and yet another site stating nearly the same thing, so I am not sure if it is accurate or note, but all of the reports stated something in relation to the pulley or cable system). -

I think I found the Amusement Today issue describing the ride from an IAAPA report. My scanner is down and cannot post any pics. Does anyone else subscribe to the newsletter and post pics? I still haven't found the article/link from Amusement Business regarding an in-depth coverage on the ride possibilities and so on. I thought I save the article somewhere, but it may be on my other computer. I think it also explained how the coaster-assembly (robo-arm) was energized. I'll still keep looking..lol -
Hey, GREAT photos! My only suggestion was to ask the Swedish babes to see if they could "supply you with a credit-if ya know what I mean" lol Anyway, sorry that the rides were closed. You should have went to Trump Tower and ask "The Donald" if he could validate your cab fare and ask to be his next apprentice..lol On a curiosity note, wasn't the Cyclone closed because of an maintenance issue or someone got injured from a mechanical failure or something? I thought the report was posted on CNN a couple of weeks ago. Can anyone confirm this either way? (Nice pics again!)

Any updates on other Morgan coasters being down (for inspection or possible upgrades)? I've heard Phantom's Revenge has been running one train, but that was due to issues with their magnetic braking system. But, I'm wondering if they are having any inspections on their bracket-system also. -

I also would like to know if they can find Jimmy Hoffa's body..lol I haven't seen it yet from the photo's, but 'ASSUMING' an aqua-trax coaster is being built, I would probably start looking for the foundation (splashdown area?) to be popping up soon. -
Non-ride related death at Holiday World
Jon Sabo replied to rollermonkey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sad day for H-W and the employees of the park as it lost one if its own members. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Was the father working the same time of the incident? It's sad that it happened during the holiday time as well. I have personally witnessed and been present for several non-related deaths at BGE (heart attacks, heat strokes, etc) and it really puts things into perspective how short life can be at times as well as dealing with the aftermath of an event like this. It really is difficult to loose a guest or an employee at a place designed to have family fun and forget our troubles (even for a day) and experience an event like this. I'm quite sure the high-class of the Koch family will take care of them for sure as in the past. -

I believe there was a report on this ride at one of the IAAPA shows and the Amusement Business article (report). I'm trying to look for the link on the A-B site, but it appears difficult now that the site and A-B are going out of business after 112 yrs. There was also an article on it from Amusement Today, but I haven't found the specific date/issue as of yet. I believe the ride is powered by a battery pack mounted on the rear portion of the chassis and somehow re-energized by the wheels as it moves along the track. From the ride point of view, I think I seen it enclosed in a dark-ride format (similar to DK @ BGE & Spiderman @ IOA) and the ride goes through various scenes and the robot arm motion goes up and down as it transverses the track. It sounds rather boring, but I believe the special effects and the motion of the arm provides limitless possibilities in movement/motion to create an interesting sensation similar to a motion simulator on a r-c track. I'll post the A-B link as soon as I can find the report. Anyone in Europe can confirm the ride was supposed to be going into a park in England in '08? -
Ummm, yes. Is there someone here who can take my order for some Lentil soup and a side order of cornbread (preferably non-radioactive)?

Mid-June has been projected for a soft opening for the Suess Trolley Ride (around the 17th or 18th I think). DD looks ALOT better with its new paint job. -

Nice pics! The reason why operators are looking inside those tarps on BBW is they are inspecting the "bags" for any excessive grease or any misc. parts (rollback dog c-clips, which can break often). Maintenance (if they still perform the daily routine), often checks the backs as well. Especially inspecting those typical Arrow-made chain dogs to look for cracks/broken teflon coating on the "teeth" part of the dog. Nessie has the same type of chain dog and we have to replace those often (average of about 3 a month or more). The reason why I know this is because I was a ride op there in 84 when it opened and that was my first ride when I was working maintenance. Grease coming from the chain lift(s) and also grease coming from any of the upper components of the wheel carrier assemblie(s) and/or misc. debris that can collect. One time there was a dead bird in the bag..lol Can't wait to go back this June and ride DK. I miss working at the park actually..lol -

One thing I think it really cool is the headlights on the IJ (at nite) working. Do any of the other IJ clones have working headlights or just PKI? I haven't been there in about 8+ yrs now. I'll be going in early June (BGE-aslo). I HATE the Shockwave paint job, it looks like a candy-cane fairy-ride now. Love the Anaconda paint job! I remember when it was being built, it was ALL green. NICE PICS! -
