  1. The passengers "sitting" on the ride were waiting for some goodies shipped over from KBF in Cali! Whooo fried chicken
  2. Ask this person..lol I can't find any link or support to the claim that anyone was taken to the hospital. At the time of the incident, it was reported that no injuries occured by 6F media department.
  3. What a wondeful way to (possibly) get frostbite. Riding a coaster in the snow (Japan)...lol I seen a video (I believe one of Robb's) where they were riding a coaster in Japan and you can see the snow on the ground. That is absolutely wild. I wonder about any possible lawsuits of people throwing snowballs at the trains/guest..lol Edit: As a side note, wasn't BPB-England open during the winter? Or any of the parks like A-T, etc? Just curious.
  4. The point is, it is NOT as easy as it appears just to pull out a cable and pull the train out of a "valley" situation. It requires some planning and engineering staff/maintenance technicians to carefully plan the event. I speak from experience (BBW and another coaster from another park) that it takes ALOT of work and no way it is a day job (even on a 24hr-3shift crew). Ask the maintenance people over at 6F-MM "X"! **Some of those quotes are posted from other sites. At least be curteous enough to post a link to that site(s) so the person can have credit for his quote and/or other members can see the entire quote and they can comment on it. Even if is your own comment/work. Example: I found a quote from this author. http://www.gadv.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8413&st=1260
  5. This sounds like another person wanting some "pain and suffering" money from the park..lol I can only assume if the person had facial injuries that he/she had glasses and the force of the (failed) launch and rollback perhaps was a partial cause. I contacted Susie Story over at PKD and she was at another meeting and will return the call when she gets back. Perhaps I could get a mini-interview and post any additional comments/information on here. She is one of the niceĀ® PR spokespersons at PKD. Don't email them from the website or anything because they generally do not answer them in this instance (and they even posted a note about it on the website last year-due to floods of emails). Good pickup on the story PKDcoaster~!
  6. I also would like to acknowledge some of the comments from TIBURON's post. There were some insightful comments and perhaps others posting (same thing over and over) should take note. It provided some of the most in-depth point-of-view on almost the entire thread. Whether or not you agree with his statements is open for discussion, but have the courtesy to back up the facts with posted links to the information. Otherwise, we are just adding pages to the thread that just keep repeating the same comments over and over. It should be a forum open for discussion as an enthusiast, not to "bash" other members (or park executives) over something silly. View link p. 17: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26124&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=160 Also, it would be wise to consider that the company statements on the Six Flags website would also be of interest for some members to actually read the entire text View link: http://investors.sixflags.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=61629&p=irol-irhome **Assmuming A-B would become a player in the possible sale of any of those park(s) listed, expect a possible announcement from the A-B quarterly review coming up in July. Assuming that your a shareholder or employee. I am on the fence regarding the A-B "possible" interest in perhaps purchasing one of the parks 6F listed. http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=bud&script=2100 Being a former manager/employee of A-B and a current shareholder, I would believe that if A-B did purchase one of the parks, that they could add their unique touch to the park and quite possibly turn it into a quality theme/amusment park. The values and quality-management can greatly add to the park(s) environment and provide a positive impact within the park(s) as well as the surrounding community.
  7. I would like to make a suggestion if someone receives a report (or posts) a report about an incident and claim "who is right" or "who is wrong" then they post the link from that source. That way no one can have a 2-3 page argument on who said what. I believe it would be some courtesy for other readers to follow-up on the thread and then do not have to repeat the same question(s) and everyone gets upset on the other posters comments. So, for the record, where was the source/link about those people being sent to the hospital? I did not find any of that information on the local news media nor the website (at the time the incident occured). Also, if a train valleys like the Chiller incident, I seriously DOUBT the train can be removed in one day (unless maintenenance/engineers work around the clock in shifts with 10 people or more and providing they have all the equipment readily available on-site). Speaking from maintenance experience, it takes quite a bit of time to actually remove a complete train from the track (and it wasn't even in a straight section of track).
  8. I personally haven't ridden this one, but I would add the space shot at Las Vegas-Stratosphere tower. I believe one member posted this and suprised more haven't put that on the list; unless no one has had a chance to ride it (including me). I would expect that view must be incredible-especially at nite.
  9. Nice photo's and report. Sounds like you had a complete opposite experience from this person's TR: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26174
  10. ^Not only that, but the rumor also included that CP was "holding" the ride for GL and KBF to install the "hyper-versions" at both parks and announcements would be made on Christmas day (instead of August). Togo is now said to be the train mfg. and that B&M will do the paint-work (minus the tracking rails of course).
  11. ^^A 600Sq. ft Electrical shed..lol
  12. Bill Gates is actually a shareholder in the 6 Flags chain (as well as Fidelity Investments who has almost the majority of the shares). I will look for the link on the remaining shareholders (and ownership percentages), but the weblink is down for maintenance at the moment. To add to the quandry of posts, here is another reason for the possible sale in todays money-article: ***NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of amusement park owner Six Flags Inc. plunged in aftermarket activity Thursday, after the company said it may fail to comply to certain bank credit covenants and believes reaching its previous EBITDA forecast will be "extremely difficult." Six Flags, citing lower park attendance and rising costs, also said it is exploring strategic options for six of its properties around the country.*** Credit Link: http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?feed=AP&date=20060622&id=5818948 *Edit: The link is back online: Shareholder breakdown list: http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/invsub/ownership/ownership.asp?Symbol=SIX (Bill Gates has 2 groups under his shareholder listings).
  13. A couple of those pics above look as if they were part of the "theming"..lol A new selection on the dinner menu for Cracker Barrel *Todays Special: Pigeon with mango sauce. Cornbread, baked apples, and choice of desert and salad. $6.99!
  14. Some people may not have read the actual statement(s) from the press release/webcast call. I will post it here so some of the posters can get the gist of it. Credit link: Six Flags site http://investors.sixflags.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=61629&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=875468&highlight= While many of us would like to see the park stay, it may very well stay or it may not. No one here (or even industry analysts) can give a concrete answer based on the fact that 6F is in an "exploratory mode". *** Following a comprehensive review of the Company's assets, Six Flags, Inc. (NYSE: SIX) today announced its decision to explore potential strategic options with respect to six of its properties. **** Read closer into this statement as well: ***Although the Company cannot predict when, or if, any specific transaction will occur with respect to these properties, potential options include a sale of the parks as going concerns in a single transaction or a series of transactions, dismantling and re-utilizing certain rides and attractions and selling the underlying land for real estate development purposes, as well as other potential alternatives. The park chain is not basing their decision over a group of coaster enthusiasts (which is a minimal number compared to their actual market of attracting families). The park chain is considering their options based on the fact that: 1. MM (park) does NOT appear to appeal to the corporate strategy the park wants in attracting "family-oriented" business. The costs may be too great in rebranding the (MM) parks image. 2. Satisfy the shareholders! This is one of the primary reasons in 'potentially' selling off the parks listed in the report. This move would more than likely be designed to generate cash flow to reduce their massive debt and (if any available cash leftover) place the influx into their remaining parks (and market). The park chain can focus on the remaining properties and rebrand them into the corporate image they desire. I would add that Six Flags N.O. may also be added to the list as well (perhaps by their next proxi-meeting/report). 3. Staffing- the very nature in the comments in finding quality staff, seasonal and mid-level supervisors/management, will no doubt play a major role in their decision. Assuming that they are trying to address the issue is already an indication their is a problem within this market (MM) and labor costs, benefits, etc. are increasing every year. Can 6F (or MM) sustain that growth in tapping into quality talent/employees? And, generate a profit while catering towards families? It will be a constante uphill battle and may take several years to get to that level they desire. As far as potential suitors? I wouldn't mind A-B taking over the MM park and add to their portfolio within the CA market. Perhaps they could also increase their brand (alcohol/recycling/other ventures) name into the marketshare. If that scenario comes true, expect ALOT of changes to occur (especially landscaping/beautification and increased ride uptimes/management-quality, etc). CF-I doubt that the park chain would purchase MM (or any of the other parks listed), but stranger things have happened.
  15. Assuming that 6F does sell the park, I don't think it would be torn down. That is just an assumption, but consider the cost of removing the infrastructure and rides if a developer purchased the property. The chain could remove the ride(s) and place them in the remaining park properties, but that also could just be speculation, because nothing is final as of yet. The chain is just considering the idea (but, I hope they do sell it because that would become a good revenue boost for the future of the park chain). I believe another park chain or investor will actually purchase the park and make do with what is current and change things according to their own philosophy. There is a vendor out there (park operator/investors) that I am quite positive would be willing to step up to the plate considering the market it is located. Anyone interested in the management's philosphies and strategies you can download them off their corporate (section) website and also read about SEC filings and that could give you some hints on the direction they "appear" to be going (emphasis on satisfying their shareholders).
  16. ^^^I agree (and along with my original post/quote). I think actually selling 6F-MM is a good move. I believe there is a developer and/or themepark operator willing to pay top $$$ for the property as well as infuse some much needed cash flow into the current park chain and/or place that $sale$ against that massive debt load. I am going off the assumption on the webcast and the 6F website posting, but I really don't think that MM will appeal to the brand or image the "new" 6F management staff is trying to create in a 'family' atmosphere. It may take some time for the park to get rid of that current image at the park (MM) and management may decide it's well worth selling it rather than placing huge amount of revenue to brand it into their current philosophy. *Keep SFGAD and sell SFMM.
  17. While there is a wide-variety of coasters posted on here, I would agree with some of the repeat "offenders". 1. Hydra stands-out perhaps because of the "jo-jo roll" and the rest of the ride appeared promising, but did not deliver in most people's mind. 2. Patriot. I noticed this one posted as well, but perhaps the cost of the ride and the parks budget provided enough 'bang-for-the-buck' ride for the average guests to enjoy (similar to Hydra). 3. Silver Bullet-KBF. I noticed this ride mentioned often. I have yet to ride it and was curious on other opinions on why it was not great.?Apparently the semi-inversion before the cobra roll was the most-noted part of the ride in a positive sense. That 'inversion' looks similar to the kite-surfers doing tricks at Ho'okipa Maui http://www.hookipa.net/ or http://maui-bed-and-breakfast.com/hookipa.htm
  18. Ahh! Music to my ears!..lol http://www.pretparkgek.com/~roy/Vliegende%20Hollander.wmv *Credit from page and post(er): http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20443&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60
  19. Here is an email response from him after I question his motive to claim it was "his" video and he didn't provide a credit to the author. 20. ^ Get a picture of the braking system too! I thought someone posted they installed magnetics. I love stuff like that (don't ask why, just worked maintenance on coasters and always loved the technology and mechanical stuff).
  21. ^^Did you see the "lol" at the end? I seriously doubt CF would be interested, but stranger things have happened recently (including CF purchase of Paramount). No one really knows what the state of MM (or the listed parks) is at this point; not even 6F. It was really posted as a sarcastic way to add humor on the event. Perhaps Paramount will get back in the game and purchase MM just for kicks...."lol"
  22. here is a link to some photo's someone took. Credit link: Pnasiuk (name?). http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h143/Pnasiuk/?
  23. ^try this one: http://www.screamscape.com/ 5th item on todays news. In the article, it described the "theme' to be similar to the trains on Xcelerator @ KBF. I hope they provide a much smoother ride.
  24. Do I hear the phone ringing at 6 flags?.... "Hello?. Yes this is Cedar Faire, I am inquiring the possible purchase of one or several of your amusement parks."..lol I'm not sure if 6F will piecemeal each park or sell it as a package deal (or a combination of both). But, it may come to a point that the strategy may be one of the best options for the park chain to reduce that massive debt-load and releasing the MM property could bring in top $$ for the park chain. If I recall, didn't Robb (or someone else) post that construction was going on across the street (MM)? If that is residential land, the value of the park itself may actually (if not already) increase its value. I believe this would be a good move on 6Flags part in that MM quite possibly won't fit into the future image of a "family-park" and to re-brand the entire park may be more difficult and costly.
  25. I have to laugh at the second pic because (sorry) Elissa's hair looks like a beard..lol But, that IS some good air time, indeed! **I would add my two: 1. Apollo's "Fabio Bird-Express" Chariot. The overall experience of airtime and that last drop still gets me (even when you know its coming). 2. Loch Ness-first drop. A classic! I recall back in our ride testing days (before opening season) we used to convince the managers to ride with us. Little did they know why I was holding a cup of cold water *grin*. Well, once you go down the first drop, you turn the cup upside down and watch how long the water will stay in the cup. Well, they (managers) thought that was a cool "trick" (thanks Einstein..lol). So, on the second run I would do the same thing, but hold it just long enough to where the water would come out and get everyone in the car wet (and in the next car as well)...hehehe They didn't like that very much.
